21.01.2022 Shopping for the best power deals can be a hassle. There's a government website which is meant to help - https://energymadeeasy.gov.au

19.01.2022 Keep your cool for bugger all :) Did you know that one of these uses around 40-80 watts of power, whereas the aircon on your wall uses closer to 2,000 watts? If the weather is not humid, they work quite well, and allow you to have windows open etc.... Of course, with water restrictions you might not be allowed to use one, but a model like this will only consume one to two buckets worth in a typical day. They're hard to find though! This one came from Kangaroo Island.

18.01.2022 G'day all! I have suspended all house calls, except in special circumstances. Pickup and delivery in Armidale and Guyra is still an option, as well as via CT Electrics.... I have configured my Guyra office to be Covid-19 resistant: positive ventilation. (Forced air flow from front of office through to outdoors.) clear benches, wiped after each visitor separate keyboard, mouse, big screen for collaborative work on laptops while retaining isolation. Visa / Mastercard tap-and-go facilities available. cash received cleaned with metho, cash change cleaned if desired. I'm still offering assistance via Remote Control using AnyDesk or TeamViewer. I now broadcast from home, and am working towards getting other 2ARM presenters similarly set up. If you're financially stressed, I'm happy to reduce rates to $50 an hour instead of $70. Trading hours still 10am to 8pm weekdays. Hope you're all staying safe, sane and healthy!

17.01.2022 Recently, a customer asked me about 'driveway alarms' - that is, something that will let you know when someone's using your driveway to your property. Years ago I built one using an old short range two-way radio, but it was prone to being set off by magpies. Entertaining to hear them warbling away into the microphone, but slightly annoying if you're trying to sleep! Looking around for some more contemporary options, here's a few. Most can be found on eBay. Do you recommend a ...product? Please let me know :) https://nerdtechy.com/best-wireless-driveway-alarm-reviews

16.01.2022 Curious to know what phone tower you're on? This app can tell you :) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details

14.01.2022 This is different! A recent Windows 10 Update brought in a 'faulty' driver for a Brother Laser printer, causing it to print the inverse colour. Great if you want to use up all your toner I guess. MFC-L2700DW Solution was to get the latest driver from Brother instead.

13.01.2022 Just discovered the Google Keep on Chrome now supports the pasting of images! Quite handy.

09.01.2022 Funny, I was only thinking the other day that I should update my website; then someone posts on the Armidale NBN Users Group looking for web designers, and with due warning, I advise of my offerings and my crappy website! He agreed Since then, I've rebuilt it in a very spartan format over at https://coolhelp.com.au/ The old site did its job for many years over at https://coolhelp.com.au/web2/ ... I'm not ever going to be a fancy web designer with graphics design skills to wow people; and these days Facebook pages are probably more important anyway; but at least it's something.

08.01.2022 Due to my current workload, I've temporarily removed website development from my current list of offered services. Web hosting is unaffected. Developing websites can be a challenging process as there are literally thousands of different templates available, but if a customer wants to modify them; or they break; I don't have the required skills to fix them. It's a somewhat specialist field. I can still help out with creating and managing Facebook pages etc, as they are standardised.

08.01.2022 Be careful of you own a new mac and use Apple's mail app. Your emails may disappear after the Catalina update. https://mjtsai.com//2/10/11/mail-data-loss-in-macos-10-15/

02.01.2022 Got a 15 inch Macbook Pro between 2015 and 2017 - you might be affected by a battery recall: https://support.apple.com/15-inch-macbook-pro-battery-recall Apple has determined that, in a limited number of older generation 15-inch MacBook Pro units, the battery may overheat and pose a fire safety risk. Affected units were sold primarily between September 2015 and February 2017 and product eligibility is determined by the product serial number.

01.01.2022 One thing that's always a given with Google is that you can't trust them to leave things alone. A few days ago, the removed the "Add To My Drive" option for Google Drive. They replaced it with a "Add Shortcut" feature instead, which doesn't work the same way. It's still possible to add shared items to Google Drive by clicking on the item and then pressing Shift + Z... Aah well, at least they haven't removed Google Drive completely.
