24.01.2022 Our Pathways Mentor, Christian delivering an educational session at our last meeting on how to navigate the Toastmasters education platform so we can all make sure we're 'on the right path'! Thanks Christian - what a legend! If you have questions on how to use Pathways, be sure to reach out to Christian and ask for help.
23.01.2022 Congratulations to Anne Lajoie for receiving the club President’s Award at this week’s meeting! Very deserving, Anne always lights up the room with her humour and confidence. Like a most improved award the club recognises her toastmasters journey going from strength to strength and the extra effort she puts in to help grow our club and welcome new guests as our VP Membership. It’s so wonderful having Anne in our Coolum club, what a star
22.01.2022 Wow what a weekend .... all day Saturday, Saturday evening and Sunday spent honing the art of public speaking, practising leadership skills, renewing friendships and laughing!! I can't remember when I had so much fun!! Coolum Toastmasters - you did so well. Congratulations Brad on taking 2nd place in the International speech contest, and congratulations Ali on 3rd place in the Evaluation contest. Sue Moore you were conference emcee extraordinaire and Melinda - what an outstanding leader of our division. Thank you everyone for a fabulous couple of days.

20.01.2022 Awards | We give a lot of these out at Toastmasters. It’s a way of acknowledging as a club and as an individual the progress you are making towards your personal goals. Congrats to Prue for completing Level 2 in her Pathways and Mike Storkey for Level 5 (Mikey is a seasoned Toastmaster of 30 years and is progressing through yet another Pathways track). Well done to you both in your achievements

19.01.2022 {WEBINAR SERIES} Interview skills are critical when looking for work. 18.01.2022 Wow! that was an amazing meeting and an amazing learning curve. 19 members in an on-line meeting - our first ever. And a great meeting. We had a warm up, word of the night, table topics, two speeches - one being Dealing With A Difficult Audience where members had to interject, disrupt and argue ... we had evaluations ... in fact the whole gamut! And we had a past member who'd moved to WA join us ... it was fantastic to have Brad with us again!! We learned a lot about workin...g on line ... like need more time on the agenda for handovers and mute/unmute. Everyone was much more relaxed about impromptu when sitting in their own space - and they went over time! Our timer tonight did a fantastic job - but one of the things we learned: Timer has to be Tough!! Red card ... 15 seconds .... ring the bell. Thank you everyone in Coolum Communicators - we had a great evening and we are really growing skills for face to face AND online presentations! Out of adversity comes opportunity!! See more
17.01.2022 Is it okay to laugh in serious times? This interview with Judy Carter teaches techniques on spreading humour to help relieve stress, soothe tension, and improve your mood.
17.01.2022 BACK to the future or FORWARD to the past: Our last meeting of 2020 provided a timely reflection of the year that’s been, our achievements of the past and what the future might hold. And the key takeaway - you’re the author of your story, you write your future! Merry Christmas to you all We can’t wait to hear you speak next year!
16.01.2022 Thank you to Bendigo Community Bank Marcoola for their sponsorship, helping us to keep our meeting fees affordable.
15.01.2022 Last night we held our second round of Club Contests, these nights are always so much fun! Congratulations to all contestants. Table Topics: 1st - Melinda Cornwall 2nd - Anne Lajoie ... 3rd - Alison Cooper And a big hearty well done to our President Christian Welsh for ‘Slaying the Dragon’ in his International Speech showcase which left us all with a powerful message - you really do need to love yourself enough to succeed.
15.01.2022 Do you want to be a great speaker or a great leader? Well I think we have to accept it’s the effort you’re prepared to put in that determines the speaker and leader you become. Toastmasters can only help you if you’re prepared to help yourself. There is no magic wand!
14.01.2022 Happy New Year!
14.01.2022 Wow you have to watch these photographers they can catch you at an unexpected moment ... I was talking about powerful meetings and creating the WOW factor!! I hope you get the picture
13.01.2022 Embrace your curiosity. You never know what you'll learn or where it will take you.
13.01.2022 Well these are interesting times aren't they. Coolum Communicators won't be holding their meetings Face to Face at the moment. Sadly our venue has had to close its doors plus the government wisely asks that non-essential meetings aren't held. But it takes more than a wretched little virus to stop Toastmasters from talking! We will be holding our meetings on line, growing our skills in a new forum and still having a laugh .... and Lordy .... we could all do with a laugh right now. If you've been thinking about coming to Toastmasters hold that thought because like Arnie ... we'll be back!!
12.01.2022 Two of our club representatives Prue Loone and Marilyn Freeman (pictured) presented to the Year 8 English classes at Coolum Beach Christian College earlier this week on how to present a powerful speech. Marilyn said "it’s wonderful to know that our high school students are encouraged to practice public speaking skills what a great way to grow their self-confidence. "Coolum Christian College went one step further and invited Coolum Toastmasters to come and present on how del...iver a powerful speech. The students are just starting work on their speaking project, presenting a 4 minute inspirational speech on someone who has overcome adversity. "Prue and I gave a 40 minute interactive presentation getting students to use their voice, warm up the vocal chords, speak with passion and use gestures and eye contact. As a finale, they viewed Toastmasters International World Champion of Public Speaking, Dananjaya Hettiarachchi in action with his speech I See Something.. demonstrating on all the points we’d discussed." Thank you Prue and Marilyn for sharing your knowledge with our local youth!

11.01.2022 OUT with the old - IN with the new! It’s great to be back! Coolum Communicators had its first face to face meeting last night since Covid-19 started. Although we continued to meet online, nothing compares to the energy of being in the same room. It was a fun night full of humour - members were clearly enjoying human interaction again - as well as some significant milestones and award ceremonies (more on those awards in an upcoming post). Meeting Chair Prue Loone set the to...ne of the night well with these wise words: Old is wise. Old is experience. Old knows stuff. We thanked the outgoing Executive Committee and welcomed in the new with the support of outgoing Area 16 Director Irene Waters. Thank you Irene for all the support and friendship you’ve provided our club. A heartfelt Thank You to outgoing President Mike Storkey. Your leadership, mentorship and international Toastmasters experience has been a great support to each and every member in the club and we’re so glad you’re not going anywhere! Congratulations to our newly elected club President, Christian Welsh! We know we’re in good hands with you at the helm supporting our Toastmaster journeys.

10.01.2022 One of the things that makes Coolum Communicators such a great Toastmasters club is the mix of experience in the room. As a new Toastmaster starting your journey, it's invaluable learning from and watching the more experienced Toastmasters in the club. Marilyn Freeman has been on her Toastmaster journey for 20 years and has invested so much of her time into various Executive and Senior leadership positions in the Coolum club and across the District. Marilyn's most recent ro...le at Coolum was the Vice President Education and was fundamental in setting the agendas, organising educational sessions and mentoring and motivating new members. Her experience shines through in her public speaking and it's always a delight watching Marilyn speak. It was a great moment to see Marilyn recognised with the highly acclaimed Toastmaster of the Year Award earlier this month as well as a 20yr Toastmaster recognition badge. Congratulations Marilyn and thank you from all of us at Coolum for always encouraging us to be better versions of ourselves.

01.01.2022 One of the benefits of being a Toastmaster is the opportunity to stretch the skills you’ve been learning in a competitive way. Our club held its first contests for the year this week with members testing their Evaluation and Humorous Speaking skills. Congratulations to all participants : Chris Aitken and Brad Everton as our two Contest Chairmen who emceed proceedings and group discussions; Evaluation contestants Christian Walsh (1st place ), Alison Cooper (2nd place), Anne... Lajoie (3rd place); and Humorous Speech contestant Adam Vos. Both Christian and Adam will go on to compete at the Area 16 contests against other clubs. We can’t wait for the remaining speech contests in a few weeks!
01.01.2022 A big warm shout out and thank you to Marcoola Community Bank Branch of Bendigo Bank for their sponsorship of Coolum Communicators 2019/20. Their support has enabled us to keep member fees affordable (which was really helpful through challenging times this year) and assisted with venue hire at North Shore Community Centre, Mudjimba where we love meeting twice a month to practice our public speaking and leadership skills. Our club is so grateful for the support received. Thank you!
