24.01.2022 If you are a small business struggling with record keeping, I can help. I have experience using MYOB and Xero. Keeping records is an essential part of maintaining any small business as it helps you manage your cash flow and the day-to-day running of your business. As an employer, it's important for you to know the additional records you must keep to help meet your tax and super obligations. When it comes to your employees, you need to keep records for: payments of salary and... wages super contributions choice of super fund pay as you go (PAYG) withholding fringe benefits provided. The introduction of Single Touch Payroll doesn't change your record-keeping obligations, but it may help reduce the amount of records you need to keep (for example, copies of payment summaries). Remember, your registered tax agent or BAS agent can help you manage your employment and payroll records. https://www.ato.gov.au//Be-a-record-breaking-record-keeper/ See more
22.01.2022 June has arrived and now is a good time to check you have kept records for the year to assist with preparation of your End of Financial Year tax obligations. These five record-keeping rules apply to most records your business is required to keep to meet your tax, super and employer obligations. These are based on law and ATO view: for full details see https://www.ato.gov.au//detailed-business-record-keeping-/.... 1. You need to keep all records related to starting, running, changing, and selling or closing your business that are relevant to your tax and super affairs. If your expenses relate to business use and personal use, make sure you have clear documents to show the business portion. 2. The relevant information in your records must not be changed and must be stored in a way that protects the information from being changed or the record from being damaged. 3. You need to keep most records for five years. 4. You need to be able to show the ATO your records if they ask for them. 5. Your records must be in English or able to be easily converted to English. If you aren't sure how this information applies to your situation, ask your registered tax or BAS agent.
20.01.2022 So now I have successfully completed a Xero advisor certification program. I can assist you in Xero - from setting up, to bank reconciliation right through to reporting.
19.01.2022 Working from home certainly has it challenges but also has positive aspects as well. If you have been working from home due to the Covid19 pandemic or you run your business from home you can claim home office expenses in your income tax return. You can claim a deduction for expenses related to earning your assessable income. But to claim what you’re entitled to, remember the three golden rules: 1. The expense must have been for your business not for private use.... 2. If an expense is for business and private use, you can only claim the portion used for your business (this is also known as apportioning an expense). 3. You must have records to prove the expense, and if it's a mix of business and private use show how you worked out the business portion. For full details check out the ATO website https://www.ato.gov.au/Individuals/Income-and-deductions/ Remember, registered tax agents can help you with your tax.
18.01.2022 So, we are nearly at the end of the first quarter for this financial year. Just as a reminder that if you haven’t already done so, you need to be using Single Touch Payroll (STP) reporting for your employees by 30th September 2019. If you are not STP ready yet, you can either go to https://www.ato.gov.au//Low-cost-Single-Touch-Payroll-sol/ for help finding a software solution that suits your needs. Or talk to your tax or BAS agent for reporting options available. Or you can apply for more time if you can’t start reporting by 30th September at https://www.ato.gov.au//Single-T/Need-more-time/Deferrals/.
13.01.2022 Just a reminder that Single Touch Payroll (STP) is now a requirement for employers with 19 or less employees from 1 July 2019. This means you report your employees' tax and superannuation information to the ATO each time you pay your employees. There is a three-month transition period so you can start reporting any time from 1 July 30 September. Make sure you talk to your accountant, software provider or tax adviser early and explore your options. You can check the ATO website for simple, low cost solutions for employers with 14 employees. Further information can be found at https://www.ato.gov.au//Single/About-Single-Touch-Payroll/

10.01.2022 I hope everyone had a Merry Xmas and happy New Year. But now for most the holiday is over and it is back to work for another year! There is a change this year from the end of March. For those of you who use AUSkey or myGov to access the business portal. The are being replaced with: myGovID - the Australian Government's digital identity provider and a new way to prove your identity online. Establish your identity once and use your myGovID to access government services online. ...Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM) - a new Australian Government authorisation service that allows you to link your myGovID to your ABN and manage who can act on behalf of your business online. https://www.ato.gov.au//Use-AUSkey-or-myGov-to-access-the/ See more
09.01.2022 End of financial year is fast approaching. Make sure you are ready for tax time and EOFY obligations. Some points to keep in mind for your small business - The instant asset write-off threshold has been increased and extended, and expenses paid before 30 June such as rent, registration fees and insurance that end in the next financial year can be claimed as a deduction in this year's tax return. Check the ATO website for details or talk to your accountant. Now would be a good time, if you haven't already, to start collating your business records. Remember Single Touch Payroll obligations for all employers starts from 1 July. Check ATO website for details.
03.01.2022 So no doubt some of you employers out there are probably starting to think about a work Christmas party for your employees. Advice from the ATO Small Business Newsroom says fringe benefits tax may apply to some of these expenses. Fringe benefits tax (FBT) is payable on certain benefits you provide to your employees or their associates. These benefits are in addition to, or part of, your employees' salary or wages package. FBT is separate from income tax and is calculated o...n the taxable value of the benefits provided to employees. https://www.ato.gov.au//Do-you-provide-benefits-to-your-e/ Remember to speak to your accountant if you think this may apply to you.
03.01.2022 I now have an Advanced Certificate in Accounting to complement my knowledge and experience in bookkeeping. I can help you with your bookkeeping needs using MYOB or Xero.
