22.01.2022 It’s that time of year again when we are lucky enough to observe the acrobats of the ocean - humpback whales! If you are out on your boat viewing these large, p...owerful animals make sure you follow the whale watching rules (see diagram). This is for your safety as well as the whale’s. Members of the public or people on private boats must not attempt to swim with whales. If you happen to be in the water and a whale approaches, you must endeavour to keep a minimum distance of 100 metres between yourself and the whale. The opportunity to swim with humpback whales is possible in Ningaloo Marine Park by going out with an operator licensed to participate in the 'in-water humpback whale interaction trial'. These operators have the experience and knowledge to: understand whale behaviour so can find a suitable group to swim with successfully place swimmers in the water to maximise your chances of getting the best in-water interaction possible manage safety when in the water with this marine giant allow the interaction to be on the whales terms so that they are not being disturbed provide information that will increase public appreciation and understanding of humpback whales, the area and how you can contribute to the ongoing protection of our environment Parks and Wildlife Service staff will be out on the water and visiting boat ramps over the coming months to provide information and answer your questions.

Qantas says there will be almost 300 special fares every weekend, from $169 one-way, for selected flights between April and October. It follows a successful 12-week trial of the program between June and September this year, when more than a thousand Perth residents took up the offer.
