21.01.2022 Brayden On FIRE Start the report by saying Brayden Ashby has lost at least 10 shots this year, and this will be 2 weekends in a row the young golfer has taken the win. Brayden had 39 points on Saturday and that was good enough to hold through the weekend. Well Done Brayden keep it up. The balls went to Jesse McElhinney, Anthony Jones, Aden Larance all on 37, Keith Flood 34, Kevin Sharp 33 and John Smith with 32 on a C/B. This weekend the final round of the Liberty Cup ...will be played, there are 4 golfers around the same amount of points chasing Stan for the win. You will all need to play your best as it is a stroke event, best scratch will take the win! Presentation Night will be on that evening at the Club, please see Julie or Bill if your a last minute change of mind. 19.01.2022 Medal of Medals Peter Cameron’s medals of medals was played last Saturday with a great field of 22 players. There were 8 players in A grade and 9 in B grade competing for the Medal of Medals. This is pretty good considering we had shut down for a few months which we couldn’t hold our monthly Medals. The winner of the A & B daily comp which will go into next years medals was Patty Cain with a nett 67, runner up was Luke Flood with a nett 70. B Grade saw Brayden Ashby win wi...th a nett 65 very closely followed by John Tilborghs. So the Medal of Medals winners for 2020 was Patty Cain and Brayden Ashby well done, after a very special year of golf! NTP went to Luke Flood, balls went to Dave Stevenson, Jason Mills, Aden Larance, Mick Resch, Kerry Vallette and Yogi Hagemann. A huge thanks goes to Peter Cameron for his continued support to the club. This weekend there will be a stableford played over Saturday and Sunday the comp will be finalised Sunday afternoon. On the 21st we have the last round of the Liberty Cup and Presentation Night. Please put your name down at the Club ASAP. We will begin playing for hams VERY soon there will be a program in the club to reflect what will be happening through December. And remember if you can lend a hand at the club doing some mowing or whipper snipping please see Kieth. Thanks from all the way in QLD Zoe!

16.01.2022 MINNIE'S GOLF REPORT for 17th Feb Are we all ready for Open Day? Tee-off time is 10 am and we are hoping for a good roll-up of players for the 4BBB Event which is sponsored annually by Lou Coulton and Judy Williams. This is a very popular competition with some extraordinary scores recorded after the draw for partners is completed. Individual scores are then added together to arrive at the final result. I was a bit concerned about the weather but it appears now that only 0.5m...l will fall on Sunday. However, the weatherman is predicting a total of 80mls between now and Sunday which will make the going a little heavy, nothing that we can't handle. Last week we had a small field of girls and the winner was Julie Shinton. Congratulations Julie. Tomorrow, another Stableford with results in next week's Times. Wednesday 3rd March - a Stableford event sponsored by Krystie's Quality Meats. Saturday 6th - Coonabarabran Fourball Medley Stableford. This event is organised by the Members. Wednesday 10th - 4B Stableford Aggregate - draw for partners. This competition is sponsored by Nell McArtney. This event is also very popular with players. Humour: A bad-tempered golfer named Smythe was advised by his psychiatrist to continue to play golf but without a ball. He was to imagine hitting every shot. The day after his session with the doctor he met another golfer and the two decided to play a round. Smythe warned his new friend of his unusual style of game and the friend said it was okay because that was how he played too. After 17 holes, each had made 17 straight birdies and the match was tied. "I'm really going to belt this one" said Smythe. And he did, hitting a 400-metre drive on the par five final hole. "Well, I'm really going to belt this one too," said the friend. And he also hit a 400-metre drive. Smythe studied his second shot. He'd use an eight iron and the ball would bounce on the green twice then dive into the hole - which it did - for a double eagle. "Beat that!" he yelled. "I already have," replied the friend ,"you hit the wrong ball." ...................Minnie and her mate. See more

11.01.2022 MINNIE’S GOLF REPORT 2nd Dec On a very pleasant morning a group of lady golfers lined up to win the first Christmas Ham. All were very serious and being careful not to upset anyone with uncontrollable sneezes, coughs, giggles or other distractions, in other words, being good sports. Jan came in with an excellent score of 38 Stableford points and was out on her own to win on the day. Trying her best to catch up was Doreen Searle with a score of 34 points, next came Judy Wil...liams, 33 points and Cis Bruce, 31 points. The weather was, as I mentioned earlier, very nice for 15 holes leaving the final 3 holes a little bit on the wrong side of hot as the clouds had cleared and the lovely cool breeze gone. However, we found the comforts of the clubhouse instantly revived our spirits. Tomorrow we play a Stroke event for the second Christmas Ham. Results in next week's Times. Saturday 12th, Sunday 13th & Wednesday 16th - third and final Christmas Ham, a Par event. Good luck to all competitors. Lisa Doolan to do office duty on the 16th. We have now officially ended our 2020 program and look forward to 2021, hopefully welcoming new players and also to improving our own game. Saturday 19th - a Christmas Two-person Ambrose event organised by the members. Our two lady finalists, Lisa Doolan and Kerrie Ward, contested the 'Let's Play Keno' final at the beautiful, but testing course at Bonville. I'm advised that they had a fabulous time, loved the course, enjoyed the company and hope to, one day, play there again. At this point in time on behalf of the lady golfers, I would like to thank the members, the bar staff, the grounds staff, our players, our sponsors for their ongoing support over the years, Lyn, Max and staff of the Times for publishing my ramblings and wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas. Humour: Alice and Ted went snowboarding and Ted brought along a thermos. Alice had never seen one and asked what it was. "It's a thermos," replied Ted. "The man at the shop told me it's used for keeping hot things hot and cold things cold." "Sounds great." said Alice. "What have you got in it?" "Three coffees and an icy pole," said Ted. *********** "Mummy" the little boy said, "when I was on the bus with Daddy this morning, he told me to give my set to a lady." "Well, you've done the right thing," his mother said approvingly. "But I was sitting on Daddy's lap," the boy added. *********** Things you never want to hear at the tattoo parlour: "Eagle? I thought you said beagle." "Boy, I hate getting the hiccups." "We ran out of red so I used pink." "Two O's in Bob, right?" "I bet you can't tell I've never done this before." "Anything else you want to say? You've got plenty of room back here." .....................Minnie and her mate. See more
08.01.2022 MINNIE'S GOLF REPORT 4th November we played a Stableford event which was won by Kerrie Ward with a great score of 37 points. Balls were won by Lou Coulton, 35 points, Julie Shinton, 33 points and Lou Dowsett, 32 points. There was a good field of players enjoying the course that looks a picture with well covered fairways and well cared for greens. Tomorrow we play another Par event. Results in next week's paper. Wednesday 18th - a Stableford event with Kerrie Ward doing of...fice duty. We expect another good roll up of players to benefit from the fresh air and 18 holes of pleasure. Presentation night is looming and the club is asking for players to advise Carmen or Gabriel if they will be in attendance for catering purposes. Keep in mind that our Christmas Ham runs are due to commence on 28th, 29th November and 2nd December. We are keen to have as many players as possible competing in the Stableford event. Humour: A young man gets a job as a circus roustabout. The circus owner, thinking he might be able to recruit him as an assistant lion tamer, takes him to the practice cage. The head lion tamer, a beautiful young woman, was just starting her rehearsal. As she entered the cage, she removed her cape with a flourish and, standing in a gorgeous abbreviated costume, motioned to one of the lions. It crept towards her, licked her knees and rolled over twice. "Well" said the owner to the young man, "think you could do that?" "I'm sure I could, sir," said the young man, "but you'll have to get that lion out of there." ............Minnie and her mate. See more
05.01.2022 MINNIE'S GOLF REPORT for November 18th CIS BRUCE HAD A GOOD WEEK! 18th November the ladies played a Stableford which was won by Cis Bruce with an excellent score of 38 points. Well done Cis. Ball winners were Lou Coulton with another good score of 36 points followed by Doreen Searle, 31 points and Julie Shinton returning a score of 29 points. Cis also did very well at Presentation Night taking home the Vardon trophy and the most reduced handicap for the year prize, not to m...ention being the B grade Champion for the year. If you have a yen to see a beautiful style of golf, make it a point to observe Cis in action. It became an expensive day for some golfers with at least 4 balls lost in the creek and tell-tale signs of reptile activity across the fairways. Beware. 25th November - another Stableford - results in next week's paper. Saturday 28th, Sunday 29th and Wednesday 2nd December is our first Ham Run - a Stableford. Doreen Searle to do office duty on the 2nd. Saturday 5th, Sunday 6th and Wednesday 9th, a Stroke event for our second Ham. Jan Keppie in the Chair on the 9th. Humour: In my hand I hold a ball, white and dimpled, rather small. Oh, how bland it does appear this harmless looking little sphere. By its size I could not guess the awesome strength it does possess but since I fell beneath its spell I've wandered through the fires of hell. My life has not been quite the same since I chose to play this game. It rules my mind for hours on end a fortune it has made me spend. It has made me yell, curse and cry, I hate myself and want to die It promises a thing called par, if I can hit it straight and far. To master such a tiny ball should not be very hard at all, but my desires the ball refuses and does exactly as it chooses. It hooks and slices, dribbles and dies and even disappears before my eyes. Often it will have a whim to hit a tree or take a swim. With miles of grass on which to land it finds a tiny patch of sand Then has me offering up my soul if only it would find the hole. It's made me whimper like a pup and swear that I will give it up and take to drink to ease my sorrow but the ball knows....I'll be back tomorrow. ............Minnie See more

03.01.2022 Golf Report 31st October and 1st November we played a Stableford with 25 players. The winner of the Competition, coming back from his injury earlier in the month, with a solid 36 points was Kerry Vallette. Closely followed by J Kinsela, N Percival on 35 and a few more on 34 and the ball pool finishing at 33 with J Tilborghs. Coming up we have a busy month. This Saturday will be Peter Cameron’s Medals of Medals and Monthly Medal. There is a strict 11am tee off please due ...to the club holding a Spreading of Ashes of our past member and Board member Rob Stinson. All members, family and friends of Rob are invited to the 5th fairway at 10am where we will farewell Rob. Tee off will commence after this, we hope to see everyone here. On the 21st the last round of the Liberty Cup will be held. This is going to be an interesting end to the exciting event, as there are a number of golfers that could take the title out. Presentation Night will be held that night, please put your names down at the club if you are coming. Please don’t forget to help the Club out by supporting the Meat Tasting events that will be coming up. We have now funded our new tables and move onto upgrading our mower which is falling to bits! If all our members could please help us by supporting this it would mean a lot to the Club financially. Without a mower we will continue to play in long grass! Thanks Zoe
03.01.2022 2020 Liberty Cup Winners This has been one of the stand out events for this year, and we first we thank our local Liberty Fuel for their Sponsorship, we hope they come on board next year as it’s been an exciting new event and very well received, thanks to Yogi for coming up with the idea. We have played a 4bbb, Canadian Foursomes, 4bbb multiplier, Ambrose and to finish a Stroke event. A draw for partners in all events except the last kept it very interesting and being able ...to drop your worst score also helped if you had played in all 5 events. It came down to 4 players a couple shots between them all, they all played together on the last day, knowing that the best scratch score could get them over the line for the win. Frank Nottle took the lead early on the front nine, Stan and Yogi were left scratching their heads in how they could shoot a 39 on the back just to beat him, Zoe conceded that staying drinking beer in the Club was an option! On the back nine, signs were hit, putts were missed and a late windy storm got them on the 16th and 17th too cool them all down. But the winner was; well winners for the 2020 Liberty Cup were a tie, between Stan Capewell and Frank Nottle, Zoe took 3rd. There was 2 points in it! The winner for the daily comp was Keith Flood who shot a 77 off the stick and Brett Ashby 83 on a C/B for runner up from Frank Nottle. Sunday there was a small comp and the winner was Keith Flood AGAIN on 37 points and ball winner was Kerry Vallette on 35 points. This weekend is HAM TIME, with the warmer weather if you need to tee off early please do, the comp will run over the 2 days. If you see a green that needs water please let one of the Board know ASAP, we can lose greens very quickly in this hot weather, so early action is needed. Winner will take the ham. Only 1 ham per person can be won this season. Thanks Zoe See more
03.01.2022 Welcome to 2021.....hope to see you at the golfie soon
03.01.2022 MINNIE’S REPORT Opening Day plus Wed. 24th Feb The lady golfers were thrilled with the roll-up of players for Opening Day. Our A Grade Champion for 2020, Jane McWhirter, did the honours by hitting the first ball off the first tee on the first day of our official program. A Damn good shot it was too - straight down the middle about 250 metres I reckon! We also made very welcome, Courtney Staniforth. It was a great day although a tad hot for the back nine. ... The winners on the day were Lou Coulton and Lisa Doolan returning a combined score of 56 points. New golf balls were won by Cis Bruce, Kerrie Ward, Lisa Doolan, Jane McWhirter and Lou Dowsett. We sincerely thank Lou Coulton and Judy Williams for their sponsorship of this event. Your support is very much appreciated. A delightful afternoon tea was enjoyed by all. We thank the ladies who provided the goodies as we were in need of sustenance after we finished punishing the course. The event for last Wednesday, 24th was won by Cis Bruce, 37 points, and is there a story to tell about this delightful young lady's game. I had the pleasure of Cis's company on the day and on the 16th tee, 304 metres to the hole, I was not sure if she was being very brave or had she hit a wild drive as her ball sailed straight into a thicket of trees. We stood together waiting to hear the 'clunk' of the ball hitting a tree. Nothing! Proceeding on down the fairway looking in all directions to find her ball. No luck. 100 metres from the green in the middle of the fairway, there it sat. Her second shot hit the only tree in sight, admittedly it did overhang the fairway. Her third shot skittered across the grass burning a track to the green when it stopped 11 metres from the hole on a raised, mounded green. She sank the putt adding 3 points to her score. Balls were won by Donna Salisbury, Doreen Searle and Kerrie Ward. Tomorrow we will play a Stableford sponsored by Krystie's Quality Meats. Results in next week's Times. Saturday 6th - Coonabarabran Fourball Medley Stableford. This event is organised by the members. Wednesday 10th - 4B Stableford Aggregate, draw for partners. This event is sponsored by Nell McArtney and always brings out a lot of competitors. Humour: Our Priest suddenly became ill and asked his twin brother, also a Priest, to fill in for him and conduct a funeral mass scheduled for that very same day. It was not until the brother was accompanying the coffin down the aisle, however, that he realised that he had neglected to ask the sex of the deceased. This was information that he would need for his remarks during the service. As he approached the first pew where the deceased's relatives were seated, he nodded towards the coffin and whispered to one woman, "Brother or Sister?" "Cousin" she replied. .............Minnie and her mate. See more
02.01.2022 HOT WEATHER - HOT SCORES. Ladies report 25th November Lou Coulton stunned the field returning a brilliant score of 41 points in last week's Stableford. Well done Lou, back in top form as our official program comes to a close. Ball winners were Cis Bruce and Colette Tink both returning a score of 32 points and Kerrie Ward, 30 points. Tomorrow we will play another Stableford for a Christmas Ham. Results in next week's paper. 5th, 6th and 9th December - a Stroke event for the...Continue reading
02.01.2022 12th and 13th December Doc Antaw memorial Ham run. Saturday and Sunday, 18hole Stableford. Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd - HAMS!!! Just in time for Christmas. We thank Antaw Family for thier continued association with the Club.
02.01.2022 Can you please put your name down at the club asap if you are attending. Numbers are needed for catering
01.01.2022 WOMEN’S PAR CHAMPS for 2020 Eight lovely ladies participated in the Par Championships on Saturday. It was a lovely day and the scores were pretty good. The Scratch winning team was Jane McWhirter and Natasha Noakes with a score of -9. Well done girls. Julie Shinton and Kerrie Ward were the winners of the Handicap event scoring +5, one plus in front of Jan Keppie and Doreen Searle, +4. Lisa Doolan and Lou Dowsett scored +2. Afternoon tea was supplied by Jane, Natasha and ...Lou Dowsett and enjoyed by the rest of the players. Thank you girls. A little diversion from the game was the sighting of baby galahs on the second fairway. Gorgeous little things apparently on their first flight. It seemed a bit daunting for one as it sat sadly on the grass while it's siblings flew around our heads having a great time. The course was a little bit of a challenge with the fairways showing a healthy growth of grass. Putting for some was pretty trickey, usually too short or, overcorrecting, too long. We still cannot touch the flagstick or the sand trap rake, keeping the 1.5metre distance from each other as requested by our leaders. Last Wednesday we played a Par event won by Doreen Searle with an 'All Square' score. Balls were won by Kerrie Ward - 1, Jan Keppie, -2 and Julie Shinton, - 3. Tomorrow we will play a Stableford event. Results in next week's Times. Saturday 7th, Sunday 8th and Wednesday, 11th is a Par event. Jan Keppie to do office duty. Humour: Trying to iron out problems in her love life a woman went to see a marriage counsellor. He asked many questions but was unable to fathom the source of her difficulties. Finally he inquired whether the woman ever watched her husband's face while making love. The woman said that she had once, but he had looked extremely threatening. The counsellor sensed a breakthrough. "You've seen his face only once while making love," he said. "That is unusual. Why do you think he was angry?" "Well" replied the woman, "he was looking through the bedroom window at the time." ******* The barmaid at our golf club named a drink Lilac Crazy after one of the members. Every time the member came to the nineteenth hole, that's exactly what he did. ...........Minnie and her mate. See more
