25.01.2022 Did you remember to floss? You might already know that healthy gums are important for good general health, but did you know gum disease has been linked to Alzheimers Disease? Recent research has found bacterial DNA inside human Alzheimers brain samples. They found toxins produced by Porphyromonas gingivalis, the bacteria commonly found in periodontal disease, inside plaques in the areas of the brain associated with memory and conceptual thinking. While a bacterial hypothesis for Alzheimers is still being investigated, one thing is clear - gum disease is very preventable with good oral hygiene. So keep those bugs at bay by brushing and flossing daily! https://www.newscientist.com//2191814-we-may-finally-know/

22.01.2022 Coorparoo Family Dental is celebrating its 70th Anniversary this Christmas . The practice opened in December 1950, with John Sullivan as the first patient of Dr Foley, the original owner of the practice. In 1990 Dr Ross Martin took over running the practice from the much loved Dr Tyszkiewicz. In March 1990, one of our patients, Moira Niven, asked if we might like some help (it was a particularly busy day on the front desk)... 30 years later Moira and Ross are still work...ing together. We would like to thank our wonderful patients for their support, our fantastic landlords the Sullivan’s and our incredible staff who give so much of themselves to make sure every visit to the dentist is an enjoyable experience. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas Love Coorparoo Family Dental

22.01.2022 #EssentialServices As many of you would be aware, each state in Australia will progressively lockdown to help prevent community spread of COVID-19. Dentistry is considered an essential service. It is important that we keep toothaches away from over-burdened hospitals. This means we will stay open.... We must all play our part in helping our community and our hospitals. We take safety seriously and will be wearing enhanced PPE. For up to date data on COVID-19 infections, and some interesting graphs. Check out https://www.health.gov.au//coronavirus-covid-19-current-si

14.01.2022 It’s Dental Health Week In 2018 Dr John Martin won a grant on behalf of The Royal Hospital for Women Foundation @royalforwomen from the Australian Dental Association @australiandentalassosication, and with the funding was able to write, and with the help of an animator, create this educational video for soon to be parents. In honour of Dental Health Week, we are sharing this on our very first IGTV (). The team at Coorparoo Family Dental are proud of our principle dentist..., Dr John Martin, for creating this for a great cause Our team are often contributing to the community or educating wherever we can and we hope you stay tuned to hear all about it

12.01.2022 #level2 from Monday 27th April From Monday we will be downgrading to level 2 dental restrictions in line with Federal Government advice. This means we can see patients for reasons other than a toothache. We welcome everyone back who... 1) Wants to get something checked. 2) Had a tooth which needed fixing, but we cancelled your appointment during level 3 restrictions. 3) Has an appliance such as a denture, mouthguard or tooth whitening that they would like made or completed. We are still restricted from cleaning teeth, but expect to be able to do so in 2-4 weeks should Qlds excellent data continue. https://infogram.com/1pe27myn65ldpnum2py07kzx9dtl96m1gqr

11.01.2022 Today we celebrated Meredithes birthday! We hope you enjoy your birthday and have a lovely day

11.01.2022 #Level3Precautions #FlattenTheCurve In the interest of our entire community, yesterday we made the EASY decision to defer all routine dental care (checkups, cleans, cosmetic etc.) for at least the next couple of months. Its our version of social distancing. As an essential service we will still be open for any urgent and essential dentistry.... What does that mean? If youre in pain, or have a toothache - you should come in asap. If youve got a broken tooth or facial swelling - dont delay, come straight in. If weve told you about a dental problem that needs immediate fixing - we can still see you. Please dont go to hospital for any dental problems. Our hospitals will soon be approaching capacity. If you have any concern and youre not sure, please call, we are always happy to have a chat. The attached graph is to show the importance of us all making these changes together. Stay safe, Love from CFD

11.01.2022 It takes more than clean hands, it takes a community...

10.01.2022 Today is a special day...on this day in 1990, Moira Niven started working at Coorparoo Family Dental. Moira is incredible. Not only does she have the most beautiful, miniature writing in existence, but she will remember you. And your whole life story. And the names of your friends and family. Moira was a patient at the practice long before she started helping out. Famously in 1990 Moira asked Jenny (Rosss wife and Johns Mum) if she would like some help on the front desk ...as the phone rang and the filing piled up. 30 years later she is still helping. Her kindness and infectious no-nonsense sense of duty continues to make us all stand a little straighter and speak more clearly. Moira, thank you for reminding us all that age is only a number and work isnt work when you love what you do. On behalf of all the patients, staff, friends and family at Coorparoo Family Dental thank you! Below is a photo from Johns visit to Moira today (with social distancing). We dont have a photo from 30 years ago, but we have some gems from over the years for your viewing pleasure! Enjoy the trip down memory lane (and the fashion!) Please share your stories and photos of Moira : ) PS - Moira is not retired, shes signed up for jobkeeper (just made it past the 12month min.) and fully intends to return to work!
