25.01.2022 This is a natural environment for many native fish incuding jungle perch, rainbows, blue eyes, terrapin turtles, eels and a plethora of coppepods, reptiles, mosses and ferns, as well as decaying vegetation which makes for poor visibility but is good for the life cycle of this amazing place

24.01.2022 So the growth is now accelerating with the cooler water temps, but sadly so is the black beard algae which never really goes away. I havent trimmed any plants for a good month so it might be needing one soon.

24.01.2022 Plant growth is accelerating now the tank has finally settled down since the substrate change.

22.01.2022 Well the ada soil is proving to be good for some plants and others just stay pretty slow growers... there is dwarf val clumping already and the eriocaulon lividum is doing well. Mosses are requiring more attention as they are magnets for algae and detrius. I lost most of my groundcover plants due to melting but there are a few tiny plantlets that survived so it will be a while before my carpet grows. I think 3 more months and it should be at the right stage for competition.

22.01.2022 Also very excited to share that my Echinodorus Belheri has about 6 plantlets growing fast so there will be a few give aways when I do the tear down. Also have lots of Windelov Java Fern to give! Watch my page in the coming weeks for details.

21.01.2022 So I watched all the ADA footage on how to get the best look out of the new Aquaoil and came up with this layout which has already transformed my tanks look. I simply poured in the bags of amazonia, (after preparing my base with the 5 ADA powders) and heap the soil toward the back of the tank to create a slope. Then place the driftwood in the middle of the slope and backfill pushing the highest parts back toward the middle of the tank. The higher terrace in the back of the t...ank will be for planting Swords and Stem plants for a nice background. The driftwood peices I used were already planted from the old scape so I just laid them down to create one long peice like a retaining wall and filled in the gaps with some Windelov Java ferns and spare chunks of driftwood. I have also planted my crypts on either side of the planted wood the foreground is sparsely planted as i had removed all my old groundcovers... Once the tank has settled I will aquire some Riccia, Glosso and HC, which are all plants that I have had difficulty keeping in the past with my old riversand, but I am interested to test ADAs promises that rare plants will thrive in their soil.

20.01.2022 just finished this fornights waterchange.. got some good growth on the java ferns now as well as the water sprite going nuts.=) Got baby water sprites too if anyone is interested

20.01.2022 Waiting on my ADA Products to arrive... Got Amazonia substrate and the ADA substrate additives coming to me. Once I get them I am going to pull down my tank and move it into the lounge room. Cant wait to have a dark substrate. Good chance to rid my tank from this dreadful brown fuzz algaes too.

19.01.2022 Trimmed the plants and cleaned the glass..gave it all a good clean on my weekend.

19.01.2022 Letting it all grow out

19.01.2022 waterchange time this arvo... going to try and get a timelapse video of it all so it should be ready to post later today

18.01.2022 Boiling up my latest find of driftwood in preparation for this years rescape. Looking at doing the bonsai tree style with these peices, maybe even adding in a few rocks.

18.01.2022 Beneath all the algae was beautiful plants patiently growing and waiting for me to attack the horrible competition. Planted tanks thrive on the same environment as algae so its always a fighting battle to give the plants the upper hand.

17.01.2022 with the cooler weather soon to come I am looking forward to growing some subwassertang and cleaning up the mosses.

17.01.2022 I have 11 free eriocaulon lividum pups to give away. 5 are ready to go now with roots. the other 6 will be ready in a couple of weeks. can post around oz.

17.01.2022 Got home from work tonight and the water is clearing up! Tomorrow is looking good for first photos of my new ADA scape

14.01.2022 Trying out some new plants this summer. Going for a bit more red/yellow tone to balance out the jungle of green.

13.01.2022 Today is the day I tore down my old substrate. Got the ADA Amazonia in and its looking good. It was a messy and time consuming job but it will be definetly worth it in a few months once the plants fill back in. Will post pics soon as the water clears up as its still very cloudy from the refill, which is typical of aqua soil.

12.01.2022 Going back to dwarf hair grass as I like the look and its easier to maintain. Also getting in some water sprite and wisteria to help with nutirent uptake and these two plants multiply rapidly once established so plenty of baby plants will be coming soon.

12.01.2022 It is nice to see all the plants are doing well, and the hygrophila pinnatifida didnt melt on me this time :)

12.01.2022 From two weeks ago to today I have seen my tank have less algae and more plant growth, after installing a circulation pump, using Liverpool creeks all in 1 high light ferts, and the cooler weather, its all growing how it should again.

11.01.2022 Boiling up my latest find of driftwood in preparation for this year's rescape. Looking at doing the bonsai tree style with these peices, maybe even adding in a few rocks.

10.01.2022 Got the hair grass (eleo belem), some riccia and tonina planted this morning. Starting to build a good selection of plants again :)

09.01.2022 Sadly I lost my last Bolivian Butterfly a couple of weeks ago, but now the warmer weather has kicked in my discus are going to have a better chance to become good parents, and they are proving to be good so far with this latest batch of eggs laid by the original blue pair. I guess these two are gonna be inseperable.

09.01.2022 Spent the afternoon looking at Dexion shelving as my timber stand is showing signs of old age not to mention the water damage that came from the tiny splashes my sump sometimes creates. It is expected to be expensive but dexion can handle up to 2.4 tonnes which is way better that the racking available from bunnings and masters. I think this might be my Christmas present to myself lol.

08.01.2022 Did a re positioning of the driftwood and removed the mini limnophila sp out due to brown fuzz algae taking over the lower parts of the plant. The brown fuzz algae came from my driftwood so that was removed and scrubbed as well. Determined to keep the healthiest tank possible I am now running a Twinstar Super S to keep disease and algae at bay.

06.01.2022 sorry about the delay in posting the timelapse video...here it is

05.01.2022 Free to a good home, Live Aquarium plantlets cultured in my own aquarium. I live in Port Douglas and can post to most places in Qld. 5 Baby Echinodorus bleheri which is undemanding and beautiful (and grows very large!). A nutritious bottom promotes growth, but the plant needs pruning to prevent it depriving plants underneath of light. Echinodorus bleheri does well even in poorly illuminated aquariums, as it grows towards the light. It is a hardy and easy solitary plant for bo...th beginners and the more experienced with quite large aquariums. 10-12 Baby Windelov Java Fern Lace Leaf Easy growing rosette fern Place from Foreground to Midground Bare Roots must remain exposed. Its finely branched leaf tips make it one of the most beautiful aquarium plants. A hardy and easy plant for both beginners and the more experienced. Best results are obtained by planting it on a stone or tree root. If planted in the bottom the horizontal rhizome must not be covered. This plant is not eaten by herbivorous fish. And one stem of the Wisteria, also known as the Water Wisteria, is an undemanding, extremely attractive aquarium plant. The lace-like leaves vary in appearance under different conditions. If the water is colder, they will be small, and lobed in appearance, instead of pinnate. If insufficient light is provided, they will only be slightly pinnate. Also included is some stray clumps of Eleocharis Belem which is a new addition to the Hairgrass family from Japan. This very low-growing species forms many runners close to the parent plant, forming a very dense carpet and requires a nutrient rich substrate to thrive.

05.01.2022 New plants from Liverpool Creek Aquarium. Also doing a comparison pic in two weeks time to see how fast these new plants will grow. Now commenced the dosing of Liquid NPK and Micromix also now available at very reasonable prices from Liverpool Creek Aquarium. Lovely Purple Brown stems of Limnophila Hipporuides and carpets of green Helanthium bolivianum to look forward to,

04.01.2022 This pic was taken this morning after lights on. A lot clearer than yesterday, but still taking time to adjust. I went pretty hard on the plant cutting but am still confident in lush new growth from the new ADA Aquasoil. For those who want to know I have been running RO water into the tank for 14 hrs a day to help clear up the cloudiness and assist in dispersing the overload of plant nutrients that are typically realeased into the water column after initial installation of the aquasoil.

04.01.2022 Did a lazy vacuum and waterchange today with my sump doing the filling/draining and it was good to see the plants are getting bushier. Got some bio pro for plants coming soon as i have lost all my HC and Glosso .. it melted away somehow... although some HC I put into a small pot is growing outside with a glass jar over the top :) once it gets nice and bushy I will transfer back to the tank.
