25.01.2022 https://www.rspcaqld.org.au/blog/fact-check/baby-bird-season Have you found a baby bird? If the bird doesnt appear to be sick or injured often the best thing to do is to make a makeshift nest using a bucket so the babys parents can come back and find him. See the article below on how to do this.

25.01.2022 We need to talk. We know some of you may have to self-isolate and others choose to minimise close contact with other humans for a while. Or you might be feeling a little unwell yourself and not want to spread anything. But your pet is unwell, or sore, or itchy...... So were starting phone and online video consults! Sometimes this will be enough to help your pet, and often we will have to fully examine your pet, but then we can work out the safest way to do it, and minimise the amount of time we are spending in face to face contact. Please call or email us to set up a time if you would like to use this service. Usual consult fees apply.

25.01.2022 Courtesy of Lewis Nicholls Dog Training, a fabulous article about socialisation of dogs. We encourage everyone to read it.

23.01.2022 Dr Katherines brother Tom and his friends are about to smash a world record for running one million metres and doing it to raise money for a melanoma centre in Brisbane. If you can help out and support them at all, click here!

23.01.2022 Have you found a baby bird? Unless the bird is injured, often the best thing to do is to try to put it back into its nest (if visible) or if this isnt possible, to place the bird into a bucket and hang it in a nearby tree. Mum and dad will usually hear the babys cries and come back to retrieve their young. This way Mum and dad can teach their baby vital life skills such as how to fly, find food and avoid predators

21.01.2022 Hi again, Obviously we need to take decisions day by day, so feel free to call and work out what is best on that day. We are very happy to schedule phone or Skype consults. And then if we do have to do something or examine your pet that can be as quick as possible. Or if we can dispense a medication or write a prescription we can do that too. Call us to arrange a time. We strongly encourage this wherever possible.... We will likely start using an App for sort Touch base type discussions in the next few days, more on that when we are set up. We can collect pets from your car and return them to you. We will switch leads etc or wipe off carriers on the way in and out. The guidelines for 4 square metres per person in an enclosed area mean we can only have one person in the consult room with the vet. If you have children with you then we will collect your pet from the car and talk at a safe distance outside or via phone after examining your pet. Please keep in mind our staff and other clients when you make a decision to come in. If you feel at all unwell or there has been any chance of contact with a case of Covid-19 then please talk to us to work out the safest procedure for everyone, skinned and furred.

17.01.2022 *Paralysis Tick Alert* With the weather warming up and the recent rainfall ticks will be starting to emerge. Common symptoms of tick paralysis include: -Vomiting or retching -Uncoordination, weakness or collapse ... -Change in usual bark/meow -Difficulty breathing Fortunately, there are products that prevent tick paralysis. For dogs these include: -Nexgard/ Nexgard Spectra (a monthly chew) -Bravecto (3 monthly chew) -Seresto (4 month tick collar) With more people opting to use these newer tick preventives vet clinics and emergency centres have seen a decline in the number of tick cases particularly in the last year or two. For cats the options are a bit more limited but include: -Frontline Spray (applied every 3 weeks) -Seresto Collar (4 monthly for tick prevention) However, a new cat option of Bravecto is very soon to be released. This will be a 3 month spot on that can be used in kittens/cats from as young as 11 weeks of age.

13.01.2022 Hi everyone. In light of the new guidelines for indoor groups, we need to keep it to just one person in the consult room with your pet. If you need to bring kids with you, call us from you car when you get here and we can collect your pet from the car and return them to you when were finished. This also applies if youre not 100% well! Thank you for your understanding. ... On a brighter note, at least we have a bit more parking available!

12.01.2022 Jodies got her first online program up and running! She is also still available for Skype/phone and, in certain circumstances, in person consultations.

11.01.2022 Microchipping- Is your pets microchip up to date? We have had quite a number of strays in lately that have been microchipped but with old contact details. This means the process of finding the owner can be very difficult and sadly at times, not possible. If you have moved houses or changed phone numbers these details need to be changed through your individual pets microchipping company. The company name can be found with your pets original paperwork given to you when the chip was implanted. If you have lost the original paperwork, but know the microchip number, we can also perform a search for you that will bring up the chipping company and you can contact them from there

06.01.2022 Minister Littleproud has announced veterinarians provide an essential service. We will remain open. We will be operating by appointment only. If you are unwell and your pet needs to be seen please try to arrange for someone else to bring your pet in or if this is not possible please phone ahead to work out an alternate arrangement with us. We encourage everyone to call from their cars when they arrive as we are keeping the amount of clients in our waiting room to strictly limited numbers. We are also happy to collect your pet from your car and return him/her to you. If you are needing a script please email us at [email protected] , wait for our reply, and then you are welcome to come in to collect your medication. This greatly reduces face to face contact.

01.01.2022 At Coorparoo Vets, we definitely have a wonderful clientele/pet parent family. I (Katherine) have worked at the same clinic as Margie on this episode, and definitely been subject to comments like those on this episode of Insight. Just as importantly, we also have a boss that has really broken the mould and wants to keep a good balance for all of our staff. (And he doesnt do Facebook, so Im not saying that for points!) But some days are definitely madness-inducing and we k...now were not always perfect. Wed love to do everything we can for nothing, but we also like to eat, have a home, an occasional glass of wine, and keep the clinic lights on! So were always willing to discuss both the "ideal" options and also what can be done for your family and pets specific situation. Please share with us when things go well, and not so well, and we can all work together to keep your fur family happy, healthy and comfortable. See more
