Australia is home to around 800 bird species, almost half of which are endemic that is, they are found nowhere else in the world. They are beautiful and odd, resourceful and innovative. They are also curious, emotional, smart and adaptable. Australian Magpie pays homage to our urban neighbours, the species that call our streets, parks and backyards home. Reminding us that nature co-exists within our immediate environment and exposes the opportunities for us to experience and connect with the world around us - @eggpicnic

16.01.2022 The work of Lyrical Abstract Painter, Gordon Carmichael now hangs in our gallery window at 4 Victoria Street, Lewisham. Born in Melbourne, Australia - Currently works from his Sydney studio. I believe the landscape is part of us, rather than the more common belief that we are part of it. My work is informed by our identity, our origin and inspired by a lifetime interest in astronomy, ecology and the natural word... The paintings invite the viewer into these world/s where biomorphic shapes and abstract life become apparent. For me the creative magic lies within a mixture of experimenting, chance, rules and pouring the creative energy and thought process into something relative and beautiful. The use of a bright joyful pallet with a highly textured application of paint. The paintings are created with no preconceived idea, they happen spontaneously and then direct me through the creative process until finished. This creative process is my meditation, being in the moment with the work, a Zen experience of letting go and being a conduit to the elements that flow through me and manifest as paintings.
