17.01.2022 Chronic Pain And Healing Trauma can be a very arduous experience, and if it isn’t given a holistic care approach then the detrimental effects to health are substantial. It can become habitual to feel the after-effects of it regularly and the crippling sensations, feelings, physical pain and emotional attachments can linger to the point where the body and mind begin to normalise this discomfort. By normalise, I don’t mean that the thought process is one of thinking ‘this is wh...at anyone who has been through what I have, feels like’ but more a matter of accepting that this chronic pain is normal life for you now, and it is never going to feel any different or get any better. Our body can experience the initial onset of trauma in a multitude of ways. It could be from a car accident, a sudden fall or the act of falling and catching yourself, emotional shock, grief from experiencing loss, or even the finality of reaching our physical or emotional breaking point. Regardless of whether the initial onset was one of a physical or emotional nature, the unresolved long-term stress can end up affecting us both psychologically and physically. We all deserve to feel well and cared for, and sometimes in life if you don’t ask for help or take that first leap of faith, then you might miss out on finding the road to wellness. This is why it is so important to seek and receive a very holistic care approach. By looking at the body as a whole and understanding that our physical and mental wellbeing really do go hand in hand, the outcomes will be positive and the path to complete recovery can truly be achieved. Surrounding yourself with the right team who will be transparent in advising a treatment approach. Continual communication by holding you accountable with a treatment plan and self-care recommendations. Lastly, actively striving for sustained and monitored improvements. This guidance gives you the best chance to break the cycle and the stronghold that trauma can take residence within. It is the pursuit of more than a band-aid approach. A way to develop resilience muscles and mental armoury to combat trauma, and finally optimise true recovery and healing.
