24.01.2022 GRAND FINAL HERE WE COME! The regular season came to end for 1st Grade tonight with a comfortable 3-1 victory over Glebe Gorillas. The apes took the lead with a fortunate goal direct from a corner at the start of the second half but the boys responded in fine style with 3 classy goals from Davey, Dan and Brad. ... Having had one effort remarkably cleared off the line by a defender in the first half and one harshly ruled off side it was a case of inches with the league title. Many congratulations to Glebe Wanderers who got their job done with a 2-0 victory to snatch the league by just 2 goals on goal difference. An amazing end to a long and eventful campaign. For the boys to bounce back after tragedy hit our club shows remarkable character from all involved. Congratulations to Anto and Baz for their efforts this year in leading the boys. We now look forward to yet another gigantic tussle with Wanderers in the Grand Final on Saturday 7th November. Stay tuned for more details. #DG10

20.01.2022 Huge games yesterday as we faced old friends Glebe Wanderers in two top of the table clashes. RESERVE GRADE had a tough day at the office and couldn’t quite get going throughout. Wanderers seemed to win all the 50/50’s and deservedly nicked a crucial 2-0 victory. This leaves the league very tight at the top with Coogee needing a slip up from someone to get the chocolates, but football is a funny old game so you never know. FIRST GRADE was a very entertaining battle with the... league title on the line. Not surprisingly challenges were flying in everywhere, all in good spirit of course. Glebe clearly had a long ball game in mind and got off to a great start with a hotly contested goal as the linesman’s offside decision was overruled by the referee. This only revved up the boys in black and white and a fine team move saw Keith avoid the nudie run by notching his first of the season to make it 1-1. Sam and Murph were causing all sorts of trouble on the flanks and another good team move led to an unfortunate handball. This gave JP the opportunity to take the lead from the spot and he coolly ticked it away. 2-1 at half time against the wind, handy. The second half continued in similar form to the first with Glebe looking to penetrate with their long ball approach. Fortunately the two warriors at the back Brad and Connor mopped everything up with aplomb, ably assisted by wing backs Keith and Gav. Sparky, now in his veteran years, Andy and Mooney were class in the midfield as the boys got a hold of the game again. Another unfortunate hand ball (hopefully they eventually change that rule) gave JP the chance to add his second from the spot and it was duly converted. Glebe had a good chance to peg back a goal but a brilliant last ditched challenge from Brad saved the day. 3-1 final score and results elsewhere mean both teams secure a grand final place which should be an absolute classic in 3 weeks time.

08.01.2022 Tomorrow evening sees our Premier League squad attempt to win yet another Grand Final. Up against us are old foes Glebe Wanderers. It’s going to be a classic. Here we take a chance to find out more about the playing squad; Fred - Homer Simpson look alike who has completed not only Tinder in the last 12 months but also the highest number of clean sheets in an ESFA season, which is ironic. Scotty - a fine addition to the squad this year who’s introduced a new steel between the...Continue reading

07.01.2022 Two great wins today for both grades as the momentum continued towards the back end of the season. RESSIES faced a tough battle which included dealing with old pest controllers Power and Jules who now wear the dark blue. The boys battled back from 2-1 down to grab a fantastic 3-2 victory. ... Ryan avoided the nudie run by grabbing his first goal of the season, Davey Stevens notched another, and after being on the operating table just two weeks ago Iano was also on the scoresheet. With results going our way elsewhere it opens up a great opportunity to still win the league. Gaffer Burney enjoyed the beers afterwards. FIRST GRADE knew it would be a tough challenge against a Waves side who’ve taken some significant points in recent weeks off a number of the top teams. The boys flew out of the blocks and JP capatilised on a mistake at the back with a fine finish after just 2 minutes. Waves battled their way back and but for a last ditched tackle by Bren and some tidy work from Fred Howe it could have been level at half time. With the wind in the second half the boys lifted their work rate and got a second goal through Conor Dillon who popped up with a far post header again. With only a few minutes left some silky skills from Davey Stevens again set up Daniel Murphy at the far post to keep him happy until next weekend. 3-0 final score. Special mention to midfield three of Gav, Andy and Sparky who ran til they dropped in midfield. 4 games to go and it’s all on for both grades. #DG10

04.01.2022 Two public holiday clashes vs old rivals Dunbar yesterday with mixed results for the black and white. RESERVE GRADE had a great battle at a very windy Chifley Reserve. Knowing a victory would be required to keep the title dream alive the boys played some great football despite the conditions. After missing a number of chances it finally came down to a spot kick, won by Korts who won pretty much everything throughout. Up stepped Joss who capped a great game in the centre of t...he park with a fine finish to nab a crucial victory. Final score: Dunbar 0-1 Coogee FIRST GRADE were keen to keep the momentum up for their own title challenge but unfortunately had an off day. Dunbar were first to all the second balls and in truth we never got going. A decent finish followed by an error gave Dunbar a two nil lead and despite a late consolation we never got into it. The top of the table becomes even tighter with a number of teams still able to win the title. Final score: Dunbar 2-1 Coogee
