21.01.2022 Rest and Recovery/ Hi Everyone, I hope you have all had some time to rest and relax over the Christmas and New year's period. It's important to note that rest means different things to different people.... It is very important to slow down sometimes, both physically and mentally. What I have learnt over the years (mainly this year to be honest!), is that we should allocate more than 1-2 weeks rest at the end of each year. We need to allocate rest time more frequently than that. It could be a day a week for some, a week per month for others, or a few hours a day or many. I learnt this year, "to work hard, rest often." There is a lot of pressure to be successful and to be productive all of the time. There is a weird connotation that the more busy and stressed we are, the more successful. But this is incorrect. We need time to rest and recharge so we can come back mentally and physically stronger. Rest can be stepping away from the computer or phone and relaxing the brain. Rest can be shutting off social media for the day. Rest can be sitting in front of the tv watching Netflix and eating chocolate. Rest can be going for a hike or a workout. Rest can be not setting your alarm for the day. Rest can be treating yourself to some sun, a healthy smoothie and a swim at the beach. Rest can be hanging out with mates and family. Rest can be being alone. The list goes on. Whilst this time is the perfect time to rest, I do encourage you to try and give yourself more time to rest this year, so you're not having to play catch up all exhausted by the time December hits. Being physically and mentally burnt out is not fun, so let's prevent that happening. And from an exercise perspective, the better rested we are, the better results we obtain from our exercise programs!! Merry Christmas, friends :)

13.01.2022 THE BENEFITS OF PRE-OP REHAB BEFORE HAVING A TOTAL KNEE REPLACEMENT// Having a knee replacement is often a very daunting experience for so many people. But the anxiety of the surgery can be lessened with appropriate pre-op rehabilitation care. It has been shown, both in clinical studies and within our clinical practice, that being more prepared physically and mentally will assist with more optimal recovery post-op. ... Unfortunately, a lot of our clients are in a lot of pain in the months leading up to their knee surgeries (hence the knee replacements!). But there are always ways that we can help strengthen and rehab the knee without exacerbating pain. And that's what we are here for...to give you a manageable program to make sure you are as strong as you can be physically and mentally before your knee replacement. We of course are also here for you for post - op care. But we find that most people haven't been informed about the benefits of pre-op rehab...so if you're waiting for a knee replacement, and would like to learn more about what kinds of exercises you can be doing to help optimise your post operative outcomes, please contact us :) #prehab #preop #totalkneereplacement #rehabilitation #exercisephysiology #physiotherapy #physio #kneerehabilitation #kneerehab
