19.01.2022 PROCRASTINATION Do you struggle with procrastination? If yes, save this post . Here are 4 simple tips to stop dilly-dallying and start slaying that to-do list today. Try short-focus burst using a POMODORO focus timer (there are plenty of free ones onlinetry the simply Focus Keeper app on your phone or Pomodor for a web-based experience). Put your emails on SNOOZE. This is really easy to do in Gmail. The alternative is to completely shut them down ...for a couple of hours (they will wait). Put your phone OUTSIDE of the room or at least out of arm's reach. Avoid the temptation of a quick scroll that soon turns into a 30min distraction session. Single-taskfocus on the ONE most important task on your list and do it til' it's done. It may feel like a slog but it's a sure-fire way to make your big goals happen. How do you stay focused? Share your tips and experiences in the comments. See more
18.01.2022 OPPORTUNITY It can show up in the weirdest of ways. But we're often too close to see it. I offer 90-min one-to-one brainstorm sessions to help you reveal new opportunities and troubleshoot challenges in your freelance biz. But first, why should you trust that gal in the pic? 1. I am a marketer through and through. I've got the degree to prove it plus almost 15 years experience working with big and small brands in the corporate world, agencies and as ...a freelancer. A lot of the challenges I see freelancers face come back to marketing and communication (with a side of confidence). 2. I know that the challenges of self-employment. I've been freelancing full-time since 2017, and started side-hustling' in 2014. I'm still here, loving it, growing, and evolving every day. I've been through what you're going through (most likely) and have some proven strategies, templates, and tools to share. Together we can find the next best step for you. 3. I believe there is room for everyone, and more than enough work to go around. #abundancemindsetbaby When you book a session with me there is no upsell, no hidden agenda. This means you'll get some straight-up advice to set you on your way. You could have one session and be full to the brim with inspiration for the next few months. So whether you want to talk marketing, money, or mindset, a one-to-one session can give you the space you need to tackle any challenges head-on and find opportunities where you least expect them. Got a question? Leave a comment or DM me. Or if you're ready to stop marinating in worry and start taking action, let's do this! Click the link in bio to book a session. See more
17.01.2022 CREATIVITY Earlier this week, our virtual coworking club members were treated to a masterclass on creativity with @marionpipercreative. She walked us through many aspects of creativity, from movement to music to mindset to neuroscienceplus a little woo too. I have to admit, it brought a tear to my eye. Creativity takes courage. It takes practice. It is a process. And it's bloody beautiful. Here are some takeaways to inspire your cre...ativity as you go into the weekend... Open your imagination by asking 'what if?' Remember, nothing interesting begins with knowingit's in not knowing (be ok with not having the answers). Step into the space of possibility. Ask 'what is the next small step?' (take the pressure off 'being' creative). Step awayallow space for ideas to come back naturally. This is merely a sprinkle of the magic shared. For me, the main thing to remember is to stay CURIOUS. Start there, and creativity is sure to follow. Happy weekend. See more
16.01.2022 SLOW #realtalk I took a digital walk down memory lane in the weekend and was reminded that business takes TIME. I've been chipping away at Cool Wow Collective for a while (swipe see to my first photoshoot in 2016). But, I actually registered the name in 2013 with ZERO clue as to what it was. I just knew I wanted to create something for MYSELF and not have to kiss-ass in a corporate office forever. I ran it as a creative agency, then a talent agency, th...en a directory, then it did nothing for a while. I was on the verge of shutting it down at the end of last year until I had a game-changing conversation with my talented biz pal @emilyosmond who reminded me I had something good and to keep persisting. Then this year COVID came which actually gave me the shove I needed to launch the Virtual Coworking Club. Now this lil biz has connection, authenticity, and support smack BANG at the centre, and I'm in LOVE. It's truly aligned to ME and my values. But I wouldn't have got here without time, and many detours. I sometimes feel like I'm 'behind' or still not 'successful'. But really I am. I have learnt so much, I have built my biz with curiosity, intention, integrity, heart, and a lot of GRIT. And even when things didn't pan out, I discovered a deeper connection with myself. That's a win in my eyes. So this is simply a reminder to you to go EASY on yourself. Pace yourself. Remember that growing a business takes TIME (even if it looks like everyone else is racing ahead). Take small, purposeful steps. Make it fun. Explore your edges. And strive to create biz you'll LOVE being in for many years to come. by @prue_aja_photography, one of my first #bizbesties and long time member of the many versions of #coolwowcrew. See more
14.01.2022 PRODUCTIVITY Can Virtual Coworking Make You More Productive? Science says yes! Here's why... 1. Implementation intentions When you declare what you are going to work on to someone else, it acts just like a contract and keeps you focused. ... 2. The social facilitation effect The energy of others can act as a substitute team, even when working on your own thing. This boosts motivation and helps you perform better. 3. Pre-commitment When you make a commitment in advance of time, for example putting coworking in your diary, you've set an intention to show up and do the work. So you do it! 4. Eliminates distraction You have space and a real human reminding you to put your phone away, snooze emails, and focus. We all need a reminder sometimes. 5. Supports concentration Our poor old noggins are so easily distracted. Short focused work bursts retrain the brain to concentrate and achieve more. 6. Eliminates overwhelm With limited time you can break tasks down into blocks of time to suit each focus session. This helps you make progresseven on big projects. These are just some of the key behavioural triggers that work to subconsciously spur us into action, plus a few practicalities that make virtual coworking so damn effective. If you are keen to join, doors are NOW OPEN! It’s the last day to join over 40+ biz babes in the club. Apply via link in bio. See more
12.01.2022 OH HEEEY I'm Haley. The face behind Cool Wow Collective. I'm your trusty Virtual Coworking host, optimist, and always-on cheerleader for babes who freelance. I too freelance for a living. I earn my keep offering strategy and writing services for brands doing goodI'm inspired by people actively striving for a better world. That sh*t lights me up. Cool Wow Collective started as a passion project and has taken many forms over the ye...ars. This year is my favourite year yet! Virtual coworking is the best and it all feels so damn rightshout out to the 40+ babes who are part of it. And since we are getting to know each other, here are 3 random facts about me: I see rainbows out of one eye due to a botched laser eye surgery. It's not that bad, it's kinda cool really. I have danced since I was little. It's one of my fav ways to get out of my head and into my bodyalthough sadly I don't do it much anymore. I used to perform in a Beyonce inspired dance schooluntil Beyonce's lawyers sent a cease and desist letter. Oops. Don't mess with Queen B. I have been 'let go' from two jobs. Being made redundant sucks, but these times were catalysts that spurred me into action to do my own thing. Now I get to do what I love every day alongside humans I adore without the 9 to 5 confines (ew). Over to you! What brings you here? Hit me with your random facts. by @prue_aja_photography See more
12.01.2022 HASHTAGS Have you updated your hashtags lately? Instagram is a rad marketing channel for freelancers, but so many of us aren't doing it right. We copy/paste the same hashtags onto each post with little variation. Instagram doesn't like that. Instagram's community guidelines clearly state that posting repetitive comments or content is not cool. If you use the same hashtags ob every post, your content will be penalised by that dang al...gorithm. Our 'hashtags for creative freelancers' guide is the first resource in the Cool Wow shop. It makes it easy to choose relevant and UNIQUE hashtags from 363 carefully curated options. It will save you a bunch of time (and headache) wondering if you're doing it right. 10.01.2022 MOON I’ve always been fascinated by the moonit’s morphing shape, it’s constant cycles, it’s power to shift tides. Its potent energy has been celebrated since the beginning of time. So how can we harness the cycles of the moon to make magic in our business? It's not as hard as you think. There are 8 phases of the moon in a 29.5-day cycle. The first 4 phases are when the moon is getting bigger (waxing), these lend themselves to gr...owth and creation. The second 4 phases are when the moon is getting smaller (waning), these are more suited to reflection or celebration. Check out the full story and learn more about each of the 8 phases on the blog. 07.01.2022 BOUNDARIES What’s a business without boundaries? It’s late nights, awkward conversations and a head full of worry. #TRUTHBOMB, we teach people how to treat us. Boundaries are important in any relationshipthe freelancer/client one is no different. If you’ve ever struggled with clients not respecting your boundaries, you’re not alone. ... Here are 3 simple boundaries you should be setting with your clients right NOW. Hours of availability: you're allowed to take time off. Plus rest helps you recharge and do better work. Win for you, and your clients. Communication preferences: there are soooo many channels today, tell clients what works best for you to make the relationship smooth sailing. Rounds of revisions: a simple one, but when not set those 'little changes' can easily add up to a LOT of time. Get clear and communicate as you go when they are hitting the upper limit. Remember that boundaries give you the headspace to do your best work. They will help you be a happier, healthier, more productive freelancer in the long run. Am I right? 06.01.2022 PLAY by @tobehonestnl. Rest and play are essential to the creation process. Playfulness by nature is lighthearted, often surprising, and makes us laugh. It shifts our brains out of work-mode and makes way for magical 'ah-ha' moments to occur these are the kind of ideas that can actually help your business thrive. Let this be an invitation to you, to make room for some play today (and everyday). ... What does play look like for you? P.s. My new form of play is roller skating! I have done 2x lessons and just brought my first pair! Watch out world (and any obstacles that get in my way...cos I don't know how to stop properly yet). See more
05.01.2022 SURVIVING Starting out as a freelancer is exciting, but it comes with some nail-biting moments too. Here are 5 ways to survive (and slay) your first year as a freelancer. HAVE A PLAN You want to get clear on a few things including what you’re good at, who your target audience is, how you are going to reach them, and how you are going to help them solve their problems. Write it down. Don’t be afraid to go narrow with your audience and solve a sp...ecific needthis will make communication clearer and sales flow more easily. SET A SCHEDULE Being a successful freelancer is about discipline. That first year often comes with some long hours while you’re establishing yourself and finding flow. But try not to make work your 24/7. Taking time to relax and recharge is essential for creativity. Your time is now your currency, protect it. MARKET YOURSELF There's no time to be quiet and humble as a freelancer. Sure your amazing work may speak for itself, but to survive, you need to get it SEEN by the right people. So know what makes you awesome, and be confident in how to communicate that so that potential dream clients get it too. OVERDELIVER Your first clients will make or break your businessbecause reputation is EVERYTHING when you're self employed. Do a great job and you’ll have a happy client telling their friends about you. This word-of-mouth marketing is invaluable (and practically free)! GET SUPPORT Freelancing can get lonely AF. The good news is, plenty of others have walked that path ahead of you. Learn from others, get a coach, attend networking events, join a coworking space or virtual club (like Cool Wow). The relationships you make with fellow freelancers will give you a shoulder to lean on when you need it (and trust me you’ll need it). They can also be a valuable referral network too. YOU GOT THIS See more

01.01.2022 SALES Earlier this month, our Virtual Coworking Club members were treated to a masterclass on selling (without the sleaze) by @baybradfield. Bay walked us through the anatomy of a sales call and showed us how to get a YES from clients on the phone. Let me tell you, I tried it, and it worked like magic...not once, but twice (resulting in $8K worth of sales )! This presentation was filled with pure GOLD. Here are some takeaways to pond...er as you end your week... Reframe your mindset, selling is SERVING. You are simply giving someone the opportunity to make the best decision for themselves. This will remove the ickiness. The best sales skill is the ability to be QUIET. Yep, you should NOT be talking much at all on your sales or discovery calls. #gamechanger You know those pesky objections, "I don't have the budget" or "I'll come back to you on timing", these are obliterated if you bring them up firstYOU need to drive the conversation. This is merely a dash of the wisdom shared. If you want more, go and follow @baybradfield and keep your eyes peeled for her online course launching soon. Happy Friday. See more
