24.01.2022 Delighted to see a kestrel back at the station

23.01.2022 Some exciting news for the long-suffering residents of Coral Bay! https://www.mediastatements.wa.gov.au//Funding-to-kickstar

23.01.2022 A great message from our own Frazer McGregor about the need to protect Ningaloo's iconic manta rays ... from us!

23.01.2022 As with most places around the world, Western Australia is also under severe travel restrictions due to the Covid-19 situation. Travel to and within Australia and Western Australia has been restricted, which means that all of our research visitors have had to cancel their bookings, and the Research Station is closed. The tourism hotspots of Northwest WA have all been closed as well, and while many families will be sad not to be able to spend the Easter holidays in this specta...cular part of the world, it's a great opportunity for the local wildlife and habitats to recover from the ever-increasing tourism pressure. We wish all of our visitors and followers well in these uncertain times, and we hope to see you back here once this is all over. Best wishes, Mike van Keulen, Director, Coral Bay Research Station

23.01.2022 Critical new review outlining research priorities for manta and mobula ray conservation, including work from our own Frazer McGregor, and with contributions from Coral Bay Research Station collaborators Amelia Armstrong, Kathy Townsend, Asia Haines, Chris Dudgeon, Mike Bennett and alumna Steph Venables. This important paper will help define future directions in manta ray research globally.

22.01.2022 A field of more than 12 million mushroom corals!! Just a sign there's plenty more research to do at Ningaloo :-)

19.01.2022 Aerial view from Five Fingers Reef to Bateman Bay; the Coral Bay town site is at the top right.

19.01.2022 Best wishes to all our colleagues, visitors and supporters for a happy and productive 2018. We look forward to welcoming you back to further advance our understanding of the natural wealth of Coral Bay.

18.01.2022 Please vote for former Coral Bay Research Station/Murdoch student Taryn Foster, who is a finalist in the Out of the Blue Box Reef Innovation Challenge, with her exciting project to produce 3D-printed living corals! Visit https://www.outofthebluebox.org/finalists/ to vote for Taryn (voting closes November 9).

11.01.2022 A few photos from our October Earthwatch Project Manta expedition. Our enthusiastic volunteers did a great job helping reduce the backlog of manta ID photos, collecting plankton samples and contributing to our shark nursery observations. Thanks to all and thanks to Ningaloo Marine Interactions for their ongoing support for this research.

10.01.2022 Welcome to our Earthwatch team, who are helping us with our shark and ray research this week, as part of Project Manta - The manta rays of Australia.

08.01.2022 Climate change impacts are not straight-forward ... my short field note on multiple natural and climate change impacts compromising seagrass survival at Ningaloo Reef has just come out: http://www.publish.csiro.au/pc/PC18050

08.01.2022 2018 is the 3rd International Year of the Reef (https://www.icriforum.org/about-icri/iyor). At the Coral Bay Research Station we're helping researchers understand what makes the amazing Ningaloo Reef tick. We're looking forward to another great year of Coral Reef research.

04.01.2022 We're hosting the 12th annual Murdoch University Tropical Marine Biology field camp this week, with 34 students studying many aspects of marine biology and ecology in the Coral Bay region.

03.01.2022 It was a pleasure to welcome Murdoch University Vice Chancellor Professor Eeva Leinonen to the Coral Bay Research Station this week. Professor Leinonen was very impressed with the facility and we had positive discussions about the future development of the site.

03.01.2022 Wishing our station manager @Frazer McGregor all the very best today on his significant birthday. Thanks for all the support and hard work you put in for the station and our visitors. Have a great day on the water

02.01.2022 Congratulations to Coral Bay Volunteer Emergency Services - great to have such excellent neighbours!

01.01.2022 Welcome to our new Earthwatch Australia expedition team, for the October "Project Manta Ningaloo Reef" expedition! We're looking forward to working with you over the next week, to help study and conserve the sharks and rays of Ningaloo.

01.01.2022 Very excited to announce a new paper led by Amelia Armstrong, on genetic markers for manta rays. This work has been done as part of Project Manta, which the Research Station is a part of.

01.01.2022 Wow! This would be awesome for our glass-bottomed boat. Solar-powered floating lab ...
