24.01.2022 Surrogacy in Tasmania Did you know that in Tasmania, the Surrogacy Act (2012) Tas allows a surrogate to carry a child for a couple in certain circumstances? Th...is means that for some people who are unable to have children for various medical or science based reasons, there is an option for becoming a parent. We have advised in a number of surrogacy matters and drafted many Surrogacy Agreements since the legislation came into force and just recently had the pleasure of seeking a Parenting Order for the intended parents following the birth of the child. This means that after a very long journey & legal process, the intended parents will be registered on the birth certificate as the child’s parents, and will carry on parenting as they have since birth occurred. A piece of paper that means so very much. Being involved in a Surrogacy matter is such a rewarding area of law to advise in, and we wish the parents well with their new family.

17.01.2022 You’re possibly overloaded with COVID-19 updates, so just a short update from us. In short, it’s business as (almost) usual. Both our Hobart and Launceston of...fices remain open and fully operational. We are adhering to all advice and recommendations from both the Australian & State Government Departments of Health. We are happy to conduct all client meetings by telephone/electronic communication, there are some exceptions where meeting in person is essential. If you’ve travelled overseas or are not feeling well, please reschedule an appointment or arrange an alternative appointment method (phone/skype/whatsapp, whichever works for you). If regulations change such that we are required to close the office, we have long had a plan in place and all of our solicitors can work externally to continue to advance your matter and provide advice (if this step is required at all).
