20.01.2022 Looks like some interesting topics at this Field Walk.

19.01.2022 Been a busy couple of days sweeping and inspecting crops. A big turn around for the season after 40-80mm for August. Budworm numbers in Lupin and Canola crops very low after SP anti feed sprays applied in the last month. These crops will still need monitoring for Budworm and DBM which have all but disappeared with the cold weather. Cereal crops are now coming under pressure with leaf and head damage from Budworm. Numbers varying in sweeps from 1-10 generally. The concern is ...the variation in size suggesting damage is likely to get worse if left unsprayed. There is unfortunately no official threshold numbers to work with here but my preference is to control early. Check former stressed areas of the paddock first, typically shallow soils types and gravels as Budworm seem to favour these areas. Lupin and canola stubbles worst but I have still observed damage in wheat on wheat paddocks. Aerial application will be the preferred method of control as it’s the lowest net cost given crop stage. Disease levels generally low although barley with high yield potential or planted into barley stubble requires fungicide to curb STNB activity which is favoured by spring conditions. See more

14.01.2022 A massive thank you to Spike Bothe for all the effort he has put in to getting the community crop to where it is today. He applied 70L of UAN today and with the little showers to wash it in this afternoon will be a great result and push potential along nicely after last weekends 43mm. The Ninja wheat looks very clean for weeds too. Thanks again Spike!!

12.01.2022 A big day today out at Koobabbie Pastoral. Wendy LaGet kindly donated a shed full of wood and old jam posts for the fires at the pub. A massive thanks to the 12 helpers that came out to cut and shift the tonnes of wood. A great community effort that is sure to keep all locals and visitors to the Coorow Hotel warm for years to come! Thanks to Stacey for putting on a couple of frothies after the work was done back at the pub too!
