22.01.2022 Beware of COVID -19 Cyber Crimes & Scams targeting small business and individuals. If you have changed how you do business during Covid-19 such as increasing your online presence or are now offering purchasing online and payments you will need to review your insurance and check you have Cyber cover. Your standard business policy may not cover your business or your clients if you or them suffer from any financial loss or privacy breaches as a result of their interactions wi...th your business or website. The Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) has advised of a significant increase in Australians being targeted with COVID-19 themed scams, fraud attempts and deceptive email schemes. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commissions (ACCC) Scamwatch has received over 1,100 reports about COVID-19 themed scams from individuals and businesses losing money or personal information to online frauds across Australia. These phishing campaigns are often sophisticated, with cybercriminals aligning malicious activities within days sometimes even within hours of government announcements such as relief payments or public health guidance. They prey on peoples desire for information, imitating trusted and well-known organisations or government agencies. Visiting these fake websites or clicking on malicious links may automatically install computer viruses or malware onto your device, giving cyber criminals the ability to steal your financial and personal information. For more information you can contact us [email protected] Phone Head Office 07 3292 1100 or visit our website https://cib.com.au/ For a list of all current Covid-19 scams scamwatch.gov.au For More information and guidance on securing remote working and video conferencing www.cyber.gov.au/covid-19 If youve suffered financial loss from cybercrime, report it to ReportCyber at www.cyber.gov.au/report To stay up to date on the latest online threats www.staysmartonline.gov.au/alert-service

15.01.2022 Are you ready for Storm Season? Queenslanders on the coastal regions are at risk of being hit by Cyclones & Severe Storms between November and April. Have you checked that your Insurance Polices up to date and that you are sufficiently covered???

14.01.2022 Will your insurance risk rise because of reopening your business? Additional risks may include employees contracting COVID-19 and stresses to staff caused by employers poor or ineffective management of the crisis. Given the nature and complexity of managing a workforce, employers are quickly responding to many different implications of COIVID-19, including return to workplace planning as the lockdown restrictions are gradually lifted Potential claims arising under Employme...nt Practices Liability (EPL) policies can include impacts that go beyond contracting the disease and could include breach of privacy and emotional distress. Businesses with variable risk management procedures for different teams and locations could trigger discrimination issues, while loss associated with enforced self-isolation could lead to a claim. Most EPL policies contain exclusions for loss related to bodily injury. However, there is generally coverage for claims relating to mental anguish or emotional distress alleging an EPL breach. Directors and Officers insurance is another area where the virus outbreak is increasing risks for companies. Larger corporates will need to ensure they are meeting Australian Securities Exchange continuous disclosure requirements and should be mindful of regulatory changes and governance expectations as the post COVID-19 environment will increase scrutiny placed on organisations to understand and implement any changes. For more advice or to discuss your own Employment Practices Liability Policy please contact your account manager at Consolidated Insurance or ph 07 3292 1100 or email contactus @cib.com.au See more

05.01.2022 What is an excess & why do I need to pay it ? The excess or deductible is the amount you will be required to pay when you make a claim on your policy. In other words, its the amount you agree to contribute towards the cost of a claim, with the insurer covering the remaining amount.... Some of us choose a higher excess to reduce the cost of our Insurance policy however the most important factor you will need to consider is if you need to claim Can you afford to pay the excess in full immediately? If the answer is no, we can offer you options to choose a more affordable excess and pay your insurance premium in easy to manage monthly instalments. Below are some general excess examples but we would recommend seeking clarification for your own individual claim situation: Some but not all insurance companies will consider waiving an excess on a vehicle claim if you are not at fault and on the condition, you can provide the ALL of fault parties details such as: - Full name - Address - Phone number - Licence number Other insurance companies will not waive excess even if you are not at fault however they may offer you a refund of the excess if they recover costs of the claim from the at fault party The excess is still payable in claims where you have damaged another partys property even if there is no damage to your property you will need to pay the excess prior to your insurance company settling the other party. You may become liable for additional costs such as extra damage or legal costs incurred as a result of you delaying or refusing to pay your excess. Property claims will require excess paid prior to builder undertaking repairs Vehicle claims will require excess paid once repairs are completed and prior to vehicle handover For more information on your insurance excess or paying your policy premium in monthly instalments please contact us on (07) 3292 1100

03.01.2022 If you have recently undertaken modifications to your vehicle you need to let us know so we can update your policy and make sure you are covered correctly. The owner of the Mustang had fitted an aftermarket supercharger which had not been disclosed to the insurer. This resulted in a $14,000 Claim being refused on the grounds of the owner failing to disclose a modification to the vehicle.
