24.01.2022 CWCT Day 5 Mendooran to Ballimore https://www.relive.cc/view/vQvyDk8LNKq... We took the slightly longer and a bit more gnarly route today, a lot less sealed and 10k longer. 23.01.2022 During this Covid uncertain time with regulations changing daily, we have decided to give our week long tours a rest and concentrate on weekend tours. Weekend Tours are easy to organise and easy to can if regulations change. We will strive to hold one once a month with a mixture of supported and self supported gravel and road weekends. Mainly in our area and always the road less travelled. Our last one a couple of weeks ago out to Ballimore was a cracker. ... The next one pencilled in for the 1st of August will be a self supported gravel ride, starting and finishing in Dunedoo with an overnighter in Gulgong. Numbers will be limited for distancing and dining purposes. Interested, get in touch. See more

22.01.2022 Congratulations to Dubbo BUG on being nominated and winning the Bogan Shire Australia Day Community Event of the Year for Loop the Levee, which was held in Ny...ngan on the 30th August 2020. The event was held to give the Nyngan Community an event to look forward to and provide something a bit different after years of drought and, at the time, COVID-19 pandemic. (Ironically, the route had to be slightly tweaked due to a section being flooded by the Bogan River.) 60 riders, including Dubbo Bicycle Group Members, took part looping the town’s levee bank. Thank you to the Bogan Shire for their support, the Nyngan Golf Club for allowing us to start & finish there which then provided riders food & drinks afterwards. A big thank you to the local volunteers who helped us with marshalling. We are looking at running this event again this year, possibly in August, watch this space.

20.01.2022 Had a Warm Showers guest drop in for an overnight stay. Ganison from the Blue mountains told his wife he was going for a ride and I’ll see you in about a month or two. Plan is to ride to Broken Hill, why, because he has never been there.

19.01.2022 Last day today back into Dubbo from Ballimore. Scones in Wongarbon at Susie’s but you need to book the day before. Contact: 0422 615 945 This relive clip is my ...preferred route from Ballimore to Dubbo as not to duplicate in and out. https://www.relive.cc/view/vxOQn1wd3M6 I put a lot of directional CWC trail stickers up on the route but still a few more to do as we get permission from LGA’S. Some things to keep in mind on this trail and things to consider bringing. Don’t assume any of the small places you will be passing through will have services eg, Goolma. If visiting places for morning tea or lunch stops, call and book at least the day before. Ballimore Hotel (Hair of the Dog Inn) check opening hours for lunch and accommodation. Keep to the designated trail and do not enter private property. Things to bring: A bike lock as all places don’t have designated bike storage (see my FB posts on individual days). Ear plugs always a good idea. Water carrying capacity as it’s getting warmer. Keep in mind from end of October it gets pretty hot out this way. Sun screen, butt cream. When off the trail/road, it is snake season, so keep an eye out and make plenty of noise. THE TRAIL A mix of quiet country back roads. DISTANCE. 55k GRAVEL/SEAL. 35/65 % SIGNAGE. Yes in progress ACCOMMODATION MACQUARIE INN. (plenty more to choose from) Mention the CWCT and get a 15% discount. ROOMS. motel GROUNDS. Good, close to trail. BREAKFAST. Yes WASHING. No FACILITIES. Bistro & bottle shop. BIKE STORAGE. Yes in room. E BIKE CHARGING. Yes in room.

19.01.2022 Another Ebike added to the hire line up, bikes are really hard to get at the moment so always on the lookout. This one,Big T, joins Mervin and Louie, the other 2 Ebikes we have for hire along with the array of trail ready MTB’s.

19.01.2022 Wanting to do the Central West Cycle Trail but don’t have the right bike? That’s where we can help. We have a small fleet of suitable bikes for hire, see examples of just some of what we have below, just waiting to hit the trail for fun & adventures. We have a mix of hard tails, dual suspension & road bikes of varying sizes. Also available if you are in Dubbo for any length of time without your bike and want something to ride.... Contact Mick Cooper for more information, availability and prices.

18.01.2022 Expressions of interest. Anyone that thought they would like to give cycle touring a go, here is your chance to stick the toe in the water. A short one starti...ng and finishing in Dubbo. 160k over 3 days so not too much of an investment in time, just take the Monday off work. Only open to Central West residents for COVID reasons. Leave Dubbo and overnight in Wellington on Saturday with morning tea stop at Geurie. Short ride to the look out at Mt Arthur on the way. Visit Wellington Caves in the van on Sunday morning before heading to Ballimore overnight. Back to Dubbo on Monday morning. Half and half, gravel and sealed back roads. Fully supported for mechanical an physical malfunction. Mtb or gravel bike required, I’ve got some for hire if you are stuck. Probably in the next month or so if we get a bit of interest, only taking small numbers for seats in the van and accommodation at Ballimore. Let me know if interested.

17.01.2022 Day 6 of 6 on the CWCT. Ballimore to Dubbo. 52 k via Suzies for scones. Back home today after a great week. A mix of sealed and gravel today, all quiet country back roads and in great condition.

16.01.2022 3 Day Mini Break Dubbo - Wellington - Ballimore - Dubbo including sections of the Central West Cycle Trail Friday, 16th October to Sunday, 18th October 2020. This is a good introduction to supported cycle touring and to the new Central West Cycle Trail. ... Numbers are limited to 10 so be quick to book a place. Email us at [email protected] for more information and cost. If you miss out this time, don’t despair there will be other mini breaks including some of the other sections of the trail. Suitable bike hire if you don’t have a suitable bike. Contact us at https://www.facebook.com/coopercycletours/

15.01.2022 Off again on a 6 day jaunt around the CWCT with a compliment of 7. Dubbo to Wellington today, bit of a headwind but nice and cool and the gravel roads dried remarkably quickly after yesterday’s rain. Steve Crompton suffered a bit today as his plan came unstuck. Steve is with his wife Chris who is on an E bike, plan was that when Chris flagged out and got in the van, Steve would jump on the E bike, problem was that Chris didn’t flag out and rode the whole 63k.

15.01.2022 RECOVERY TOUR. not sure how long before we get some freedom back but as soon as it’s deemed safe we will be running another cycle tour with the aim of supporting small towns and localities after the onslaught from drought, fires and now Covid - 19. Obviously we can’t give a date or location as it is completely reliant on when we can get back to some kind of normal and also what is still open. When restrictions lift, we will still be adopting the measures that have been in ...force recently as in physical distancing, hand hygiene, etc. possibly even one person per room unless a couple, it will be a bit more expensive but more responsible, it will also mean we will have to limit numbers to probably 10 for accommodation availability. At this stage, just a heads up and possibly something to look forward to so watch this space. See more

14.01.2022 Mystery weekend tour on part of the Central West Cycle Trail. None of the 10 riders knew where we were going last week end on a self supported tour out of Dubb...o, it was a mystery until we turned onto the Ballimore Rd that had no other option. We chose a limited number of riders for distancing reasons at the Ballimore Inn (Hair Of The Dog Inn), couples and singles all had their own rooms 7 in total. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/32865187 https://ridewithgps.com/routes/33191250

14.01.2022 Just one of the services we offer. Luggage transport. In this case, the riders were doing Mendooran to Dubbo, nearly 110k and a lot of it through the Goonoo, just easier if you don’t have to lug it if you haven’t got to. It works out reasonable if you have the numbers to share the cost.

14.01.2022 On a recon for a gravel Tour Of The West. We have been doing this route for about 12 years now and thought we would like to do a gravel version. Work in progress, in my second home tonight, Trundle. Covering most of the stops on the original road Tour of the West including , start and finish from Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo, Naromine, Trangie, Tottenham, Trundle, Parkes, Manildra, Wellington and home. Lots is gravel and big empty skies. ... Stay tuned and watch it evolve. See more

14.01.2022 There has been a fair bit of discussion about public transport to the CWCT from Sydney. Here are a few points to consider. Travelling from Sydney by train (XPT) requires you to box your bike or use your own bike bag, only 5 spots available, less than 20kg with dimensions of 138cm x 75cm x 23cm, my Evoc bag is within those specs. If travelling to Lithgow on metro, you will still need to box it as it needs to be boxed or bagged for the connecting coach trip to your destina...tion. Coach transport, needs to be in a box or bag with the same dimensions as above. 2 spots only available. Dimension of coach luggage door, 95cm high so box or bag can stand up. Dubbo carries 4 x boxes in stock, Central carries boxes (I checked today). You will need to purchase a ticket for you and your bike (booking class BK and will cost $12.10 for your bike) and need to reserve a bike box beforehand. You need to be there at least 30min prior to departure for loading. Phone No. 13 22 32 My opinion on the easiest way to access the trail is. (Only because I can pick you up and store your bag) Aquire a box or your own bag, book yourself and your bike on to the XPT from Central and travel to Dubbo with no connections, I can pick you and your bike up from the station and you can assemble your bike here at the bike shed and ride to your accommodation, a couple close, leave your box or bag here until you return and reverse the process (no charge). Starting from Mudgee or Gulgong or anywhere covered by connecting coach service. Catch the metro to Lithgow and then connecting coach to your destination ( boxed for the coach)

12.01.2022 Loaded up the team bus today with the buddies and drove to Mendooran for a jaunt through the Forest via Dalmallee to Ballimore for a pizza lunch, only 64 k but was getting a bit warm by the time we finished. All in all a great day.

12.01.2022 CWCT Day 4 Dunedoo to Mendooran. THE ROUTE. Quiet back roads except for the last 18k into Mendooran which wasn’t too bad. ... 10.01.2022 ECONOMIC CYCLE BOOSTS MENDOORAN - With a steady flow of cyclists riding the 400km Central West Cycle trail, Mendooran and other localities have benefited econ...omically over the last month and a half On Monday Mike McDonald of Sydney and 5 others landed into Mendooran from Dunedoo. They were booked into the local hotel, purchased food for both the evening and the next day. Unlike those travelling through in vehicles they do not have an Esky load of food at hand so spend in the local towns along the way. The Hair on the Dog hotel at Ballimore reports at least 2 or so groups staying each week, and Mendooran seemed more heavily booked with no closeby towns. For those wanting accommodation the advice is book ahead, especially for the smaller towns. So without a cent of taxpayer money, simply the resources of the Mudgee Bushwalking and Bike Riders Club Inc and that of volunteers a budding new industry has started in the Central West, and putting money into the local economy. Given the big distances everyone can stay distanced with a bit of care. David Allworth See more

10.01.2022 Day 3 of 6 on the CWCT. Great day today weather wise, no wind and no rain. Our Morning Tea stop at Mayfield, Sue and Geoff Raines’s place, had 50mm last night and made for interesting driving in the van.

10.01.2022 Another trail rescue today. Terry’s E-Bike quit at the start at Ballimore this morning, managed to get him going and transport him and his bike to meet up with his mates at Geurie so he could ride into Wellington with them. A couple of things you can do so you won’t need to see me. Make sure your bike is in perfect working order (although this would not have helped Terry) and have it serviced before hand. Know how to change a flat and have the gear to do it. ... Flat protection or tubeless recommend. If you can’t remember when you changed your gear cables last, before the trip would be a good time. Have another form of navigation and don’t rely on the stickers. See more

09.01.2022 LOOK FOR THESE. A couple of riders have said they haven’t seen any directional stickers, they are a bit hard to see until you know where to look. We were a bit... constrained by LGA’S as to what we could use and this was about it, still some approvals to get so work in progress. Keep an eye out on road signpost, not necessarily on the same side of the road you are on. See more

09.01.2022 Day 2 of our 6 day CWCT. Wellington to Gulgong, longest day at 76k. Stiff headwind up the 23 k climb out of Wellington, not steep at about 1.5% but constant. Quick morning tea at the top and into the fun bits.

09.01.2022 TRAIL SUPPORT. Shaun and Gay on their last day on the CWC Trail back to Gulgong. Not much change out of 80k back to Gulgong with the first 20k out of Wellington slightly uphill and a slight headwind and carrying their gear made contacting me for transport to Uamby Rd an easy decision. Basically turning the longest day into the shortest and still getting to ride one of the best sections of the trail. I have also done a couple of mercy drops with spares and tyres as we have... access to mechanical repairs and spare parts. If anyone needs assistance to make their trip either doable or more enjoyable, contact us and we will see what we can do. See more

08.01.2022 Hi Girls. 07.01.2022 We would love to get back out there and continue doing our week long cycle tours but at the moment it’s just a bit uncertain. In the mean time we will be doing more weekend tours, locally and in our area. We did our first one a couple of weeks ago and it was great to get out. Here is a FB snippet. https://www.facebook.com/795836650479395/posts/3241557279240641/?d=n

05.01.2022 Day 4 of 6 on the CWCT. Dunedoo to Mendooran via Cobbora Station for morning tea. 62k. Another cracking day on the trail, it seems the more water, gravel and gnarl, the better.

05.01.2022 Day 5 of 6 on the CWCT. 62 or 52k from Mendooran to Ballimore. Goonoo day today, 4 of us did the gnarly Dalmallee route and picked the others up on the junction of the Denmire trail and Forrest Road. Don’t judge the day by the pics as it was and always is a fantastic ride through there.... https://www.relive.cc/view/vZqNPBrRZGO

04.01.2022 Trail support on the CWCT. picked up Ron and Maz 40k out of Mendooran enroute to Ballimore. Ron scored a flat in his front tubeless and with no means to fix it decided not to go through the Goonoo, picked them up in the van and put 2 shots of latex into both tyres at Ballimore. Worked out well as I caught up with Dan ( the caretaker) for his birthday yesterday.

03.01.2022 Day 3 and home of our mini break 3 day tour. Ballimore to Dubbo via Wongarbon for scones. 54k. What a difference a day makes after yesterday’s stiff headwind. Nice and cool, no wind and no predicted rain.

02.01.2022 A pic from Pre Covid days. Midwest Tour, boys around the barbie at Binnaway Barracks. Oh,Oh,Oh.
