24.01.2022 Coordinator-General trip update: Back on the road, we headed to Winton where we caught up with Winton Connect - Winton Shire Mayor (and our Advisory Board memb...er) Gavin Baskett. Gavin and councillors showed us the newly-built facilities at Corfield Racecourse and the double-deck loading ramp at the Winton Sale Yards. Both projects were supported by the Aus Gov Drought Communities Programme. We also got a behind-the-scenes tour of Winton's Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum - a great example of the way Winton Shire is diversifying its economy. Tourism projects like the Age of Dinosaurs Museum draw people to the region and help broaden the local economy to better withstand future challenges, which is why Broadening the economic base is one of the 5 key priorities of our strategy for a prosperous and secure future for N & NW Queensland. 10.01.2022 ' The Corfield Race Club Committee and Members would like to extend their deepest condolences to the friends and family of Bill O'Brien, who passed away on the weekend. Bill was a valued and respected member of the Winton and Corfield districts. He was the creator of all the signage for the Corfield Races and within the buildings at the Corfield Race Track, and also turned his hand to auctioneering when the Monster Auction was first introduced. He was rightl...y proud of the signage that he had created for our Race Club, as we proudly displayed it. It is, in effect, an art gallery of his work, ensuring that his legacy will live on for many years to come. Bill was an important part of the Corfield Race Club team and will be missed.

08.01.2022 C.A.N.C.E.L.L.E.D TWIN HILLS WEEKEND SEPTEMBER It is with great disappointment that the Twin Hills Race Club Inc. and the Twin Hills Rodeo & Show Society Inc. h...ave made the difficult decision not to stage the 2020 Twin Hills Races, Rodeo and Campdraft. The committees have reluctantly agreed to cancel after conceding not to be able to predict the status of Covid-19 and what protocols will be in place by September. The early decision on the fate of the weekend was also made to minimise the effect to stakeholders and the large crowd of enthusiasts that usually attend the weekend. The health and safety of our patrons, competitors, trainers, and jockeys is of paramount importance to us. A special mention and thank you to our valued sponsors. Now it is our turn to back them and support them through, what is and will be, a challenging time. We hope all our patrons stay safe and healthy through this difficult time and we look forward to seeing everyone again at Twin Hills in 2021! See more

08.01.2022 How impressive is this? Kate Deane is 95 years old, blind and still lives independently in her hometown of Longreach, QLD. Her love of the Longreach Jockey C...lub is one reason she’s chosen to stay. Even though I can't see now, I still enjoy the atmosphere and I can hear the horses galloping, she said. In 1986 Kate Deane was elected the first female president of any jockey club in Australia. She’s bucked the trend of moving away from a regional area as she ages. : Watch the full story on Landline this Sunday at 1230 on ABC TV or iview.
