15.01.2022 Racing today for the Gunnedah Cup, full preview by Neil Evans. Catch all the action on Sky Racing Showcase Gunnedah Cup Day Sunday: May 31, 2020... 1st Race @ 1210pm *Track likely Soft 5 or better & Rail True so expecting on or near the speed pattern before late trend wider (Last meeting on May 18: Good 4; Rail +3m from 1000m to 300m, then True the Remainder) * RACE 1 @ 12.10pm KELAHER INSTRUMENTATION & ELECTRICAL 2YO HCP (1000m) - Min Weight 55kg; 2YOs & apprentices can claim): We start with the babies over the flying sprint trip, and like the value first-up about 2YO Newcastle filly 4. ROMANELLA (Mitchell Bell/Kris Lees, 57kg; likely $7.50 - $8.50) who won only previous run smartly at Gunnedah in good time. Looked forward in a recent trial, and draws to find a handy position. MAIN DANGERS: Big watch on stablemate filly 14. No Laughing Matter (Exosphere x Laughing by Distorted Humor) who debuts off a sound trial. Pt Macquarie filly 2. Crowned Empress also resumes after a one-off debut win at home as a heavily backed favourite, and also sharpened with a recent trial. Expecting sharp improvement second-up from Wauchope filly 1. Slice Of Heaven who was no match behind a promising sprinter in a tougher race at Scone, and will find this company and track way more to her liking despite rising in weight; while watch the betting on another first starter from the Lees stable, colt 5. Triple Ace (Helmet x Sexy Siren by Excites) who won a Gosford trial, although time was only average. Likely Tempo: Strong My Betting Attack: ROMANELLA Each-Way & TRI: 2,4,14/1,2,4,5,14/1,2,4,5,14 *RACE 2 @ 12.45pm MANION DRILLING MAIDEN HCP (1200m) - Min Weight 55kg & apprentices can claim): The top three saddlecloths should have this between them headed by 3YO Wyong gelding 3. RALPHS FOLLY (Kim Waugh/Andrew Gibbons, 58.5kg; likely $3.50 - $3.75) who can break through at third start after closing off late at Kembla when taking a long time to wind up. Wont have to get so far back from inside draw, and just needs clear air from the 400m to run over them. MAIN DANGERS: Consistent local 3YO 1. Danebrook hasnt been far away in three runs to start his career, and will find this easier after finishing on from a wide draw behind a very smart youngster who won in record time on Scone Cup day; while Scone 3YO 2. Pure Fuego rattled home from the back in a strong maiden at that same meeting, gets a kinder draw here, and drops 2.5kg after riders claim. Likely Tempo: Good My Betting Attack: RALPHYS FOLLY to Win & Box TRI: 1,2,3 *RACE 3 @ 1.25pm TAB.COM.AU MAIDEN PLATE (1400m) - Set Weights & apprentices can claim: Keen on progressive 3YO home track gelding 7. MANSENETA (Cody Morgan; Mitchell Bell, 59kg; Likely $3.40 - $3.75) who hit the line hard first-up here, and significantly stays at the trip. MAIN DANGERS: Smart Scone filly 13. Mothers Day has only missed a place once in five starts, and should have already had her maiden in the bag. Charged home to just miss in a strong race on Scone Cup day, and again can settle a few lengths off them and drive into the finish. First run away from home track. Improving 4YO Gosford gelding 6. Little Rocket Man is also bursting to break through after four runs this prep, and draws to get a lovely trail right behind the speed; while stablemate 6YO 5. Jay n Jay has run five placings from 10 starts and been super consistent prior to dropping out after leading at Quirindi over a mile when pulling up with a slow recovery. Been given three weeks to recover, back to more suitable trip, and form rider goes on. Likely Tempo: Moderate to Good My Betting Attack: MANSENETA to Win and TRI: 6,7,13/5,6,7,13/5,6,7,13 *RACE 4 @ 2.04pm RAILWAY HOTEL GUNNEDAH CLASS 1 HCP (1400m) - Min Weight 55kg & apprentices can claim: Local 4YO gelding and former Victorian 2. RONANS ROCK (Cody Morgan/Kyle Wilson-Taylor a2kg, 57kg; Likely $4.00 - $4.20) is way better than his modest record suggests, and steps up to suitable trip after doing his best work late here in first run for six months for new stable. Gets nice weight relief, and blinkers have been applied. MAIN DANGERS: Capable 4YO Newcastle gelding 1. Bandahara must be a threat fourth-up from a better draw, and back to his best distance. Watch the betting on improving Scone 3YO 3. Sir Clooney who can peak third-up from a handy trailing draw. Gulgong 3YO filly 4. Gingers Voice will find this tougher than her last few, but did career away to win her maiden at Dubbo by nearly five lengths two starts back; while home track 4YO 6. Hardyo steps up in grade after finally cracking his maiden here last start, and is hard fit. Likely Tempo: Moderate to Solid My Betting Attack: RONANS ROCK to Win *RACE 5 @ 2.44pm ULTRAFLEET BM 58 HCP (2100m) - Min Weight 55kg; 3YOs & Up & apprentices can claim: Wide open and even battle here for the restricted stayers. Mudgee 5YO gelding 10. THE SCOTSMAN (David J. Smith/Jeff Penza, 55kg; Likely $6.50 - $7.00) hasnt won for a while, but finished close-up in his last few, and drawn to get a lovely trail just off the speed, with senior rider going on. MAIN DANGERS: Liked the way 4YO Armidale mare 5. Nodeel attacked the line in a CL1 over 1900m stepping up from a string of mixed efforts over the mile. At peak fitness now, and the drier the better. Forgiving of 5YO Newcastle gelding 2. Expiredtime who got well back this grade at Quirindi and didnt run on, but prior had won a deeper BM 58 at Muswellbrook over shorter trip, and fitter now fourth-up can hit back. Quirindi 5YO 4. Bulletson follows a similar path, winning narrowly two runs back in weaker grade at Muswellbrook before hitting the line late in that same race at home track. Likely Tempo: Moderate to Fair My Betting Attack: THE SCOTSMAN Each-Way & Boxed TRI: 2,4,5,10 *RACE 6 @ 3.22pm TOOHEYS XXXX GOLD BM 58 HCP (1200m) - Min Weight 55kg & apprentices can claim: Big fan of 4YO local gelding 1. SHAMUSU SHO (Cody Morgan/Kyle Wilson-Taylor a2kg, 62kg; Likely $4.25 - $4.50) who bolted in two straight in dominant fashion at Armidale and Narromine, both times sweeping home from midfield, before working home okay after a tough run in a much stronger Highway at Rosehill. Has to carry the weight back at country level, but should have too big a motor for these. MAIN DANGERS: If progressive 3YO Scone filly 8. Magic Attitude can slot in somewhere and find cover from a wide draw, shell be hard to hold out. Got strung up back in the field before finishing hard second-up at Taree, and blinkers have been added. Lightly raced 4YO stablemate mare 7. A Room Somewhere was brave sticking on well behind a good horse here in first run for seven months, and can improve further. Improving Moree 3YO 3. Liberty Head came off a dominant maiden win to hit the line nicely behind a smart one at Scone despite being unwanted in betting, but up in weight and drawn off the track. Likely Tempo: Solid to Good My Betting Attack: SHAMUSU SHO to Win *RACE 7 @ 3.56pm HOPEFUEL GUNNEDAH CUP (1600m) - Hcp; Min Weight 55kg & apprentices can claim: Feature race of the day over a mile, and there are plenty of chances in a likely wide market. Improving Pt Macquarie 6YO gelding 5. COGLIERE (Marc Quinn/Luke Rolls, 58.5kg; Likely $5.50 - $6.00) will appreciate a drop in quality here after being beaten under a length second-up in a BM 80 at Doomben, and has trialled since. Drawn to get a charmed run right behind the speed. MAIN DANGERS: Consistent Scone 4YO 9. Herzegovina stuck on strong after leading in the Gooree Cup at Mudgee, and draws to dictate again back up to 1600m. Wyong 4YO 11. Holy Reign has ability, and much better suited here third-up after doing it tough under a big weight at Warwick Farm, but will need some luck drawn off the track; while watch the betting on local 5YO gelding 7. Over And Above who was good at a big price second-up in the Tamworth Cup before doing little in the Gooree Cup, but trainer has removed the winkers. Likely Tempo: Fair to Solid My Betting Attack: COGLIERE to Win *RACE 8 @ 4.35pm MPC EARTHMOVING LIGHTNING HCP (1000m) - Min Weight 55kg & apprentices can claim: We close the card with a wide open and good quality sprint. Keen on progressive 6YO Newcastle gelding 12. STAR CROSSED (Phillip Atkins/Grant Buckley, 56.5kg; Likely $7.50 - $8.00) who can peak third-up off a freshen-up, and coming back from two high class BM 70 affairs at Kembla and Warwick Farm. Kept ticking over with a slick trial run. MAIN DANGERS: Mudgee mare 6. Our Dasha resumes off a lengthy break and a quiet trial, but has a smart fresh record. Newcastle 4YO mare 13. Magnolia Power also resumes off a quiet trial, and draws the inside. Wyong 8YO 7. Ever So Natural resumes without a public trial, but gets in light after rookie riders full claim, and took on tougher metro company last prep; while watch the betting on Scone 6YO 9. Tims Principal who hasnt started for nearly a year, and no official trial, but normally comes to hand quickly and was competitive in tougher company last time in. Likely Tempo: Good to Strong My Betting Attack: STAR CROSSED Each Way & TRI: 6,12,13/6,7,9,12,13/6,7,9,12,13 **My BEST BETS R2 3. RALPHS FOLLY R6 1. SHAMUSU SHO **My BEST VALUE R7 5. COGLIERE R8 12.
