24.01.2022 Weekend Wrap-Up First IX: Rebels 202 def by ICC 6-209 (Botha 4/55) Cricket is about partnerships and ICC created and maintained them when they needed to. 80 for the third wicket and 75 for the 7th was enough for the opposition. Last week it was our skipper, JAPO, who led the way with the bat. Unfortunately, their skipper returned serve this week with a match-winning, unbeaten 79. Pick of the bowlers was Robbie Botha with 4 poles. A frustrating but not demoralising loss for th...e Rebs, who’ve faced the competition heavyweights already. Second IX: Rebels 7-311 def Clovelly 199 (Embley 3/39, G Nittes 2/30, Gunasekera 2/36, Cummins 2/49) It was complimentary cricket from the Rebels, with the bowlers taking advantage of the great platform laid by batters Knoxy and Mooch the previous week, to win easily against Clovelly. The club’s undisputed number 1 spinner* (currently under review!) bagged himself a swag of wickets and continued to send his stock price through the roof. Third IX: Rebels 7-300 (dec) def Kingsford 189 (Quek 4/22, Hoare 3/17) A 111-run trouncing for the Rebels (thankfully we did the trouncing)! We do know that Will who cleaned up the tail and Ollie (new Spinning Cartel member) did most of the damage with the ball and the Rebels were right to declare their innings the previous week. A statement win boys to see all 3 sides currently sit inside the top 4!
22.01.2022 Congratulations to Kyle and his beautiful partner Claire on the birth of Sophia Phoebe James on Monday morning. Bub as you can see below has obviously inherited her mum's looks. You're allowed to have a week off KJ!

21.01.2022 Gents, Training is on. Can’t wait to see who has and hasn’t played the rain card. See you all soon.
20.01.2022 HOYTS REBEL OF THE WEEK Congrats to Matty Fortuin on getting the gong this week. Matty has done a great job assisting with training all season, and unfortunately hurt his shoulder with a blow on Thursday. Ever the club man, Forts who couldn't bowl still came to Lugarno to field & had a crucial cameo with the bat halting a collapse from the middle order. Gets bonus points for trying to reverse sweep the spinner for the winning runs. Well done Matty.
20.01.2022 Claims of nepotism may extend to the announcement of the HOYTS Rebel of the Week but I think this award is justified to the new member of the spin bowling Cartel, Ollie Hoare. Ollie gives his offies a rip and ran through the key batsmen in the Kingsford lineup, including the opener and top scorer- all of his wickets were bowled on the way to 3/17 off 5 overs. The Cartel's vision is to see a Rebels attack is contained solely of spinners- Ollie's effort on the weekend was a perfect advocate for that. Congrats Ollie & hit up KJ for your 2 HOYTS tickets.
20.01.2022 Excitement is building for our Night of Nights & Season Launch on Friday Night at our premier sponsor, Coogee Bay Hotel! We will be recognising the great & the humorous performances on & off the field. Premier awards including the Craig Evesson Medal (1st Grade Player of the Year), Chris Fuller Clubman of the Year, & Ian Page Award for Worst Fielder. Who will clean up?
20.01.2022 While there were claims for Dan Fourro who won a crucial toss and then paved the way with his early departure allowing Sebastien Knox to get to work. Another one from the tennis pre-season club, Knoxy may be benefitting from some extra time at the net with an imperious display at Heffron finishing unbeaten on 132* against Clovelly. Again, Damien Peters was stiff playing second fiddle (82*) after doing the same to Chris Rankin only a few weeks before! Well done Knoxy- a great... clubman who has volunteered to assist in either 1s or 2s and showed his great potential on the weekend. Hit up KJ for your 2 HOYTS tickets.

19.01.2022 Rebels win 5s and 9s premierships! Unbelievable day for the club
19.01.2022 Rebels Update: First XI: Rebels vs Clovelly 224 (Shamsi 4/70, Hosking 3/50) Clovelly were 7/110 with Ebi ripping through the top order and collecting some big scalps. What he left behind was gobbled up by Hosko. A great opportunity to bat all day on a lightning fast outfield with a solid batting lineup on Saturday.... Second XI: Rebels 83 (Donovan 44) vs De La Salle 1/248 This was a tough day of cricket, but it did welcome the return of Life Member and Rebels legend Matt Donovan. Showing no signs of rust from retirement, he added half the total, and had long time Rebels reminiscing about the previous decade when he was a first-grade run machine. The challenge is to avoid the outright on Saturday. Third XI: Rebels vs Clovelly 8/269 (Orr 4/67) This bloody Alexandria Oval seems like a batsmen’s paradise, with teams putting respectable scores up each week. Soaps kick started his wicket tally for the season, adding 4 scalps as he churned through 16 overs. Nice, also, to see the return of Peter Carnegie, who took to the bowling with aplomb and bagged a couple. His batting prowess will be even more valuable next week. This one is evenly poised.
17.01.2022 HOYTS REBEL OF THE WEEK There were some solid nominations from the weekend including our current Alexandria the Great, Tim Jackson in 1s who is averaging 120 across the last 2 weeks at Alexandria Park Oval fresh off a 78* last week, as well as the whole 2s bowling unit who were in the Christmas spirit and decided to share all of the wickets among themselves. The honour this week is shared between Damien Peters & Kevin Harty for a few reasons. Damo is in a purple patch of for...m leading a potentially tricky run chase with 45 against Souths, backing it up the following day in the Martin Shield (see below). Kevin Harty top scored with 40 in the 5s tight loss to Beverly Hills. Damo & Kev also live together for those who aren't aware & in true alpha style my informants reliably tell me that Damo was directed by alpha Kev to go to Woolies and fetch him some Krispy Kreme donuts. Kudos lads, for that you can go to the movies together courtesy of HOYTS. Hit up KJ for your tickets. See more
16.01.2022 Cracking net session yesterday despite the inclement weather with strong numbers and over a dozen new players. The excitement is building with the season less than one month away!
16.01.2022 It was a great net session to open the Summer Season overseen none other than our very own COVID-Safe Marshall, James Coventry
15.01.2022 It took a while but here are some highlights from the Rebels Training Session on Saturday. https://m.youtube.com/watch
15.01.2022 Cricket resumes today with our 3 sides in action. All sit in 5th place at the halfway point, so here's to a fast finish in 2021! All matches are one-dayer matches starting at 1.30pm. 1st Grade vs Illawarra Catholic Club @ Evatt Park, Lugarno... 2nd Grade vs Clovelly @ Booralee 1, Botany 5th Grade vs Botany @ Booralee 2, Botany See more
14.01.2022 Rebels for the win! Great bounce back with massive 100+ run wins in 2s (Cloey) and 5s (Kingsford). 1s were close but went down to defending premiers ICC by 4 wickets.
12.01.2022 HOYTS REBEL OF THE WEEK The honour this week goes to Ebrahim Shamsi who shone with 4/70 off 19 overs. After a few shining displays in 2nd grade, Ebi obviously relished the opportunity with a number of the 1s bowling attack missing, with his guile and control particularly impressive. To knock over opposition mainstays who have been playing longer than Ebi has been alive is a feather in his cap. Well done Ebi- hit up KJ for your 2 HOYTS tickets.
10.01.2022 Weekend Results: 1s- Illawarra Catholic Club 104 (Shamsi 3/13, Hosking 3/16) def by Rebels 6/106 (J O'Sullivan 28, Callanan 27) It was easily the best bowling performance of the year, led by Ebi at the top, with Frenchie & Hosko particularly tight with spin thereafter. It was always going to be a tough chase on a cow paddock but a 50-run stand at the top, helped by power hitting by Mark Callanan got the Rebels into a great position before a Rebels mini-collapse losing 6/27. T...he ship was steadied by Arvind Murali and Matty Fortuin whose 20 run stand at the end got the boys home against the defending premiers. 2s- Rebels 4/109 (Stamos 35, Fourro 31) def by Clovelly 5/113 (Stamos 2/12) Greeted by a similarly slow field with the game moved from Alexandria to Booralee, the going was slow but highlighted by a 67 run 2nd wicket stand by skipper Fourro and Michael Stamos. It wasn't quite enough though with Cloey chasing the target down with two-and-a-half overs to go. Stamos capped off a good all-round game with leading figures with the ball. 5s- Botany 9/190 def Rebels 127 Tough day for the guys, Hincho and Sully leading the way after losing early wickets at the top. Congrats to Matty Anlezark on his first wicket with the club. Ayman, Brownie and Kochie worked hard for their wickets.

09.01.2022 It was a special night on Friday with the 2nd Life Member of the Night announced & our 12th overall in Aaron Burrows (left) at our Club Night of Nights & Season Launch on Friday. It is poignant as well given Aaron will be leaving for Newcastle. What a great servant of the club across all facets! First Grade Cap #119 150 matches 603 runs @ 13.70, 1 x 50... 176 wkts @ 21.58, 3 x 5WI 28 catches, 3 run outs 1st grade captain 2012-17 Board member 2019- 30th anniversary team member See more

07.01.2022 The spinners Cartel had a great day on the weekend with Jake Embley and Ollie Hoare taking 3 poles. Maybe they used this for motivation #theartofspin https://youtu.be/ZYvgMaH_I-U
07.01.2022 The tension, the drama, it’s all happening! 5th grade join 9s in the Winter Grand Final after it was deemed the opposition fielded excessive team numbers on the weekend. Best of luck to the 2 sides playing tomorrow!
07.01.2022 Our official training will kick off on tomorrow at Turruwul Park, Rosebery. It will be a great chance to dust off the cobwebs and get back in touch with everyone. 06.01.2022 Gents, There is a decent chance of rain tonight and tomorrow morning. Keep up to date with any changes to training tomorrow here. If a final decision needs to be made it will be done by 9:45 tomorrow morning.
05.01.2022 Fantastic news with our recent Life Member, Aaron Burrows (Buzz) and his lovely wife Eryn bringing a baby girl into the world on Friday afternoon. Mila Burrows was born 3pm weighing a respectable 3.46kg and measuring 50cm. Quote from Buzz- "Even though she has ended my Rebels career, I think she's been worth it." The dancefloors of Gilligans and Mama Africa's will never be the same.
05.01.2022 In the first of a series appreciating the Art of Spin Bowling, this article shows why small variations in the rotation of the ball applied by slow bowlers in cricket can cause batsmen big problems even before deliveries have pitched on the ground. #carteltakeover https://www.financialexpress.com//mastering-the-ar/325324/
02.01.2022 Good luck to our Rebels sides in action today in 1-day games. 1st Grade vs Botany @ Heffron Park, Eastgardens 2nd Grade vs Souths @ Alexandria Park (turf) 5th Grade vs ICC @ Jellicoe Park, Botany... Go Rebels!
