25.01.2022 The Federal Government's COVID-19 Early Release of Super program ends on Thursday, 31st December. Under these arrangements, eligible persons could draw up to $10,000 from their super in 2019/20 provided they were Australian residents and they were unemployed or receiving certain Centrelink payments, were made redundant, or had their work hours reduced by 20% or more. After 1 July, 2020 eligible persons could apply for a second super drawdown of up to $10,000. These payment...s have no tax or other reporting requirements provided people met the eligibility tests. According to Government sources, over 3 million people applied for the early release of super. The average drawdown was $8,300 with the money used to pay down debt, and to pay for everyday living expenses during the pandemic. The ATO was very quick to release the money from super, however it has since announced that it intends to conduct a compliance program to identify persons who have applied for and received, early release of their super, who did not meet the tests. If you, or someone you know, has accessed their super under the COVID-19 scheme, and are now unsure if they were eligible at the time, please have a chat to us on (07) 4972 6727, or email us at [email protected]. 20.01.2022 Changes to the rules for depreciable assets in residential rental properties were introduced in 2017. Basically, if your rental property purchase occurred on or after 9 May 2017, unless the property is brand new, landlords can no longer claim a tax deduction for the existing assets therein. So items like stoves, air-conditioners, hot water systems, etc. included in the purchase can no longer be depreciated. However the Capital works deduction, which attaches to the building a...nd its fixtures remains. This includes items like built in kitchens and cupboards, bathroom and toilet fittings, fences and retaining walls, etc. The rules around capital allowances and capital works are quite complex, so we would encourage you to seek professional advice before you buy. 15.01.2022 At 5:00am on this day in 1918 the Allied Forces signed an armistice with Germany ending World War I. At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month we will remember them. Lest we forget.

14.01.2022 In November 2017 we offered our services pro bono for a worthy cause. We are delighted to be able to report that, 3 years on, Capricorn First Aid Providers Inc. are going strong, and we were delighted to be able to further assist them with a donation of our pre-loved photocopier. Pictured are Paul and Peter of Capricorn First Aid Providers Inc. who keep us all safe at sporting and community events.

13.01.2022 The run-up to Christmas is usually a hectic time. Aside from the shopping and Christmas parties, there are deadlines to meet and loose ends to tie up. Once the big day is over many of us are able to slip into a more relaxed mode, but as your focus turns to leftover Christmas dinner and pudding, or lounging on the beach, why not spare a thought for your financial situation? With everyone else relaxing, the Christmas holiday period can be an ideal time to check your finances an...d start the New Year with everything in order and heading in the right direction. If a rainy day puts a dampener on your holiday fun, why not dip into the filing cabinet and tidy up the paperwork? You may be able to get rid of old documents you no longer need (make sure you dispose of them securely), find new opportunities, or discover important things that you’ve overlooked. Is your cash working hard enough for you? Has your portfolio become unbalanced? Are your personal insurances all in order? Are you saving enough? So why not make a Christmas resolution, give our office a call, on 07 49726727, and make an appointment to review your financial situation. 04.01.2022 Accidents and illnesses seem to happen when you least expect them, leaving you unable to work and support your family. That’s where income protection can step in to help you continue to pay the monthly bills and maintain your lifestyle while you are unable to work due to illness or injury. Income Protection is designed to pay you a benefit if you are unable to work for a period of time because of illness or injury. It insures you for a set level of income (often 75% of your ...pre-tax income) and will continue to pay you until you can return to work or for the agreed period whichever is sooner. The amount you pay is also tax deductible - offsetting the actual cost to you by 32.5% to 45% depending upon how much you earn. Income Protection is about taking the financial pressure off so you can concentrate on getting back on your feet. We can help you with your income protection needs and find the right policy for you.
