25.01.2022 Diversity at work isn’t without its challenges. With employees bringing different perspectives, experiences and backgrounds to work each day, this diversity can lead to misunderstandings around: seniority in teams; interpreting verbal and non-verbal behaviours; respecting different approaches to personal space; and accepting varied dress codes or styles of clothing, to name a few challenges. Remember that celebrating diversity is all about sharing new discoveries, stories, i...deas and ways of working together. And when you unlock the power of diversity, innovation and progress can flourish. 18.01.2022 As moustaches grow for Movember, this month marks the time of the year we bring awareness to men’s health issues, including their mental wellbeing. As reported in The Australian, our research reveals the increasing burden ongoing stress and anxiety is having on Australian men, with the research showing that one in five men reported ongoing stress or anxiety in 2020. This year, expectedly, a lot of the mental health problems men are experiencing are related to the ongoing so...cial effects of the global pandemic, Converge CEO Dr. Jenny George said... 18.01.2022 Managing Work & Life Tip: How do you start your day? Are you feeling rushed or stressed from the moment you wake up? If so, you may want to try another approach. How about going to bed sooner and waking up earlier to fit in exercise or a guided meditation? Start your morning off right and set the tone for the rest of the day #mentalfitness #eap

18.01.2022 What kind of activities should you do to improve your Mental Fitness? It's important to make the activity a habit or make it easy to remember (for example, set up regular reminders on your phone to do something or set a time of day when you will do it).... Change it up try to vary something about the activity every one or two times you do it. If you are recording what you are thankful for, try thinking about what you are thankful for about other people one week and then what you are thankful for about where you live another week (for example). Try the below 3 examples to get you started. #mentalhealth #mentalfitness #wellbeing #mindfulness
17.01.2022 We all experience it, but do we really know what a Fight-Or-Flight Response is? and how best to manage it in our day to day lives? Following these 3 simple steps can help you to better respond to situations and improve your mental health. #mentalhealth
17.01.2022 DIVERSITY TIP: Everyone at work brings different backgrounds, experiences, perspectives and ideas. What seems abundantly clear to you may not be so clear to others. Conflict can often arise through simple miscommunications or because people were too afraid to ask for clarification. To minimise the risk of conflict, clarity and patience are key, especially when giving instructions or explaining difficult concepts. Ensure your language is clear and free from unnecessarily comp...lex words or jargon, unless you’re certain the person you’re speaking to knows exactly what you mean. Be patient when explaining concepts, and kind when people ask for clarification. Everyone is busy, but they’re also trying to do a good job. Helping others succeed at work, will inevitably help you succeed too. #diversity #equality #diversitymatters #EAP #mentalfitness #success

17.01.2022 Managing Work & Life Tip: Want to get more out of your day? Limit distractions by turning your phone to silent (or better still, leaving it in your bag or desk drawer). You may also find it helpful to switch off desktop notifications and check your emails once every 30 or 60 minutes so you are not pulled from the task at hand. #mentalfitness @eap
17.01.2022 It’s a hectic time of year, but that doesn’t mean you should let stress beat you down. Here’s two top tips to help you glide through the silly season: Practice gratitude, daily: Research has shown that by thinking of all the things you are grateful for we can improve our mood and act as a buffer against negative emotions. Practice deep abdominal breathing: this activates the parasympathetic branch of your nervous system the part of your nervous system responsible for stimulating the relaxation response and counteracting any stress and adrenaline coursing throughout your body.
16.01.2022 Managing Work & Life Tip: Switching off from work once you get home helps you replenish, recharge, and get those creative juices flowing so you're more productive and engaged when you return to work. #mentalfitness #eap
16.01.2022 Diversity Tip: Create space where everyoneregardless of background or rankcan contribute without fear or shame. Whether a formal meeting or a lunchroom chat, use language that welcomes others to share, and makes them feel included and appreciated. This can be done by inviting colleagues to contribute, listening actively, acknowledging contributions, and thanking people for sharing. The best ideas can come from the unlikeliest places, so be open! #diversity #equality #diversitymatters #EAP #mentalfitness
16.01.2022 Managing Work & Life Tip: Free up the thoughts in your head by writing a to-do list at the start of your work day. You'll feel more in control and be able to prioritise what's most important. #mentalfitness #EAP
15.01.2022 Work environments are becoming increasingly more diverse with people bringing many different backgrounds, experiences, perspectives and beliefs. 13.01.2022 Would you be prepared to be a carer? When called upon, most of us would like to think we’d step up readily to help a friend or relative in need of help. Sure, we’d be there to listen, maybe take them to the doctor’s, drive them around and probably cook for them. We’d happily sit with them and watch TV or talk. Crisis over, we’d return to our normal pattern of life. For some people, their normal life means caring for someone on a full-time basis. As it's National Carer's Week..., it's worth taking a moment to consider that many don’t have a choice while others do it because they want to give but that doesn’t mean they don’t find it stressful. While some carers receive government assistance, it’s estimated the total number of unpaid carers in Australia is around 2.7 million people. Many of these people have careers and are often in their prime working-age when they suddenly find themselves in the position of carer. As the demand for carers, both professional and non-professional increases in Australia, it’s important that employers and society recognise this is a community issue, not an individual one. Any of us could find ourselves a carer at any time through accident or the deterioration of an elderly parent. It’s a sobering thought but at the same time, it’s the essence of what it means to be human.
12.01.2022 Diversity Tip: Show plenty of grace and forgiveness. The last thing we need is to create more isolation in a world where we’re already a bit nervous of the right and wrong things to say especially while at work. Sometimes people say the wrong thing, intentionally or unintentionally, and what we need is grace and forgiveness that allows some mistakes to go through without comment. If a co-worker does say something especially inappropriate or hurtful, rather than calling th...em out in front of everyone, take them aside and privately explain why their comment was hurtful or upsetting for you. We all make mistakes, and grace and forgiveness is an opportunity to improve a situation rather than inflame it. On the flipside, if someone lets you know something you said was hurtful, take it on board and use it as a learning opportunity to do better next time. 10.01.2022 Managing Work & Life Tip: We will never be able to control everything. You may have your heart set on something, but if it doesn't go your way, use it as an opportunity to try a different approach or solution. With practice, you will get better at moving on from the disappointment of things not going to plan, and faster at finding creative solutions. #mentalfitness #eap
10.01.2022 Managing Work & Life Tip: Take a holiday. It doesn't need to be an expensive long-distance trip. Extending your weekend even by an extra day or two and enjoying a staycation can help you recharge and reset. Look ahead and book days off throughout the year so you always have something special to look forward to. #selfcare #mentalfitness
09.01.2022 Managing Work & Life Tip: Create happiness traditions at work to bond with colleagues and break up the work day. It could be a weekly morning tea, or a pot luck where everyone brings a plate of food to share. #mentalfitness #eap
09.01.2022 We’d like to believe we are open-minded, fair and without bias, but research shows otherwise. This is an important, even if uncomfortable, realization for most of us, says Dr. Mahzarin Banaji, Professor of Social Ethics at Harvard University and co-author of Blindspot: Hidden Biases of Good People. Converge International offers diversity and inclusion training to help people recognise and address their own unconscious bias. 09.01.2022 Ask yourself, "Did I get enough sleep last night"? If the answer is no, don't worry, you're not alone. In fact, you're among the two-thirds of adults throughout all developed nations who fail to obtain the recommended eight hours of sleep a night. Sleep is one of the most critical elements in maintaining wellbeing - so much so that feeling refreshed and rested in the morning is one of the five questions in the WHO-5 wellbeing measure. Believe it or not, sleep can actually be ...the simplest, yet most overlooked, answer to negating bad thoughts and feelings. It's the ultimate "re-setter" - the single most effective thing we can do to reset our brain and mental health each day. This is why we include a good night's sleep into our mental fitness model. Without enough of it, our bodies and minds can begin to deteriorate, which can lead to more severe health conditions. #mentalhealth #wellbeing #sleep #metnalfitness
09.01.2022 From our November edition of Flourish Magazine: Family and Domestic Violence in Lockdown. Family and Domestic Violence is one of the most widespread, most urgent social problems of our times and the situation is only getting worse. Over the last few months, Converge International has seen family and domestic violence reports increase by a staggering 200%, affecting people of all ages and socio-economic backgrounds.... The major reason for this worrying rise is because of COVID-19 and the social restrictions that have come with it. Workplaces used to be a key refuge for people experiencing family or domestic violence, and while working from home has helped stop the spread of the virus, it has increased a victim’s exposure to a perpetrator and decreased their opportunities to access support. Just because Australia is enjoying a period of relaxed lockdown restrictions, it does not mean the issue goes away. Countless Australians are still working from home, while the economic and stress factors that can contribute to domestic violence still remain. If you are worried about family and domestic violence for yourself, or a colleague, reach out and ask for help through your EAP provider. #domesticabuseawareness #mentalhealth #domesticviolence

09.01.2022 Unconscious biases are social stereotypes about certain groups of people that individuals form outside their own conscious awareness. According to the University of California, "Everyone holds unconscious beliefs about various social and identity groups, and these biases stem from one’s tendency to organize social worlds by categorizing." It’s hard to address your biases if you don’t know what they are. Explore your own unconscious bias with these Harvard tests: http://ow.ly/Y5lm50uyFp7
