25.01.2022 Our team is busy folding a newsletter that will be dropped to the residents of Wongawallan and the rear of Highland Reserve this Sunday. These areas have been identified as a high risk area for the fire season and our volunteers will be walking the streets dropping these letters and having a marquee set up in Wongawallan Drive. More information will be posted before Sunday.

25.01.2022 Our members had an amazing day and our crew on Coomera Valley 52 came in 2nd place out of 40 crews. Outstanding effort and the learning experience for our newer members was fantastic. We cant wait until next year but now we start concentrating on fire season that has started. As well as attending the Group Exercise on Saturday, our crews conducted a Hazard Reduction Burn, responded to a rubbish fire and a grass fire and responded to a motor vehicle accident. What a start but our volunteers are ready to respond 24hrs a day.

25.01.2022 Residents of Wongawallan and Highland Reserve. Please be advised this Sunday the 16th of August from 10am, our members will be walking the streets marked out within the purple line in the below map. These areas that are surrounded or back onto bush land, have been identified as a high risk bush fire area for this season and we will be dropping an information letter on how to prepare your home. We are more then happy to stop and have a chat and discuss the letter and give some... helpful advice. This is a great opportunity for our members to speak with the community and also for you to meet our volunteers. We look forward to meeting a lot of residents on the day and we would love to answer any questions about the fire season and the recent levy announcement by the G.C.C.C. 20.01.2022 Its Yellow Ribbon Day! A day to show our support to our hard-working Rural Fire Service (RFS) volunteers On this day last year, they were already on the fron...t-line fighting devastating fires near Stanthorpe in the states south-west and Binna Burra in the south-east. Theres more than 30,000 of them across the state and we cant thank them enough for all they do. Binna Burra bushfire 2019

20.01.2022 Our mates over at #OrmeauRFB are raising awareness for men's health participating in Movember. Some faces that only a mother could love but they are legends in our books. Jump on the link and donate to a great cause.

20.01.2022 Today across QLD is Yellow Ribbon day to show appreciation for the volunteers that jump on the yellow trucks and respond to all different types of incidents. Our crews have spent thousands of hours over the last several years fighting bushfires not only in our own patch but across the country. They have assisted with storm clean ups, conducted Hazard Reduction mitigation burns and attended many public relation events. They are super stars and today they are recognised for their efforts. #weappreciateyou #RFS #Teamwork #DevotedVolunteers #Thankyou

18.01.2022 Predictions from the BOM for Wednesday & Thursday are temps in the high 20s with low humidity and strong winds gusting to 60km/ph. Please ring 000 immediately if you see any fires. This is not the time to conduct any Hazard Reduction Burns, even a small pile of garden waste or rubbish.

18.01.2022 Hazard Reduction Burn Crews about to commence a small land burn in Solomon Dr Wongawallan. Should be minimal smoke in the area but please be advised crews will be on scene for several hours.

We know there is properties with horses and animals in that area and they should be aware of the aircraft landing at the Showgrounds. Its looking like an amazing exercise for our crews and we know our team is ready to test their skills and do their best at the Exercise.

17.01.2022 Good work Queensland. Good game played by all.

13.01.2022 ***Springbrook Fire Update*** The fire at Springbrook is on the West escarpment near the split road and is still burning, mostly in inaccessible areas. Multiple... Gold Coast brigades along with Mudgeeraba are currently working to contain & extinguish it. There are aircraft mapping the fire currently and water bombing has been requested. Fire command is set up at Apple Tree park, so please avoid the area and watch out for trucks and fire fighters coming and going. SLOW DOWN. Theres smoke, trucks and people moving around the Apple Tree Flats / Split road area.

13.01.2022 Alot of activity at our station today with volunteers from across the area training in Firefighter Advanced Skills. Good luck to all the members undertaking this training.

12.01.2022 Our crews are now in the Stony Creek Dr area dropping letters in this area.

12.01.2022 Coomera Valley has members that also volunteer with the Operational Support Unit at Gold Coast Group. They are a critical part in supporting incidents and they have provided support in the past at large incidents in Wongawallan. They are not part of State funding and can only purchase vehicles and equipment with funding provided by the $1 levy collected. This Group needs continuing support so they can continue supporting all incidents across the Gold Coast for all agencies.

12.01.2022 Crews have been briefed and should commence burning at 0930 around the Nucrush Quarry area. Residents should be prepared for smoke in the area. Big thank you to the following Brigades that are assisting with the burn today: Guanaba Bonogin Valley... Gilston Advancetown Birnam Tamborine See more

12.01.2022 The Gold Coast Rural Fire Brigade Group represents 15 Volunteer Fire Brigades that rely on the funding that the Gold Coast City Council has been collecting for ...several years on our behalf. This has been done via a special levy charge of $1 on the yearly rates notice. The Gold Coast City Council has voted to now cease the collection of $1 from rate payers. The funds collected are vital in the operation of the Gold Coast Groups Volunteer Fire Brigades. Our Group of Brigades and its volunteers are extremely concerned at how we will be supported financially after the final levy payment of only $1 is collected by the Gold Coast City Council. We are asking for the communities of the Gold Coast that you voice your opinion about the $1 levy and ask the question to your local Councillor why they have decided not to collect the levy to support our volunteers. See more

11.01.2022 Our team is on the ground at the corner of Wongawallan Dr and Larcombe Dr. There is community information available for residents and our crews are now walking the streets delivering letters to all residents. Please feel free to drop into our marquee and speak with our team.

10.01.2022 Our local Fire Warden has advised that even with the rain in our area last week, there are parts that have dried and didn't receive much of the rain. With the recent warm temperatures and windy days, the vegetation has dried and has potential to burn. Our Fire Danger Rating signs are remaining on Very High due to these observations. Please ensure your taking all the necessary precautions around your home. Fire Season is still here. Go to ruralfire.qld.gov.au for more information on preparing your home

10.01.2022 How will you keep cool? A heat wave will sweep the South East today, with top temperatures of 35 at Nerang and 36 at Canungra. Temperatures are expected to... reach up to 40 degrees out west. Gold Coast Health says the edlerly, frail and young are most at risk but everyone should minimise physical activity and avoid alcohol. Heat stress can begin with symptoms like headaches, lethargy, nausea and vomiting. Don't forget your furry friends, making sure they have plenty of water and shade.

09.01.2022 ##Update Fire has been contained and crews are now patrolling and mopping up the edges. There will be crews working through the night to patrol and monitor. We have crews on scene bringing this fire under control.

09.01.2022 To most 343 is just a number. To nearly all firefighters around the world, it is a humbling reminder of the events that took place in New York on this day, 19 y...ears ago. This is because on 9/11, 343 New York City Fire Department (FDNY) firefighters did not finish their shift. The tragedy claimed the lives of 2977 innocent victims, and many continue to be impacted. To date, 227 additional firefighters have died with illnesses related to 9/11, with 27 names recently added to the FDNY World Trade Centre Memorial Wall. Never forgotten!

09.01.2022 Just a reminder... If its flooded, forget it!! If you need any assistance after the heavy rain fall give SES a call on 132 500.

08.01.2022 QFES is prepared, are you? Today marks the official start of Queenslands bushfire season for 2020. With more than 100 structures lost and countless resources utilised, lets take a look back at what we faced last season.

08.01.2022 Border Update Queenslands Chief Health Office has declared all of NSW and ACT as COVID-19 hotspots. Borders will close from 1am Saturday, August 8. All vis...itors will be denied entry with few exemptions. Returning Queenslanders will have to pay for 14 days mandatory quarantine in a hotel. Residents of border communities and essential workers will still be able to cross. More details to come.

08.01.2022 **HAZARD REDUCTION BURN Sat 29th August** Coomera Valley RFB and four other Brigades will be conducting the planned Hazard Reduction Burn at the Nucrush Quarry this Saturday. Weather conditions are looking perfect for this burn to proceed. (We are continually monitoring weather predictions) Residents in Emerson Way & Roche Court can expect multiple firefighting appliances arriving on site from 0800. At the corner of Emerson Way & Roche Court near the boom gate to the Quarry, ...will be the Incident Control location and residents with any concerns can speak with our team but we ask to remember social distancing when speaking with them. Residents in the following streets will see alot of firefighting appliances and crews from around 0900 as they set up and get ready for the burn that should commence from 0930: Stolle Court Newcombe Lane Rosewall Place White City Drive Wimbledon Way Firefighting crews and appliances will be on site throughout the day until the burn is complete and mopped up (putting water on smouldering logs etc) There will be staff from Nucrush and also a wildlife contractor on site to work with firefighters to locate any animals in the planned burn area. Residents in this area should close windows and doors and those with breathing difficulties should be aware that there will be a considerable amount of smoke. This will be a low intensity burn to reduce the bushfire risk and we should have a great outcome for neighbouring residents and the land holder. First Officer Wayne Teece See more

08.01.2022 This was a very busy weekend for our Brigade and today we have a crew attending the Springbrook fire to patrol and assist where needed. We cant implore enough on our community that the levy collected is vitally important to maintain our service level. Yes the State Government provides our fire fighting appliances, fuel and maintenance and the basic equipment but there is so much more that money is needed to run a busy volunteer fire station. This really needs to be sorted so our members dont have to worry about how this will effect ours and all other Brigades across the Gold Coast.

07.01.2022 Two crews from Coomera Valley are assisting with the fire in Springbrook today. Thank you to our volunteers for giving up their Sunday to go and help.

07.01.2022 **Hazard Reduction Burn - Oxenford Residents Coomera Valley RFB and our local Fire Warden have been working closely with the Nucrush Quarry to plan an upcoming HRB in the area identified in the below map. There has been alot work done by Nucrush to clear areas around the neighbouring houses and the GCCC has been inspecting and cleaning fire hydrants in these areas ready for our use for this burn. This HRB is planned to be conducted on Sat the 29th of August from 0900 depending on weather conditions. There will be multiple appliances assisting with Helensvale Fire & Rescue also attending. We will keep the community updated with any further information but please share this information with community groups in the effected area. Thank you

07.01.2022 A big thank you to our team of volunteers that have spent the day dropping letters to our community and a big thank you to the residents that came out and had a chat with us. It has been a great day talking with the community. There is still some areas that need to receive the letter in parts on Highland Reserve but we will do this in the coming week.

06.01.2022 Fire Season is here. When you see red & blue, you know what to do Slow Down! Lets keep the brigades safe while they are keeping us all safe.

06.01.2022 UPDATE MONDAY 24th AUGUST We have been advised that this planned Hazard Reduction burn has now been postponed indefinitely due to COVID-19 restrictions. The saf...ety of our firefighters and community is our highest priority. ANOTHER UPDATE Afternoon Brigade Officers, Fire Warden & VCE. We have been advised by SEQWater that this Hazard Reduction burn has been postponed due to blowy conditions over next few days followed by cooler max temps until Sunday. There may be an opportunity in regards to Weather, from Monday next week being the 24th of August which will be looking at warmer temps and reasonably stable winds. The brigade will advise when we know more. UPDATE This burn has been POSTPONED to commence now on Monday 17th August, depending on the weather. Beechmont Rural Fire Brigade will be involved in the large planned burn scheduled near the Beechmont area and Hinze Dam. We will have 2 crews at ignition points on private property along Beechmont Road and will also be patrolling and monitoring as needed. The reduction burn is scheduled to begin on Wednesday 12 August, subject to weather conditions and other unforeseen delays. This approximate 500ha burn will take up to seven days to conduct and will be led by Seqwater in coordination with Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) and other land agencies. We expect the burn to produce significant amounts of smoke that will drift into surrounding areas including: Advancetown Beechmont Numinbah Nerang Canungra Lower Beechmont. The burn will progress in three stages which will include ground and aerial ignitions combined with monitoring and patrol work across private and public land. If you live in the area, or are visiting or travelling through, please remain vigilant and follow the directions of staff and traffic control signage on site. If you have a respiratory health condition, please follow the advice of our health practitioner and in case of an emergency, call Triple Zero (000).

06.01.2022 To the Gold Coast Community We have been overwhelmed with your support in the opposition of the councils secret move to remove without any consultation or disc...ussion, the $1 a year per property levy from the Gold Coast volunteer fire brigades. We as the group of volunteer brigades on the Gold Coast just wanted to let you know how your money is spent each year protecting our community. The monies collected allow brigades to: Ensure vital pieces of equipment like generators, chainsaws, blower vacs and portable pumps are Serviced Ensures our operational firefighters have access to food on the fire ground for shifts that can sometimes last up to 24 hours Cater for training events and assessment days Allows us to buy stationary products to ensure we can deliver community messaging as well as training and general clerical activities required Funding of first aid training including the use of emergency oxygen and defibrillators Maintenance of fire stations including pest control, test and tag, fire extinguisher testing, emergency repairs and upgrades to essential items Purchase of helmet torches, small tools and equipment for station and general maintenance Ensuring we can place localized signage in our areas specific to local needs Organizing public open days to teach fire safety, allow community cohesiveness and recruit new members School and kindergarten visits And much much more.... All the monies received by each brigade is accounted for and all undergo annual external financial audits as well as annual budget submissions. The monies we receive is always where possible, spent in our local community supporting local businesses and allows us to engage in community support to everyone that supports you. We are proud to volunteer, and you can be proud that the Gold Coast has a fantastic, dedicated and professional group of volunteers ready to respond 24/7. We are supported by the State Government but there is a shortfall in funding and the GCCC have always helped by providing a levy to help maintain and enhance our volunteer brigades. It is the best way that has supported us to do what we do for many years and this is all done for $1 a year by the ratepayers. The councils decision to remove a $1 levy for this vital service does not make sense. We are pleading for $1 a year from each property to help you, the community be safe. Thank you for your support Gold Coast.

05.01.2022 Prepare yourself...your about to see some awesome training. Little fella getting started early and will be ready for Fire Season in a few years

05.01.2022 Gold Coast Rural Fire Brigade Group and the 15 Volunteer Fire Brigades we represent wish to thank the community for the amazing support and feedback we have rec...eived over the past few days. The below news article was published in todays Gold Coast Bulletin. Gold Coast City Councils stance on the issue is that our funding should be a state government responsibility, at present there is no commitment from state to take over our funding. We ask for the local community to keep asking why the decision was made to remove the $1 special Levy with no consultation with the rate payers of the Gold Coast. See more

05.01.2022 **This bushfire warning is no longer current please refer to the QFES Facebook page for updated information** SPRINGBROOK bushfire as at 8.10pm Thu 27 Aug Que...ensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) crews are on scene at a bushfire burning near Springbrook Road, near the Springbrook Visitor Centre, south of the intersection of Pine Creek Road. There is no threat to property at this time, but smoke may affect the immediate and surrounding area. Affected residents should close windows and doors and keep medications close by if suffering from a respiratory condition. Smoke can decrease visibility, so motorists should drive with caution and to conditions. If residents are concerned their property is under threat, they are advised to call Triple Zero (000) immediately. See more

05.01.2022 Please Slow Down when approaching our firefighting appliances with flashing red and blue lights. Firefighters will be working in that area and we please ask everyone to consider their safety whilst they are protecting our communities.

03.01.2022 Great training tonight with our neighbouring Brigades.

02.01.2022 Each year at ANZAC day we have our annual class photo but due to COVID we were unable to meet. Tonight at our AGM we had #MarkBoothman take our official Brigade photo for 2020. Firstly our 8 officers and then our large group of Volunteers. Thank you to everyone that has supported our Brigade over the last 12 months. We are very proud of our service to the community and will continue to respond 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

02.01.2022 There are some people you should call in an emergency, and others you definitely should not! You should always phone Triple Zero (000) immediately in an emerge...ncy. If you see smoke or fire, regardless of the size, do not assume someone else will alert QFES. Nearly all large fires were once little fires and we consider these an emergency act quickly as time is of the essence! Remember, do NOT phone your local Fire Warden, Rural Fire Service brigade or Fire & Rescue station. These firefighters may not be in the station and this delays any response to the incident. The number to ring is Triple Zero (000).

01.01.2022 This is the worst kind of politics. If anyone is wondering why average Australians have lost trust in government, the biff over funding of our hardworking volu...nteers in the Gold Coast Rural Fire Brigade Group is the #1 example. Just $1, a single gold coin from every ratepayer has been collected every year for years by Gold Coast City Council and given to our local rural fire brigades. A result after the first biff on funding back in 2013/14 when the State Government introduced their own levy for fire and emergency services and the Council asked for clarity on it with no success. The City of Gold Coast is now ruling it a State Government responsibility and cutting the $1 contribution by ratepayers. Simply, the State Government hasnt come to the table to settle an issue bubbling for years and once again it boils over to the detriment of our volunteer firefighters. After such a devastating fire season, youd want to hope Council exhausted every alternative settlement route with the State before cutting the local firefighters funding off because without any guarantee from the State to now cover this blackhole, it will hurt Council more than it will the State Government in the eyes of voters. Ratepayers are united behind supporting our local rural firies as they volunteer to protect us on the frontlines during brutal fire seasons. The $1 annual fee on our rates notice was the most understandable and accepted item line by ratepayers and even in COVID-19 economic conditions, rural firies should never be the place to make cuts. The window to resolve this and give our local brigades certainty is closing fast and something has to give. With a State Election coming up - this cant drag on into Summer. The timing of this decision by Council is no accident, the two major parties have an opportunity to pledge to resolve this biff at the upcoming election with policy announcements to ensure our local brigades arent left with a funding hole. But its risky, if neither do, it will be etched in the memory of a powerful network of communities built around these brigades, who reach thousands of voters at the drop of a hat. These volunteers dont care about bureaucratic biffs, they just want certainty. They just want someone to give them their bloody $1 dollar back so they can focus on saving lives, property and wildlife. 01.01.2022 With summer starting tomorrow and many grass and bushfires already burning, it's a timely reminder to start preparing for bushfires. While the risk of bushfir...es isn't as high as last summerdue to an active La Niña which suggests wetter-than-average conditions for much of the countryfires will still occur. Southeastern Australia in particular is one of the most fire-prone regions in the world and even short periods of hot and dry weather can increase the risk of fire in summer. Understanding fire weather means you can be better prepared and help you stay safe. Learn more from our blog: http://ow.ly/zFLl50CxDDN
