21.01.2022 This was on the Sylvia Loch Classical Dressage facebook page. My students no doubt recognise the sentiment! PS can recommend the Classical Seat book. It's what made me go to Portugal Sylvia: I wonder how many teachers ask their students to practise ‘letting go’ with their legs? This is such a good exercise before riding forward or even halfway through a lesson. It certainly confirms the feel of their seatbones front and back and promotes good posture. I have a whole file ...of cuttings from way back in 1988 when my Classical Seat book was published. You wouldn’t believe the furore When I mentioned the 3 point seat was made up of the contact made by 2 seat bones and crotch, the argument went all the way to Horse & Hound and an old crusty colonel insisted it was impossible...!!! Since all the Spanish Riding School and Portuguese School Riders etc etc ride in the 3 point seat, I never quite understood the problem. It is not difficult to adopt if one sits up and removes ones feet from the stirrups. The main protagonists appeared to ride in the chair seat which is hard on the back of both horse and human and should never be promoted, although sadly we still see this on show grounds where riders waiting for their class use their horse as a convenient armchair. I should add that I still have a few copies of my paperback - The Classical Seat book (signed) - for sale. 15.01.2022 Pretty sad about our moonscape. Trying to find other places for a few horses to live. Peter meter reading then the two of us will be weanling handling for a few months. Hopefully by June the place won't look like death and we can accept some client horses. Stay hydrated everyone!
