22.01.2022 Care and the Consumer Law Centre are deeply concerned about the Government’s announcement last week of plans to axe Australia’s responsible lending protections for consumers. Our responsible lending laws are there to protect people from being sold unaffordable loans, saddling them with debt they will never be able to escape. These changes are designed to remove some of the burden on banks to ensure people are not sold unaffordable loans, including reducing the amount of ver...ification information customers are required to provide in order to secure loans. As the economic toll of COVID-19 hits our community, strong responsible lending protections are more, not less, important https://www.abc.net.au//government-looks-to-relax/12700136
