23.01.2022 Hi friends, It is good to see the grass still green again, at this usually dry time of the year. Recent rains have done their magic, as we see rain clouds building here, in this picture at Harbour Quays. There have been some spectacular cloud formations this week, large bulky ones of unusual shapes and sizes. These are often the cumulus clouds, with the flat bottoms, and then there are the rain bearing, Nimbus clouds. When these 2 cloud types join together, they can form stu...nning tower like formations, in the sky. These are then known as Cumlo-Nimbus clouds. Look out for them and your might capture some sensational cloud formation pictures yourself, with your camera or phone. Great weather now while its still relatively mild, for great walks and getting out and about. However dont forget the hat and sunscreen. Take care and enjoy it all. Until next time, look after yourselves and nature. Cheers, Chris See more
21.01.2022 Hello Everyone, Well Spring time is well and truly here, with the gusty north westerly winds, heralding the change of seasons. The picture is showing interesting patterns of tree shadows on the road, near Coombabah Plaza and on the fence on the property, opposite. I hope you have been able to get out and enjoy a walk /ride lately. The Spring is producing new botanical surprises everyday, as seasonal plants and trees bloom now. We are into a time when snakes are becoming activ...e again, so be mindful of this when walking in our beautiful parks and even near our beaches. The following information is taken from the City Council website; 'Snakes are protected under the Nature Conservation Act 1992 and it is an offence to kill, injure or take snakes from the wild. Snakes usually prefer to retreat when encountered but, if they feel threatened, they can become defensive. Most snake bites are received by people who try to capture or kill a snake. If you encounter a snake, don't panic. Back away to a safe distance and allow the snake to move away. Snakes often want to escape when disturbed. If you witness a snake on City land that you believe may pose a risk to the public, please contact us on 1300 GOLD COAST (1300 465 326) or 07 5582 8211 to arrange an inspection. If the snake is located on private property, you should contact a snake catcher via yellow pages.' Good advice, so please enjoy the great outdoors and look after yourselves and nature. Until the next time. Best wishes Chris
04.01.2022 Hi Friends, Well the weather has been a bit fresh these nights, followed by lovely, sunny days, hasn't it. The recent rain, has greened things up and the native animals in our parklands would be enjoying some good pickings at present. There are some lovely winter flowers for us to enjoy, such as, brilliant orange trumpet flower hedges, scarlet bougainvillia bushes and purple tibouchina trees at present. Grevillias are looking pretty good too! Why not take a walk or drive aroun...d our northern suburbs to enjoy these beauties, while they are at their best! Good time during the cooler months to get out and enjoy a nature walk in our wonderful Conservation Parks at Coombabah and the Arundel section too. There is to be hazard reduction burning in August and September in the Pine Ridge Conservation Park, so probably best to time your walk there, or leave it until after it is over. Until the next time, take care of yourselves and the animals. Yours in nature, Chris
