25.01.2022 Constant Reader Polly Samson Event - https://mailchi.mp/const/constant-reader-polly-samson-event

24.01.2022 Hi everyone! The PM has spoken about needing to limit our browsing time when we are doing our essential shopping - we know this is hard in a bookshop (browsing is half the fun) but we are trying to help you shop as quickly as you can! If you know what title you want why dont you give us a call, you can pay over the phone and we can have it ready and waiting for you ahead of time.... If you are isolating and cant get out let us know we can put your books in the post for you or if you live in Mosman or Crows Nest postcodes we can run them around. Currently we are open 10am-4pm.

24.01.2022 The Constant Reader is currently still open as per the government advice and we continue to ensure we keep our premises as safe as possible for all. However due to the ongoing situation we are temporarily amending our trading hours. Effective the 25th of March 2020 our hours will be Monday Sunday - 9am 5pm. If for some reason you are unable to get in to see us please give us a call so we can arrange a way to get books to you.... Thank you for your patience and understanding and we hope you all stay safe. We will continue to serve our community as best we can for as long as we can. Constant Reader.

We ask that everyone respect each other and our staff and maintain social distancing. Please keep browsing to a minimum to ensure everyone who wants to come in, can. 21.01.2022 Margaret Atwood returns to her poetic roots with a beautiful new collection, her first in over a decade. Through witty and wise observations our world, humanity and environment are spotlit with both realism and hope. In store soon and available for pre-order now.

19.01.2022 The Constant Reader continues to open to help our communities, as we can, get through this time. We are restricting our hours further and have further limited the number of customers in the shop in an effort to keep us all safe. From Monday the 30th of March 2020 we will be opening 10am - 4pm in both Crows Nest and Mosman There will be a restriction of only 5 customers in each shop at any time. ... If you know what you want why dont you give us a call ahead of time and we can have it ready and waiting for you! We ask that all customers listen to and respect the direction of our staff and maintain social distancing at all times. Thank you for your patience and support and we hope everyone stays safe!

19.01.2022 Thanks so much Serena for doing such a fun artwork for us!

18.01.2022 Happy Fathers Day!

18.01.2022 Huge congratulations to Douglas Stuart whose debut novel, Shuggie Bain, has won the Man Booker Prize 2020. Our resident Scot, Julia describes it as a tender description of a family living in the toughest of circumstances. Shuggie gets hold of your heart strings and, as with his love for his mother Agnes, doesn't let go.

18.01.2022 Our event last night with Craig Silvey was wonderful! Thanks so much to Craig and Tim Ross for taking the time to speak to us about this incredible and deeply moving book.

17.01.2022 Hi everyone, due to a national Optus outage our phones dont seem to be working. We apologise for the inconvenience and hope that all will be back online soon. While we are here, a quick update to the COVID situation. As the city opens up more and more it is important to remember that there is still risk and we are trying to manage it to keep everyone safe. We are currently allowing 10 customers in each store at any one time and are asking everyone to sanitise their hands on... the way in. Additionally we continue to only accept payment by card, we remind everyone we do not apply any credit card surcharges. This continues to be a difficult time, please respect our staff and procedures as we all try and manage expectations and keep ourselves, our customers and our communities safe. All the best everyone, stay safe and keep an eye out for further changes!

14.01.2022 Happy Mothers Day for tomorrow everyone! We are open on the weekend, but we ask that you continue to follow our social distancing measures - only five customers in each shop at any time, and mandatory hand sanitiser on entry (even if you are wearing gloves and just sanitised next door). Can we also ask that you keep your browsing to a minimum, for all our safety and so that any people waiting to come in can avoid a long wait? Please follow and respect the directions of our staff. Thanks for all your support.

13.01.2022 Winter has well and truly arrived this week, but we think that gives us a perfect reason to find a nice cosy corner and get lost in a great book! Our pick this week is The Spill by debut author Imbi Neeme - Writer. Anna is really enjoying reading Australian fiction at the moment and she really loved this book. She says: "A woman crashes her car with her two daughters in the back seat. There are no fatalities, but the ripples caused by the incident will not fade away. Thirty... years later, the sisters have just buried their mother and are trying to reconcile their wildly different memories of the crash and what came after. This is a story of tumultuous family relationships, especially that of the two sisters. The snapshots we see of their lives, always under the shadow of the crash, are poignant and illuminating. Nicole and Samantha are both deeply flawed characters, but by the end of the book I loved them both. Their relationship is incredibly fraught, but they never give up on each other. This was a story that has really stayed with me, and the more I thought about it the more I loved it. I am always drawn to stories about sisters and their shared history. I absolutely devoured this book and enjoyed every page of it!" Penguin Books Australia See more

13.01.2022 The excitement that comes with opening boxes of new releases never gets old, especially not with a new Kate Grenville to unpack! Her first book in many years, A Room Made of Leaves explores the life of Elizabeth Macarthur in the early years of the Sydney colony. Historical fiction with a twist, this novel tackles the place of women in society and the seductive appeal of false narratives. Pick up a copy in store now! Text Publishing

09.01.2022 Is June too early in the year to declare your book of the year? Anna doesnt think so! She has just read The Inland Sea by Madeleine Watts and its definitely her favourite book of the year (so far). Claire and Melissa are also huge fans - all three found it an incredibly powerful read that resonated deeply and really got to the heart of modern Australian life. We are very excited about this book, and cant wait to share it with you! Click through to read Annas review on our website. Pushkin Press

08.01.2022 With Fathers Day just around the corner we would like to take a moment to recommend our new favourite espionage thriller - The Sandpit by Nicholas Shakespeare. Julia read it and absolutely loved it: "I bought this for my husband but couldnt resist nabbing it first and gosh I am very pleased I did! Shakespeare has woven a proper old-school style story of espionage and power games centred around a scientific breakthrough which promises untold wealth and domination to who...mever gets their hands on it. John Dyer however, into whose hands the secret is thrust, is utterly ill-prepared for the violence and desperation the discovery has engendered in his fellow parents at the Oxford prep school at which his son has just started. Pursued by baddies including a ruthless hedge fund manager, a bellicose Russian with a flirty wife and a determined but increasingly frantic diplomat, Dyer relies on his instincts and remains immune to the greed driving the quest for ownership of science in order to keep himself and his son safe. Juxtaposing historic Oxford with the world of espionage works supremely as the gripping story unfolds, heart in mouth, until the surprising but utterly right denouement." See more

07.01.2022 Congratulations to all the authors on the Miles Franklin longlist this year!

07.01.2022 What could be better on a cold and gloomy weekend than curling up somewhere warm with a good book? We certainly cant think of anything nicer! We recommend Lionel Shrivers new novel, The Motion of the Body Through Space, a darkly humorous social satire. Kit says: "I will start off by admitting that this was my first Lionel Shriver, and that this was not the type of book I would ordinarily read, but by god I am glad that I did! This is what I call a good book. The Motion o...f the Body Through Space was highly enjoyable; a superbly written and darkly hilarious literary feast. This was a book where I simultaneously savoured each page but also one where I found myself not wanting to put it down! I was sceptical that black humour could work with a literary writing style, but Shriver impressed me. Not only was it filled with sardonic humour that had me chuckling consistently, but the sheer quality of the writing itself made me exceedingly happy. The lead character, Serenata perfectly embodied the style and tone of Shrivers writing as an intelligent, mordant, acerbic wit who perfectly satirises the fitness industry and contemporary American society."
