22.01.2022 The Betrayer was a 1921 Australian-New Zealand film about an interracial romance between a white Australian and a Maori girl partly shot at Coogee. 21.01.2022 Coogee Bay Upgrade, Closure & CCTV Cameras The Upgrade of the eastern commercial section of Coogee Bay Road by Randwick City Council is just about finished and the area is looking great. If it was not for the COVID19 disruptions the street would be buzzing with crowds? Notable additions to the streetscape are the new closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV) adorning the revamped light poles. Great for discouraging crime, but surely if Randwick City Council goes ahead with plans to close Coogee Bay Road temporarily and turn it into a pop-up entertainment precinct and sand-pit/playground, a great new way to watch the excitement on the street - a proposal that has met with local opposition. 20.01.2022 In May 1965 Randwick Council organised a Commonwealth Youth Day at Coogee Oval with parades and speeches, and a performance by the hot new rock band Ray Brown and The Whispers. 19.01.2022 Should we be celebrating Halloween in Coogee? Many see local Halloween celebrations as crude commercialism and a copy American television. However, local children have been keen over recents years to dress up as witches, goblins and ghouls on Halloween and roam the neighbourhood in search of chocolate treats. Despite the concern of Grinches, evidence shows that Australians have celebrated Halloween for over a century. READ MORE at http://www.coogeemedia.com.au/halloweeen.htm

12.01.2022 People Want Clear Directions, Not Sermons! Despite the stern, headmaster type, expressions of disapproval from some conservative politicians about how irresponsible people were about congregating on beaches and in restaurants, once the clear instructions were given, people in general took heed of the official advice and did what was asked of them. And despite likely great personal cost - businesses closed in Coogee and people kept apart from each other. Leadership is the ke...y, perhaps lacking. Panic Buying? That would be like when people bought whatever was available (think of 100 cans of shoe polish, or 50 packets of dates) but if you take notice of what is scarce on supermarket shelves, (tinned food, pasta, paper products, food that can be frozen, etc.) these are things that can help safeguard people and their families. These are not unreasonable purchases - if you had to hunker down for some some months for the good of the community, and you try to stock up so you do not have to roam around for the good of the community, why should you be politically skewered for that. 03.01.2022 Residents and local politicians rallied at High Cross Park Randwick on Saturday 14th December to protest against the Liberal State Government's plans to privatise, to sell-off, Eastern Suburbs bus routes. Across the road, there were celebrations to mark the opening of the South Eastern Light Rail to the city. Less efficient than the buses speakers at the rally noted it was a 50 minute travel time. Federal MP Matt Thistlethwaite quipped that "I could run faster". He was not exaggerating: news reports of the first day told of breakdowns, delays and 60 minute travel times!
