16.01.2022 Some information on smoke alarm requirements in Queensland. Since January 2017, Queenslanders having a home built or substantially renovated have been required to have interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms installed. From 1 January 2022, all homes being sold, leased or having their lease renewed must have hardwired photoelectric, interconnected smoke alarms installed in every bedroom, connecting hallways and on each storey.... From 1 January 2027, this requirement will apply to all homes. As these deadlines draw near, there will be a greater demand for electrical contractors to install and upgrade ionisation smoke alarms to photoelectric smoke alarms. Make sure you and your customers are aware of your obligations by visiting Queensland Fire and Emergency Services - smoke alarms. Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is working with industry to ensure Queenslanders are aware of their obligations and don’t leave upgrading to the last minute. 15.01.2022 If your switch board is still running fuses it might be time for an upgrade. This client was issued a defect notice when their electricity provider came to change over to digital meters. The house was built in the fifties and had old rubber insulated cable for their consumer mains, which are at the end of their life cycle. This means the insulation within the cable is starting to break down. This can cause shorting, tripping, and even fire.... So if your switch board has fuses or fuse holders get a qualified electrical contractor to inspect it for you.
