24.01.2022 The young stallion Wimborne Confederate (Contenda x Stedinger) and Jane Wilcox during a relaxed training session this week. Thank you very much to Noni Boon for letting us visit your beautiful property and use your jump paddock.
23.01.2022 Contenda's first foal for this season out of a Gymnastic Star/ Graf Landau mare, owned and bred by Jay Brandon and Carley Brand is now 2.5 months old. This is the perfect time to take photos of your youngsters as their body shape is essentially what it will be when they are an adult horse. It is a good to keep this photo as a reminder of what they will be when they are going through their awkward stages of growth on the way to maturity.

17.01.2022 FLASHBACK FRIDAY: This photo is where it all began. It was love at first sight when I saw this photo of the then 2 year old "Caspar". I was sitting on a plane flying to Germany on my way to the famous Verden Horse Auction flicking through "Pferdemarkt" ( Germany's version of Horsedeals) when I came across his photo - I instantly dog eared the page. I then went back to the start of the magazine and checked out methodically everyhorse that was available for sale - one by one - ...eventually I got up to a page where I saw a horse that really appealed to me again and I went to dog ear this page only to find that it was the page I had dog eared already. Really excited about this horse , I contacted the vendor as soon as I landed in Germany and took a detour to Cuxhafen to meet "Caspar" in the flesh . Again it was love at first sight - I could not swipe the smile off my face as I inspected him! However , I had the auction to attend that night and did not want to make any commitments before seeing all the other horses I had flown to Germany to see so off I continued to the Verden Auction. There were lots of beautiful horses at the auction but as each one was presented to the crowd I could not stop thinking about "Caspar". The very next morning I went to back to see "Caspar" a second time and by later that day I was shaking hands with Herr Tamm to purchase my dream horse! See more

11.01.2022 FLASHBACK FRIDAY: Today I write about one of the hardest days we have had face with Contenda - the day we decided to retire him from high level competitve eventing. Contenda had a prolifically successful eventing competition career that regularly saw him take home the winners rug. After winning or placing in all his 2* ( now 3*) starts he was ready to step up to 3* ( now 4*) when we received the bad news that the cartilage tear he had sustained to his stifle during an event...ing training session had now caused significant arthritic and degenerative changes in his joint and that if we continued to compete him in high level eventing that we risked catastrophic injury. At the same time as this news came, one of the Australian Olympic selectors had asked Shane what the plan was for Contenda leading up to the next Olympics. Devastated as I was by the loss of Contenda's competitive career and any dreams of Olympic representation for him, the decision was always clear that we had to do the right thing first and foremost by Contenda - so the decision was made to retire him immediately from competition. With my disappointment plain to see, Shane consoled me when I shared the news with him of Contenda's retirement that Contenda had many great progeny and it may well be one of them one day that fulfills my dream of Olympic representation. Since his retirement Contenda has stood at stud and produced many, many wonderful offspring that have been prolifically successful in every one of the Olympic disciplines and I am aware of several of his progeny that do have their eyes firmly on Olympic representation one day - some of them in the not too distant future. For keeping Contenda breeding sound and able to continue to stand at stud this season and produce even more Olympic hopefuls, I would like to thank the amazing anti arthritic effects of both Pentosan Gold and Halo made by Ceva pharmaceuticals. Thank you to the amazing benefits of these medications we are still able to accept your special mare to Contenda for this stud season. Please message us if you would like to book your mare to this once in a generation stallion.
10.01.2022 Riding a horse that is purpose bred to jump makes life so much easier! Here is the 4 year old Wimborne Classic ( Contenda x Escudo 1) showing us exactly what he was bred to do after only a handful of sessions jumping under saddle.

10.01.2022 87% - WOW - What a score! Our young stallion prospect, Wimborne Courageous ( Contenda x Vivaldi) and Grace Kay in only their second outing, were outstanding over the weekend to win the 4yo Young Dressage Horse class at Taree with a score of 87%. ( 8.7 for trot, 8.5 for walk and canter and 9 for perspective). The pair also competed in their first ever Preliminary test to score 71.07% for a very close 2nd place that had the 2 judges split as to who the highest placed horse would be. After such a fabulous start in the dressage arena the pair will now concentrate some more on their jumping in preparation for their showjumping and eventing debuts in the near future.

04.01.2022 Quirinidi Event was always a favourite of Contenda's - in fact it was the first event he ever attended and the event where he received his first ever winners rug! I can fully understand and sympathise with everybody's disappointment that Quirindi's event this weekend has had to be cancelled due to the new Covid restrictions. Hang in there everyone - together we can all beat this virus! Hopefully very soon we can all get back to the events and competitions we love so much in a safe and healthy way.
