22.01.2022 With a ballet background this quilt was always going to appeal to me. Denise O'Keefe has made it for her granddaughter Arlo Rose - Mum was a dancer as well. The tutu is amazing. Denise has sewn together tiny hexagons and then covered it with tulle - awesome!! I was going to use a neutral quilting pattern but then remembered this Celtic heart design. I think it works well on this quilt.
18.01.2022 Happy New Year everyone. I hope you had a nice break. I was a bit shattered after a year with no holidays so it took me awhile to find my mojo. However it did eventually kick in and these are some of the pics of my playtime. As you can see there is a new addition to my world courtesy of Son #2 who thought I could use a 'motivational budgie'...."Whatever do you mean Son?" After a call out for name suggestions he is now Boy George... and I have to say he is a bit of a tartar. I really do need to work on his sense of humour and get him a new perspective. What on earth does he mean... that things should be finished within the year?!?!
10.01.2022 This Covid-crazy year will NOT prevent Cooee Quilting's Christmas champagne consumption... well...one of us anyway. Lizzie and I are taking a break for a few weeks to re-energise and fuel up the creative spark. We wish you all a safe, sane and happy holiday period. Take care.
09.01.2022 Earlier this year Son #2 very kindly informed me that I was 'ageing gracefully'! However, over the course of this year - as I have eyed my design wall in its various guises - I think that perhaps the quilter in me is much less interested in grace and much more inclined towards 'disgraceful'. It has been one loud extrovert after another leaping from the wall... more colour... more busyness ... more scale ...more more more! The quilt pictured is called 'Harlequin' by Aardvark Quilts and I made it for a colour-loving young woman who has faced more hurdles in her life than is fair. She is truly a brave-hearted free spirit and I thought this quilt would suit her.
05.01.2022 It's time for a change of scene so today we are enjoying a quilt made by Marilyn Erhart. The off-centre nature of this quilt gives it visual power and the radiating lines produce a ripple effect that is interesting. The fabrics also have metallic prints. The bronze is particularly appealing because it is an unusual colour. The quilting needed to be my swirling suns pattern to emulate the quilt's movement. Also pictured is my one concession to Christmas. I designed these years ago to use up my cream buttons. They are fiddly little suckers but they make me smile when I finish them.
