05.01.2022 BEWARE THIS CHRISTMAS With the Christmas and New Year period fast approaching we’d like to remind our clients of a few hazards to avoid with your pet over this festive season. Chocolate - as we all know chocolate is yummy, but not so good for your pet. Aside from causing tummy upsets, there is a chemical in chocolate which can have a nasty side effect on your pets heart.... Raisins and sultanas - don’t feel tempted to share your delicious fruit mince pie and Christmas pudding with your pet - these fruits contain toxins harmful to your pets kidneys. Onions and garlic - while these make a tasty addition to our Christmas stuffing they can have significant effects on your pets red blood cells and lead to anaemia - so please do not feel tempted to offer them to your pet. Christmas Ham - the meat, skin, fat and bone are all big no no’s for your furry one. They can lead to obstructions in the gut or a painful condition called pancreatitis. Avoid feeding at all costs! Wrapping and decorations - tinsel, baubles and the restive wrapping and decorations can be quite sparkly and catch the eyes of your pet. Be mindful if you have a pet likely to chew and swallow - these items can become entrapped in the stomach or intestines and require surgical removal If you think your pet may eaten any of the items listed above - do not worry. We have an emergency after hours service available throughout the holidays. Please call 4841 1033 to speak to the vet.
