25.01.2022 Fundamentals - 6-count with a spin! Explorers - it's a very exciting week for followers! Technique for the follows, while for the leads we will be getting used to the feeling of swivels, then exploring the difference between allowing, encouraging and preventing swivels in a swing-out. Registrations are coming in much earlier this week, so don't leave it to the last minute!

24.01.2022 We've had some really full classes lately and tonight we sadly had to turn some people away who had not registered in advance. Next week's classes are up on the website to book. Register early to avoid disappointment!

24.01.2022 Exciting News! Dancing is now allowed at all indoor venues in Queensland!!! Note that this doesn't allow any increase to venue capacity limits (1 per 2 meters of floor space). So if you got a ticket and cannot make it to the Pocket Dance on Friday night please let us know sooner rather than later so that we can refund you and allocate your place to someone from our lengthy waitlist!

20.01.2022 Followers are wonderful at registering for classes - we have had to close off follow registrations for both tonight's Advanced Balboa and tomorrow's Fundamental Lindy classes. Please do not show up unless you have successfully registered, which means you received an email confirming your registration. We would like to see a few more leads in both classes, please register in advance! We have a few places left for Solo Jazz tonight, we would love to see that fill up :) Remember, if you can't attend a class you have registered for, we are happy to move your registration to a later class or refund you.

I know they have been cooking up some juicy class content together, so jump into our store to book your classes for tonight! https://cornerpocketswing.com.au/store In late 2012, after turning down numerous invitations to give swing dancing a go, Trang invariably took herself out to an end-of-year swing dance event in support of a friend who was making their debut troupe performance that same night and experienced her very first dance class. A measure of fun was had and since that fateful night, Trang has been consistently attending classes, taking workshops with interstate and international instructors, performing in local demo troupes and social dancing at every opportunity. While Trang began her swing dance life learning to dance the role of the Follow, she also quickly became interested in learning to dance the role of the Lead. However, it wasn’t until she competed at her first national swing dance competition event and attended her first interstate dance exchange, that it became clear that leading was her preferred dance role. Trang is committed to pursuing and developing her skills as a Lead first, and is considered to be one of Brisbane’s most ambi-dancerous swing dance personalities. Trang is all about sharing the joy of swing dancing with others, particularly beginners, and is dedicated to supporting and growing the swing dance community in Brisbane.

13.01.2022 We had so much fun last night in our final classes of 2020. We worked on some of the Jewel McGowan and Dean Collins movement from their many movie appearances. We will definitely be doing more of this style in the New Year! Check out this compilation of Jewel and Dean's dancing. 13.01.2022 Tonight (Monday): Lindy Hop with David and Nat at the Danish Club. In Level 1 @6:30 we're going to work on some 6 beat triple step patterns, tuck turns and pass-bys, with some fancy slides at the end. For Level 2, it's going to be Frankie 6's! A classic short sequence of 6 beat moves put together, but with the added extra of variations for both leads and follows to through in whenever they want. See you there!

This was just before the second world war broke out and watching it on a big screen is almost like being there. 01.01.2022 Introducing your Lindy Hop lead teacher at Hamilton tonight - Robert Edwards! Rob has been sharing his love of swing dancing and swing music professionally since 2011. He took his first swing steps in the corner of a social dance floor on his birthday in 2008. His gratitude towards the friend that took him along that night can not be overstated, because that night changed his life. He was instantly hooked and set about doing every class he possibly could. It wasn’t long befor...e he was attending international swing events and performing with the local demo troupe. There has been a lot of kick-ball-changes and stomp-offs under the bridge since those days! Over the years, his passion for all things swing had him out dancing, teaching, or practising most nights of the week. Rob can talk for days about Lindy Hop, Charleston, Solo Vernacular Jazz, and especially Balboa (for which he is one of Australia’s top competitors). For several years he ran the world’s largest solo jazz and hat tricking group called The Keen Gents Collective. Rob’s enthusiasm for dancing is only matched by his love of the infectious dance music of the swing era. Rob has worked hard to build the knowledge and skills that are expected of a world-class swing DJ.
