25.01.2022 As of this week we have officially moved to The Bird House, our new ultra-modern lifestyle studio in Melville, about 15 minutes from our former South Fremantle location. An exciting space, this will enable us to create some brand new contemporary styles of imaging, while still producing the beautifully lit and detailed studio-style images for which we are famous! Sadly, weve said "goodbye" to our South Fremantle building, after almost thirteen years and some six thousand ph...oto shoots. Put simply, our lease was up and the building was being sold :( Good news though...all of our contact details, including our phone number, website and email addresses remain exactly the same, as does our commitment to great customer service and our craft!

24.01.2022 Were back at work! If you had a shoot booked or a voucher, please contact us to book back in! All vouchers which were valid before we closed have been extended, and all deposits have been carried forward. Even better, youll be able to have your shoot in our amazing super-modern Melville studio! Some restrictions over hair and makeup still apply, but this is the time to book, as were expecting them to be lifted in the next few weeks.... Really looking forward to seeing you all soon. 21.01.2022 Three of the many things we love. 1) Natural, genuine portraits 2) Including props that have meaning 2) Geeking out on photography gear! So, 1) Katrina looks natural and gorgeous here, doesnt she? Instead of forcing a smile for portraits, its much better if we can just have fun. and 2) Katrina loves photography, so why not include something cool? We just happened to have this lying around the studio. Which brings me to...... 3) Ok. Serious geek-out time: Thats a 1954 Linhof Technika in Katrinas hand. The Technika is a German camera which was first manufactured in 1934, and versions of it are still in production, meaning that it has the longest production run of any camera in history! The Technika is a folding "field" camera which you focus by moving the lens forward and backward on rails. Its easiest to focus if you have a tripod and a black cloth over your head, and cleverly, you can adjust focus not just in the usual forward-and-backward plane, but also side-to-side and top-to-bottom. (Google "Sheimpflug principle", if you need to know more, and lets face it, if youre still reading this, you do!). The Technika is usually single-shot - it takes one piece of film which is 100x125mm, compared to normal film, which is a puny 36x24mm. But, it can be converted to 150 megapixel digital, even this sixty year old example! Want a new one? The body alone will set you back ten grand or so...

17.01.2022 Im writing to let you know that Ive made the decision to suspend all forward shoots and viewings. This is not an easy thing for us to do, but it is the right thing to do for customers, staff, the community and the health care workers who are on the front line. On Thursday last week, we implemented, and have been practicing, strict social distancing measures at Cooper Studio.... On the weekend I worked with my wife, a prominent Infectious Diseases specialist, to call on the State Government for a comprehensive lockdown in WA. Coming back to work this week, it started to feel more and more inconsistent for us to carry on, while outside of work I was calling for tougher measures to be taken. We will still be available on the phone and by email and you can still expect great customer service. We will contact you when were back on deck to rebook your shoot: you wont lose your deposit or any gift certificate credits. Our production and admin teams will continue working (either from home or *all alone* in one of our studios) and existing customers can expect their work to be finished within the agreed time frame. On a personal note, I have deep connections in the medical community, and in the last few days Ive seen how worried doctors are becoming. Virtually every doctor is now calling for a lock down of all non-essential services, including schools, and non-essential businesses like this one. As a community we can still flatten the curve and save many, many lives, but the window to do so is closing rapidly. It takes around 12 days for social distancing measures to slow the curve, from the time they are started. In that time the number of cases will double three or four times. The time to act is today. Some rules and restrictions will apply, in order to keep everyone safe: Initially, shoots will have a maximum of two participants, to allow for adequate social distancing.... We will only do a maximum of one shoot per day per studio. Studio spaces will be cleaned thoroughly before and after the shoot. For those customers who have hair and makeup booked: At the time of writing MUAs are not cleared to return to work, but may be by May 11. If not, or if you would prefer not to have hair and makeup, we ask that you do your own and: A further credit of $60 will be added to your account, to be used towards images. For families with more than two members, we will wait a little longer before inviting you back in. Deposits and gift certificate credits will be preserved for as long as it takes. Weve been overwhelmed with the support and understanding weve received from our customers during this difficult time, and were looking forward to catching up soon!
