21.01.2022 When a name says it all, I’d ‘Luv A Coffee’. Whether it’s the Monday morning pick-me-up or fighting the hump-day afternoon slump, coffee is the go-to caffeination we crave to kick-start our motivation. Finding the perfect blend for our palate is half the battle, that subtle mix of roast and aroma when the ideal balance of beans is found. 20.01.2022 Do you remember the excitement you felt when you heard the ice cream truck roll into your neighbourhood on a summer day? When I first saw Fruitylicious parked up at the Airlie Beach markets, a cute and colourful caravan serving real fruit ice cream, that childhood excitement flooded my interior. I couldn’t help but smile when I saw the amazing choices available. This is a new generation of ice cream. Better tasting and better for you.... Brooke Kirkpatrick discovered real fruit ice cream whilst on holiday and instantly fell in love with the vibrant flavours. A young mother-of-two, she was itching to get back to work and it had been a dream of hers to start her own business. She poured her heart and soul into the project for three months and was ready to launch, right when COVID-19 restrictions came into effect. 11.01.2022 Hungry? Check out Tropical Phoenix Garden Restaurant in Mackay! Growing up in China’s southern Canton region, Ken was already used to a warm, tropical climate. They didn’t have a television, so his first glimpse of Australia was at a movie theatre when he was in High School.... I saw the Great Barrier Reef and I thought it was so beautiful. The movie also showed the sugar cane; how it was set on fire and for the first time I saw the sugar trains and thought how different it was to China. Our region in China grows sugar too but I was used to seeing it being bundled up and hauled over someone’s shoulder, Ken commented. He moved his family to Australia in the 90’s where he worked for one of Sydney’s top Asian restaurants in Chinatown. Showcasing the best flavour from the Orient, the eatery was awarded a prestigious Chef Hat. Ken was one of seven Chefs from Australia selected to go to the United States of America to learn American techniques for Asian cuisine. 09.01.2022 As stewards of our precious marine environment many local charter boat operators have become guardians of the ocean as well as eco tour guides. They are the individuals that know the Whitsunday’s unique ecosystem most intimately and also those that care about its survival most as it is intrinsically linked to their livelihoods. Brent, Kiana's Captain, and its Owners, operate an adventure dive boat that offers overnight trips to the remote reaches of the outer Great Barrier Re...ef. Earlier this year Kiana lost 98% of its business when overseas tourism came to a grinding halt. At this moment it would have been easy to fold and admit defeat, but instead they used the situation to pivot the business model and work with others to actively protect the local marine environment. 03.01.2022 In an industry often overshadowed by big personalities and ego, Russell and Wendy’s approach couldn’t be further from the stigma. The dairy farmers from Victoria fell in love with Mackay while holidaying in the region, so moved across the country in 1988. Their business ventures in the country town of Sarina included owning a pet shop, Sarina Sports and Pets, before Russell was invited to work for a local real estate agent. After busting his Achilles during a game of indoor c...ricket, Wendy stepped into the real estate arena to help her husband while he was immobile. This was the start of their real estate career together in 1993. Less than two years later, they opened Honeycombes Real Estate in 1995 before deciding to change their profile to become First National Real Estate in 1999.
