15.01.2022 We have walls and windows! The rooms are so large and open and so much natural light throughout. Looking really great!

14.01.2022 UPDATE The children have frequently been exploring the Walking Water experiment in groups, individually and with their families. Miss Mell and Miss Manshu combined rooms and sat together in the foyer to discuss what had happened to each coloured water cup. ... Miss Manshu explained that the paper towel they had been using wasnt very absorbent and that this resulted in the water moving very slowly. They then replaced the paper towel with some fresh absorbent paper towel. The next part of the experiment began! The educators and children began discussing what would happen if they placed the paper towel ends in 2 different coloured cups. It was decided that the colours would mix. The children were delighted to see this happening this morning, and some excitedly showed their parents as they arrived to find many different colours.

12.01.2022 Centre wide, the children have been showing great interest in the letters of the alphabet and learning the sounds associated with them. In the Junior rooms, They have been investigating the letters on the wall. This has led to Miss Mell and the children singing the alphabet song while looking at each letter. Miss Mell has extended on this interest for some of the older children by identifying the sounds and pictures that begin with each letter. The children have been heard ...singing and enjoying the alphabet song during morning and afternoon tea times and during play sessions. In the Kindy Room, The children have shown great interest in their name cards. Miss Cathy has been actively encouraging this enthusiasm to identify and trace over each letter of their names on the laminated name cards. While this is an excellent literacy activity, the children have also been developing their fine motor skills. Preschool has finally reached the letter Z! This means that bringing in an item for the letter of the week will finish this week. The children have been very excited each morning as they show the teachers what they have brought from home. Miss Manshu and the children have decided to extend on their well-developed letter and sound recognition by concentrating on writing each letter and focus on this in their own personal books. We also look forward to the Magic of Reading show which will be held on the 22nd of August. This show is aimed to continue to encourage that passion for literacy which we are already seeing in the children here at Coorparoo Child Care Centre!

10.01.2022 Early Childhood Educators Day is celebrated on the 5th of September 2018. This day is set to recognise the hard work and incredible effort our team of passionate and loving educators put in on a daily basis to create environments and provide the beautiful children of our centre with opportunities to learn and grow in all areas of development. Early Childhood Educators Day is a day we enjoy celebrating with the children, and we wish to encourage them to wear their Super Hero capes and masks to help say thank you.

10.01.2022 We are currently making a display to engage children in discussions on what country their family comes from and what makes them and their family special. I would like to encourage you to provide interesting or important information about your familys background, culture and practices. This could be in the form of special celebrations, recipes, information about who is in your family or even your favourite holidays. This information helps our educators have a better understan...ding of each familys culture, which means they are able to support children further with their development and learning. It is also essential in building a sense of identity, belonging and trust. We have sent emails out to all families, if you could please reply to these emails or supply this information to us, it would be much appreciated. When early childhood educators respect the diversity of families and communities, and the aspirations they hold for children, they are able to foster childrens motivation to learn and reinforce their sense of themselves as competent learners. (Belonging, being and becoming: The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia, Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, 2009, p. 13).

09.01.2022 The junior rooms have had quite an interest in shapes the last few weeks. Miss Mell has set up a shape exploration area in the Junior Kindy room after discovering that each morning that the children were drawn to the shape sorters. It was great to see the children using other resources to identify and match the shapes accordingly. 05.01.2022 Last Tuesday 15th May, the children were involved in a fantastic show by Andrew from Little Green Thumbs. Andrew spoke to the children about sustainability and the environment and provided them with a hands-on approach to learn about the different ways we can look after the earth. The children were offered the opportunity to plant their very own tomato plant to take home. This was such a fun filled experience for our centre to be involved in. Andrew also provided us with some more tomato plants for our veggie garden here at Coorparoo Child Care Centre.

04.01.2022 A discovery table has placed in the foyer this week, and the children have been eagerly awaiting what was to happen next! As a centre, educators have been discussing areas of interest and, particularly on the senior side, it was identified that it was time to experiment and explore science while the junior side wished to extend on their colour exploration throughout the experiment. The educators used this experiment called "Walking Water" to introduce the children to basic s...cience concepts. They identified and developed their knowledge of maths, measurement, colours while counting, pouring and mixing. Throughout the day, the educators brought the children back into the foyer to watch what was happening and discussed possible outcomes. The children are very excited about being able to showcase their knowledge in this environment, and we would love to encourage your involvement in this too! If you have any other suggestions for our programmes, please dont hesitate to speak to one of the educators.

02.01.2022 Today, 5th June is World Environment Day, and each room discussed ways to take care of our environment. The Kindy Room and Miss Cathy spoke about reusing items. The discussed what they could make with the recycled boxes on the table, and then they decided to reuse the shopping catalo...gues and scissors to create wonderful pictures. In Preschool, Miss Manshu, Miss Nancy and the children drew colourful pictures of trees and then decided to use sticks collected from outdoors to make their own tree. All of the children were involved in many discussions about sustainability. They were particularly involved in learning about the Three Rs. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
