24.01.2022 Winter and spring are fire seasons in northern Australia. During the dry winter months, plants that grew during the rainy summer dry up and become prone to fire. Aboriginal Australians have long used fire to manage land, and many native plants need fire to regenerate. Today, about half of the fires in Australia are started by people, and the other half are ignited by lightning. The winter fire season often produces large wildfires in Northern Territory, but the most damaging ...fires in Australian history have been during the summer in the more populous south. This image, taken on July 30, 2011, by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Aqua satellite, shows several fires burning in Arnhem Land, Northern Territory. The fires are marked in red. Smoke rises from the fires and blends into the clouds over Van Diemen Gulf to the west. The fires are burning in the Murgenella Wildlife Sanctuary, which is adjacent to Kakadu National Park. Arnhem Land, including the park and the sanctuary, is owned and managed by Aboriginal Australians. The large image, which covers a wider area, shows fires throughout Arnhem Land. With air support from NAH and Coolibah Air the local fire teams are able to help control the burn and keep the damage to a minimum. Footage: Matt Irving

Feel free to drop in and say g'day at Jabiru airfield. With good rain not too far off the falls are sure to crank up soon enough. With Trip Adviser reviews like the following you'll love every minute.... We went on the 45 minute tour of Kakadu. Our pilot was Bryce. He was fantastic and a great pilot. H...e was happy to take us anywhere we wanted to go and made sure we saw the places that you can't drive to and a fixed wing aircraft can't get as low! Flying in between gorges, over massive wetlands and down to crocodile infested waters. Saw so many crocodiles in their natural habitat rolling in the mud on the river banks and swimming around. The staff, Damien, Bryce and the office staff are professional and friendly. We loved it. Well and truly worth the money ($970 for two). Seems a lot of money but you really do see Kakadu. And you see what other people miss! See more

09.01.2022 At 5:15 pm a call comes in from the Darwin Police Rescue Coordinator regarding two fellas stuck on van roof 5nm south of Heartbreak Hotel, NT. Matt from North Australian Helicopters along with Johnny from McArthur River Mine Rescue Response Team managed to pluck the two men from the vehicle roof and deliver them to safety. #NAH #R44 #robinson #topendtourism #rescue
