20.01.2022 Wandering or Stray Dogs As a dog owner, you have a responsibility to keep your dog contained inside your property which means you need to have fencing that your dog can’t jump over, dig under, push over or get through. If you don’t have fencing, your dog must either be kept inside an enclosed space or chained to a fixed point or dog run. If a dog is found at large and seized by Council, your dog may be taken to Council’s animal holding facility and you could attract a $330 penalty notice (fine) plus any pound fees.

15.01.2022 Pool Safety Requirements Make sure your pool is fenced and meets safety regulations, even if it is an inflatable pool. With summer and the swimming season fast approaching Council recognises the importance of working with the community to promote increased safety for young children around backyard pools. By law, all pools that can be filled with 30cm of water or more must have a fence that meets the requirements of the Swimming Pool Act and Regulations, additional safety requ...irements include (not limited to) updated resuscitation sign, eliminating climbable zones and pool compliant gates. Penalties for not complying have been increased by the NSW Government to $5,500. Remember, a pool fence does not mean children are automatically protected - there is no substitute for supervision and vigilance. Make sure you regularly check your swimming pool and fence for faults throughout the year and never take your eyes off children when they are in or near water. Like to know more? Call Council’s Development and Environmental Services Section to discuss what fencing and safety requirements apply to pools on 6930 1800. See more

In May 2020, the NSW Government invested an additional $116 million to continue the Drought Transport Subsidy (DTS) program in recognition of the ongoing drought conditions across rural and regional NSW at that time. ... The DTS program provides a subsidy to the cost of transporting fodder, water and livestock. 12.01.2022 Thursday 26 November Saturday 28 November With temperatures in parts of the region expected to reach 35-40 degrees later this week and up to 42 degrees on Saturday, Murrumbidgee Local Health District is urging people to take the risk of heat-related illness seriously. Director Public Health Tracey Oakman said while heat-related illness may affect anyone, certain groups are particularly vulnerable. ... These include the over 75s, infants and children, people with a chronic medical condition and people who live alone. High temperatures early in the season can have a bigger impact on wellbeing as people are not yet acclimatised, Mrs Oakman said. Every year hot weather and heat waves cause illness, hospitalisations and sometimes even deaths. During a heat wave, it is very important to stay in regular contact with your elderly friends, neighbours and relatives, and to look out for other vulnerable members of your community. Heat puts a lot of strain on the body and can cause dehydration, heat exhaustion and heat stroke. It can also make underlying health conditions worse. However, being prepared and taking some simple precautions can reduce the risk of heat-related illness, said Mrs Oakman. These simple precautions will help people minimise their risk of heat-related illness: Drink plenty of water, and remember to carry some with you when you’re out and about. Avoid alcoholic, hot or sugary drinks. Plan your day around the heat. Stay indoors between 11am and 5pm and minimise physical activity. Keep the sun out of your house by shading windows with an awning, shade-cloth or plants. Shutting curtains will also help. Don’t forget your pets ensure they have shade or bring them inside, and make sure they have plenty of water

06.01.2022 Planning and Environment - Consent Required Do you know when approval is required for infrastructure on your land? NSW Government stipulates the regulations and requirements of landholders that require consent like dwellings, sheds, swimming pools and other structures.... In addition, living in sheds and temporary homes is often seen as a cost effective option to escape the rent trap and occupy land while planning or building a house. Can you live in a shed? No, It is illegal to occupy a shed or garage for residential purposes without development consent. The Building Code of Australia (BCA) requires residential buildings be built to a higher standard of construction than sheds. The lower standards required for sheds and garages render them non-habitable, and further without development approval from Council, they are illegal to reside in. Like to know more?
