11.01.2022 This serving tray along with a few other items was sent to me by Kristi in Canberra for repairs. On first inspection i thought i could straighten it out but............ yeah nah it wasn't going to happen so i took it upon myself to remake it. After carefully prising of the individual pieces and cleaning them up i made a new base from New Guinea Rosewood, a very stable timber. Any woodworker knows that if you glue something to one side of a board you have to do the same to the other so it doesn't cup, which is what happened to the original base so a Queensland Maple .5mm veneer was added to the underside. Once oiled the fiddleback Blackwood really came to life and the Silver work once polished sets the finished tray off. Constantia Red Oil was used as a base coat to bring out the colour and then three light coats of Constantia Chinese wood oil was applied to give a silky smooth sheen. #constantiaorganicfinishes

11.01.2022 Three orders went out last Friday, First was a job box in Blackwood birds eye box for a Melbourne jeweller. The job box is to store envelopes that hold the clie...nts jewellery, gems etc before fabrication starts. The second 4 sided only box in American Oak is a knock box for a Melbourne barista. He will insert a stainless steel box within to hold spent Coffeys grinds. The American Oak was specified to match the other coffee machine accessories. The third in WA Sheoak is off to Salisbury SA for a wedding present. All of these items finished silky smooth and smelling a treat with Constantia Organic Finishes #constantiaorganicfinishes

We are very pleased with how it came up (and amazed at what a difference even the first coat of wood oil made) and it functions perfectly as the envisaged vintage stereo cabinet. Thanks again.' 03.01.2022 In any small business you have to always be looking at ways to hone your processes, do things different, do thing better and try to cut costs and for my little ...manufacturing business it is critical so it is with these point in mind that i have decided to change brands of finishing oils and waxes and am now using Constantia products. The Red Oil is a colour enhancer and brings out the colour in timber. The Chinese wood oil is a general purpose interior exterior oil and is a little thicker than what i have been using so it lasts longer and the turn around time between coats is shorter. And the Lincoln furniture wax is made to be compatible with the oils. And the best thing is they smell divine and not overpowering like the product i was using. The Red Oil was applied to the R/H sample in the photo. It's hard to tell by the photo but there is a subtle difference.

02.01.2022 Last month i sent an order off to Victor in Spain for a Silky Oak and New Guinea Rosewood box and this morning received a lovely message stating how delighted h...e was with the timber choice, design and make of the box and he immediately organised to purchase a Blackwood Birds Eye piece from my shop, and then to top it off also ordered a custom Camphor Laurel box of my design choice, the only requested had was for a lift out tray......... easy. As i had mentioned in a previous post Victor is a box collector and i must say that i feel privileged and a little humbled after seeing some of his collection which are high quality examples of marquetry inlay from some of Europes finest makers.
