24.01.2022 Taking advantage of a wet afternoon in Brisbane to sort some of the magnificent tree fern and petrified wood we purchased from the estate of the late Norman Donpon back in 2018. Norm was a serious collector and cutter who made all his own machinery and had a wonderful workshop in Meandarra in Qld. If you are ever in Miles in Qld they built a special building to house his lapidary collection in the Historical Village. Many of the pieces we purchased from the estate are the other half of pieces in the museum. The pictures show some of the diversity that is found in Queensland specimens. We are looking forward to getting back to gemshows when possible where we will have lots of similar material.

24.01.2022 After a lengthy break we will be selling at the Redcliffe popup gemshow at the Redcliffe Botanical Gardens this coming Saturday from 9am till 2pm. We will have a much smaller site than usual but we are working hard to make sure we’ve got our usual array of great lapidary rough, some nice minerals, and some fabulous cut stones. We will post some pictures later this week as we sort out our stock.

24.01.2022 We are heading to the Redcliffe Lapidary Club Show this weekend at the new venue Hercules Road State School where we will be trading inside the main hall. In addition to our usual lapidary rough and mineral specimens we will have some great polished faces which will make perfect Christmas presents. Tom and Joel will have a tailgating stall outside on Saturday with rough agate, ribbonstone, thundereggs, prehnite and lots of other goodies so make sure you have a look around outside as well!

21.01.2022 We will have this magnificent and unusual amethyst plate at the Redcliffe Show on the 14th. Even if you aren’t in the market for this make sure you come and have a look. It looks like it’s covered in marshmallows which are actually fluorescent calcite and has both gem quality citrine and amethyst crystals growing everywhere. A stunning piece.

15.01.2022 We are heading to Bundaberg for the Gemfest on November 2 and 3, then to Redcliffe the following weekend and finishing our shows for 2019 with the Suncoast Gemclub Show on the 16th. We recently purchased some nice old Australian material including this great 1850gram piece of Australian Turquoise from Amaroo Station in the NT. Whilst this piece probably won’t make it to the shows we will have plenty of great stock for the lapidary enthusiast including some top quality Australian zircon rough.

12.01.2022 All set up and trading at Bundaberg Gemfest today and tomorrow. Come and say hello!

11.01.2022 After the North Brisbane Lapidary Club Show we will be attending Minerama in Glen Innes from March 13-15 inclusive. This is always a great show with lots of traders held at the Glen Innes Showgrounds. It’s an opportunity for us to spread our stock out and we will have over a tonne of lapidary rough, some great Australian minerals including a lot of Broken Hill pieces and also some of our carefully selected pieces from our recent trip to Tucson. It’s always a bit of a lottery for outside traders as to where we will be located at a show but we will make sure to keep you posted when we are setting up.

11.01.2022 Spent the afternoon sorting some specimens. This is a lovely small Entia Valley, Hart’s Range (Northern Territory) quartz cluster with the most beautiful amethyst sceptre.

10.01.2022 After a busy couple of months we are looking forward to our final Gemshow for 2019 which will be the Suncoast Gemshow at Mooloolaba State School this coming Saturday from 8.30 till 4. We will have lots of new goodies with us including some great uncut thundereggs which would make ideal Christmas stocking fillers! We will also have some nice mineral specimens like this Broken Hill Rhodonite with Galena.

10.01.2022 We will have a couple of hundred slabs of this great Indonesian moss agate with us at the Redcliffe Gemshow on 14 November. Nice lapidary material and hard to get.

09.01.2022 Finalising shopping and packing at the Tucson Gemshows. An incredible range of lapidary material as well as minerals - a series of around 50 concurrent shows varying in size that run in late January and early February each year in Tucson Arizona. I’ve been able to get some excellent quality rough, some of which should be back in time for our first show of the year - the North Brisbane Lapidary Club show to be held 29/2 and 1/3. Looking forward to catching up with all our regulars as well as meeting new customers through what will be a busy year for us with gemshows in 2020.

08.01.2022 We are using this quiet time to continue to sort the material that came from the estate of Norman Donpon, together with another large collection we purchased just before Christmas. It would be a much quicker job if I didn’t keep stopping to admire different specimens along the way.....

07.01.2022 After a successful if quieter Minerama in Glen Innes last weekend we have returned to the news that lots of upcoming shows are being cancelled or postponed. We have always enjoyed the interaction with customers at gemshows and have built a loyal following over the past 6 years that Janelle and I have been running the business. We are looking forward to continuing with gemshows as soon as things get back to normality. In the meantime I’ll be listing some of our Lapidary and faceting material here and on some of the usual selling sites and if there is something you like you can always message us. I’m sure we will all have a bit more time on our hands than usual and I’ll be using it to get organised and to cut and polish, things I don’t normally get time for. Take care and be kind to each other. Cheers, Dave Bissett

07.01.2022 We don’t usually deal in opal but we will have some great stuff with us tomorrow at the Redcliffe Gemshow. I don’t expect it will last long - some beautiful stuff here.

07.01.2022 We recently purchased this secondhand slab saw from the Lismore Lapidary Club after they purchased a new replacement. It’s a 20 inch hydraulic feed with a pump delivering cutting oil directly to the blade. Although only 20 inches it has a great cross table and long travel making it very versatile. We still have our 16 inch saw running as well as a couple of nice 10 inch saws for smaller material. The quiet period between shows has given us an opportunity to undertake equipment maintenance and we should have a great stock of new material when we start doing shows again.
