23.01.2022 LIKE AN IMPOSSIBLY attractive assassin created in a Soviet bunker somewhere, the black-shouldered kite is as beautiful as it is deadly. When hunting, the black-shouldered kite will work in pairs or alone, targeting mice and other small rodents. It will ride on the wind, searching for prey, and then divebomb them at the opportune moment. Image credit: Auscape/Getty Image

13.01.2022 So, what exactly is going on in the photo of this funny stretching croc? This is a type of fishing behaviour practiced by saltwater crocodiles, where they adopt a curious cross posture by stretching out their front and back legs, pointing their toes out of the water, and opening their mouth a little, Adam explains. In this zen-like position they float around serenely, using their tail for movement and steering. Crocodile skin has thousands of pressure sensors scattered al...l over their body. These are called ‘integumentary sense organs’. If a fish near the surface swims close to the crocodile’s head, it fires off these pressure sensors along the jaws, neck and arms and the crocodile will as quick as a flash snap its head sideways to scoop up the fish in its jaws. Most of the fish that the crocodile catches in this position are quite small, but they’re nonetheless a nutritional snack. Image credit: Belinda Steindorf

06.01.2022 We got an inbox from Angela in regards to a Koala on a pine log in her back yard, Ricardo called the Sydney Wildlife (Sydney Metropolitan Wildlife Services) Koa...la rescue team to attend so Carla-maree and Renee attended the rescue. This young female was checked over and there were no signs of injuries or blood, so they released her into nearby Bushlands where she climbed to the very top of the gum tree and started eating now that’s a good sign. Our goal is to rescue and release as soon as possible to minimise stress to the koala providing no injuries of course. This was obviously just a very young female making her way and just got into trouble, nothing that couldn't be helped, and now she is where she should be out in the wild feeding and doing what Koalas do best.
