22.01.2022 Good King Wenceslas: a carol that Hugh Grant sings in Love Actually but does not dance to: https://www.youtube.com/watch. It was originally a spring dance tune. 19.01.2022 For COVID safety reasons, St John’s church has opted to postpone their usual People’s Messiah fundraiser. As yet it’s not considered safe to have people singing together as a large group. However we’re hoping for a blockbuster version in 2021: if possible earlier than Christmas 2021! Stay tuned ... (thanks to Arya Chen on Unsplash for the photo)

16.01.2022 Vivaldi wrote many works for the girls chorus and orchestra at the orphanage where he taught violin - the Ospedale della Pieta. In the original score of his Magnificat, he wrote the names of some of the soloists. Some say that this work is even better than his famous Gloria. Book for our Magnificats concert, 29 March at: https://www.trybooking.com/BHYRH

15.01.2022 Looking forward to our concert on Sunday 28 July at Victor Harbor

13.01.2022 Its ironic that Wash me Throughly, by Samuel Sebastian Wesley was planned for our (postponed) Magnificat concert.Wesley was the grandson of the well-known Methodist Charles, but was stalwartly Church of England. Rebellion ran in the family. His father, also Samuel, was a secret Roman Catholic and did not marry his common-law partner. Samuel Sebastian himself rebelled by stubbornly refusing to adopt equal temperament keyboards, despite his second name Sebastian being a homage to Bach. Well contact you when we reschedule - to ensure you are on our mailing list please email: [email protected]. (Photo by Nick Fewings on Unsplash)

12.01.2022 Thanks to our lovely audience today at Newland church Victor Harbor. Hope you enjoyed the tour through English and Italian Renaissance harmony; from mundane to emotional and from religious to secular and back again. Just like the roller coaster politics of the time.

11.01.2022 On behalf of the Corinthian Singers I wish to advise you that due to the present Covid 19 situation and concern for the safety of our valued patrons we have decided to defer the Magnificat concert, Sunday 29 March at 3.00 pm in St Johns Church, to a future date yet to be decided. We will contact everyone who has purchased tickets via Trybooking soon to arrange a refund and I apologise for any inconvenience. This will be a difficult period for the Arts worldwide but we look... forward to presenting this concert of wonderful music when it is deemed safe to do so.
