21.01.2022 Here is an interesting article on the results from a trial in the Somerset town of Frome in the UK. The provisional data appears to show is that when isolated people who have health problems are supported by community groups and volunteers, the number of emergency admissions to hospital falls spectacularly. While across the whole of Somerset emergency hospital admissions rose by 29% during the three years of the study, in Frome they fell by 17%. Another example of the power of community. 17.01.2022 This article suggests students should consider living in a housing co-op as they provide an easy escape from the frustrations of traditional student housing, offering affordable living, an open-minded, an inclusive atmosphere and a democratic system that puts members in charge of their own house decisions. https://cstu.io/4bb520

14.01.2022 Sociocracy is a governance system, just like democracy or corporate governance methods. It’s best suited for organisations that want to self-govern based on the values of equality. Some people refer to sociocracy as Dynamic Self-Governance or simply Dynamic Governance. The Sociocracy Consulting Group is running an online Foundations of Sociocracy Course starting 28/1/21 that will teach you the essential foundations of the Sociocratic Circle Method (SCM). The staff at Co-operation Housing and many of our member residents have completed this course and can highly recommend it. The course fees are also very affordable for individuals and small organisations. To book follow the link. https://cstu.io/978014 #sociocracy

11.01.2022 Here is new report by the Business Council of Co-operatives and Mutuals (BCCM), which describes how the natural resilience of co-operative and mutual businesses has helped them to react positively to the challenge of Covid-19, by keeping true to the purpose of serving their members. https://cstu.io/47cae4 #cooperatives #coops #bccm

10.01.2022 The Heart Foundation asked 2,895 Australians about what matters most to them in making neighbourhoods desirable, liveable and healthy. The findings are presented in their report "What Australia Wants: Living locally in walkable neighbourhoods". We have illustrated the key findings. Interestingly most of these attributes can be found in a typical cohousing community. #healthybydesign #cohousing
