22.01.2022 I am dedicating this special day to my late grandfather, Mr Getano Lui Snr, on his birth date. Amongst the many things he fought for, he fought hard for the recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to have a voice and be heard in this world, where we all walk as one towards a more just and inclusive future for all! Today I received a traditional blessing by the Traditional people of the land, I took oath and was sworn into Queensland Parliament for a seco...nd term as a proud Iamalaig and Kulkalgal woman, one of three First Nations, one of twenty-one women and one of fifty-two strong progressive parliamentarians serving under the very strong leadership of Annastacia Palaszczuk MP, the first woman to serve three terms as Premier of Queensland In my grandfathers words Do your best, never give up. I promise to stand humble, work hard and always give voice to those who don’t have a voice!

16.01.2022 Each year, thousands of Queenslanders reach out to organisations like DV Connect for help. It’s important that we all play our part to stamp out domestic and family violence in our community. Today is White Ribbon Day 2020.... I encourage everyone in our community to get online today for a free virtual White Ribbon Day event. Take a stand, show your support and donate to DV Connect on this national day of action. To register, visit qld.gov.au/whiteribbonday

08.01.2022 It was an absolute honour and privilege to meet with Torres Strait Island Regional Council (TSIRC) representatives in Cairns - Mayor Philemon Mosby, Deputy Mayor Getano Lui Jnr, A/CEO Hollie Faithfull and all the Divisional Councillors from the vast outer islands of the Torres Strait. TSIRC is focussed on creating opportunities for the future - through economic development, build new and improve infrastructure, create opportunities for job/training for locals and work with ...state government to address the impact of climate change on vulnerable islands. The Palaszczuk Labor Government acknowledges and understands the complexity of the region and has invested critical funds into improving services and infrastructure work across the Torres Strait. I look forward to working closely with TSIRC over the new term to build stronger communities and create meaningful opportunities and achieve positive outcomes for locals into the future.

04.01.2022 It was wonderful to bump into Indigenous Community Basketball League (ICBL) Regional Coordinator, Kay Zaro at the FIBA Aus Vs New Zealand game last night. ICBL is founded by Australian Boomers star and 2014 NBA champion Patty Mills. ICBL aims to provide a pathway for participation and success for the next generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youths. Trials are happening in different locations and it is amazing to learn that kids in remote parts are also given the opportunity to try out. As someone who grew up in a remote community, I know how hard it is to break barriers and often, it’s only to be seen and heard! I am excited by the opportunity this will bring to kids who wouldn’t otherwise get close to such opportunities. Au esoau Bala Patty Mills
