24.01.2022 Saturday night an Earth Sister and I decided to treat ourselves to dinner and drinks out at Slap and Pickle Low And Slow Smokehouse I've been here quite a few times and am a big fan of the flavours and quality Daithi creates and have been super keen to try the new menu with the change to a smoke house. While we looked over the menu we were treated to some salt, lime and tequila shots. Nice! My friend doesn't drink tequila so I had to drink both to not waste it ;) It was Satu...rday night after all We decided to share a few dishes and we dived into seracha chicken wings with blue cheese sauce. Now I'm not usually a fan of those things (apart from the chicken) and my dinner date suggested that one but I've had lil mini ones here on a group dinner one night and new I would like them As expected... Of course they were good! We ate them like kids and got our hands all messy (photo as proof!) and really enjoyed them. They were monster ones this time. Huge! I personally have been eyeing off the brisket over socials so chose the brisket taco's They also come with pulled pork which was really tempting but the brisket won. Damn! So juicy, so tender, so flavoursome. It even felt light to eat. Very happy with my choice. We also shared some onion rings which I tend to order everywhere I go as I'm a big fan of those and these ones did not disappoint. I washed it all down with two margaritas and my friend had a mojito. Food is top notch. You can taste the passion and love in it. Drinks were great. Staff were lovely and service friendly and welcoming. If you haven't had your pickle slapped you really should by now. 22.01.2022 A few months ago I bought a lil baby cake from Raw Gems This was for an Earth sister of mine who was visiting for her birthday. I think she is one of Raw Gems biggest fans She is lactose intolerant so I thought, what better treat than a little birthday Baby cake just for her I chose chai spiced flavour for her and organised a pick up at a local cafe. Such beautiful and delicate decorating. Not only is this cake dairy free, it's also egg free, refined sugar free and gluten free. Amazing! Such creamy sweet little treats with such a lack of things is not my forte so I thought I'd leave to the experts on this one

21.01.2022 I know I only usually do food reviews but I really love supporting small local business so occasionally I'll tell you about something special. This was food for the soul Last weekend I had the absolute pleasure of having an equine therapy session with the lovely Sarah and her horse Blaze in Yorkeys knob at Heard By The Herd I've heard about this over the years and it always perked an interest with me. I never seeked it out as I'm a little scared of horses to be honest. I ...don't have much experience with them and they are so big, powerful and can really sense how you feel. I came with no expectations and an excited spirit because I was about to bond with a horse. We did some grounding and breathing, envisioning and talking about what naturally "came up" and Blaze and I got to know each other a little. 20.01.2022 Wow! I've just attended my very first workshop with the lovely Kate from Cupkates It was gifted to me by Earth Papa for my birthday and I was so excited when he gave it to me and he also bought me a take home kit I've never worked with fondant before and my own baking has quite a rustic style but I crave to know how to do such detailed decoration. I love mermaids and this Under the sea workshop was so much fun. I learnt so much in just 3.5 hours about fondant, silicon moulds, chocolate moulds, some piping skills and loads of little tips I never knew before. We had an absolutely delicious morning tea in the middle. Kate's melting moments are hands down the best I've ever tasted. Kate is a wonderful teacher. Patient, encouraging and a humble lady. I'm so very glad I went

20.01.2022 Believe it or not, I don't do alot of cooking at home. I bake once in a while but dinners are generally Earth Papa's domain. He's a pretty good cook. I'm a very lucky lady! Once in awhile I like to make a new dish so today I made Chicken and bacon fettuccini with walnut pesto, topped with Parmesan and oven roasted walnuts. 19.01.2022 I made some cupcakes for an Earth sister's birthday a few weeks ago. Thought I'd have another crack at my piping skills that I learnt from a workshop with Cupkates a little while back. Not quite where I want to be but Kate gave me the confidence to try I think my friend was pleased. 18.01.2022 An earth sister and I were thinking of grabbing a couple of beers last Tuesday in the city. That turned into "ooo should we grab a bite to eat?" And then we found ourselves having dinner at Goong Korean & Japanese Restaurant My first meal out since my birthday in March! It's been so long! They are Byo so we brought some Pinot noir with us. Our choice for the night being one of my favourites "Devil's Corner" Corkage is $2.50pp. I haven't had the pleasure of eating alot of ...Korean cuisine and I have wanted to come here for some time. They are Korean/Japanese. My friend had already been there and said the food was great and we weren't disappointed. We shared four dishes. 1)Pork Belly and Kimchi. 2) Squid tentacles 3) Vegetable pancake. I have to say I've never ordered one as I thought they would be boring but it was packed with flavour... Will be ordering Japanese pancakes more often ;) I really can't remember the fourth dish but it was a pork stir fry with delicious flavours. Tasted like there was something extra in the food. Passion and love flavoured Service was really lovely. Our waitress was super friendly. Nice atmosphere and everyone was spaced well apart ;) Definitely will come here again

15.01.2022 I decided to get my Halloween baking on over the weekend for a costume party and made some muffins The spiders are made from freeze dried strawberries with a blueberry for the head. Licorice straps cut up real thin for the legs. Googly eyes and web toppers just from Coles. Love an excuse to get experimental

14.01.2022 Earth Papa and I celebrated our five year anniversary a couple of weeks ago One of my gifts to him were these amazing cookies at Cupkates I was so impressed by these! They were massive! Much bigger than expected and so visually beautiful, dainty and picture perfect Individually wrapped with gorgeous packaging and very tasty too! ;)

13.01.2022 Popped into Holloway's Markets this morning and noticed The Hungry Nomad had a food truck set up. Been following them a little while now so was super keen to try something. I chose the arancini (might have to admit I have an obsession with these risotto balls) The flavour of these ones were Waldorf Salad so they had apple, walnuts, celery served with Parmesan, Balsamic, aioli and blue cheese sauce. I'm not even a fan of blue cheese sauce really and I still wanted to try them as they sounded absolutely delicious. For only $10 you received a serving of three but they were huge. Right up there with the biggest balls I've ever seen! Cooked to order and absolutely divine I'd be very keen to basically try everything else on the menu. Let the stalking begin ;)

13.01.2022 Well I found a new work home baking for Bushman's Pies on Scott Street. The universe answered my prayers and placed me baking in a bakery which is exactly the role I was hoping for and it was a long wait but it was worth it. I have been baking Bushman's products and part of the team for the past two months. The hours are tough (proper baking hours ;) ) the volume is huge and not what I'm used to and I'm learning so much about production. Loving all the knowledge I'm aquiring and being part of a traditional successful Bakery Team. It's been a journey on its own and came with its challenges but I finally found my feet. I've got this ;)

13.01.2022 Had a mid week lunch date with an Earth Sister yesterday at Mondo on the Waterfront I've been hearing on the radio at work that they do a $15 lunch special between Wednesday and Friday which consists of an entree, a main and a glass of wine (or a beer/soft drink) It wasn't a big menu to choose from but for only $15pp there's no complaints from this Mama Two entrees which were chicken wings or a falafel salad. I obviously had the wings going off the photos ;) and there we...re 3 mains to choose from. Two salads and a chicken coconut red curry. The second pic is my friend's shot as I was so hungry I started devouring it before I remembered to take a photo. The wings were nice but the curry was delicious. Perfect portions for a little cheap lunch out too! I had a house sav blanc and it was quite a nice drop. Very big value for money and was really nice on the waterfront. We managed to go when it was sunny for a couple of hours

13.01.2022 I'm quite a fan of My Little Bakehouse Cairns It's only a couple of minutes drive from me and I usually go monthly or so on a Sunday to grab some pies and sausage rolls. (Photos not featured sorry, they get eaten up way too quickly ;) ) I'm always very tempted by the sweets when I do go in though. A couple of weekends ago I couldn't go past a hazelnut latte mousse cup. It was absolutely delicious. I'm a total sucker for hazelnut, mousse and coffee so I had to grab one with my really yummy garlic chicken sausage roll and cheese and bacon pie. Was not disappointed. The cup was even made of edible chocolate. Stop it ;)

13.01.2022 Halloween isn't just for kids! Well, it's for us big kids to have some fun too ;) The adult in me is always too tired at the thought of a costume party... But as the day draws nearer and your pieces come together, the inner devil.... I mean, the inner child starts to get excited to play! 12.01.2022 Went out for dinner with a couple of Earth sisters a few weeks ago. After a recomendation and because I've barely eate any Vietnamese before so I thought I would check out Viet Fresh noodles in town Cutest little place Fast service and absolutely delicious food. My friends had dined here many times when I suggested to go here so I knew we were onto a winner They hand make all their rice noodles every day! We all got our own dishes, aswell as sharing some rice paper r...olls and spring rolls (which came with satay and sweet chilli sauce) I had the pork noodle salad (I didn't feel like soup/pho) which came with this mild chilli sauce which you poured all over it, with fresh veggies and loads of herbs. It actually tasted good for you :p My friends both chose a Pho dish. The one I took a quick pic of was the beef brisket soup. The spoonful I tasted was so rich and hearty Everything was fresh and delicious and service was fast. I'm definitely coming back for Pho next time

Earth Mama Hummingbird cake is available at Bushman's Pies It won first prize at the Cairns show last year did you know ;) I have changed roles recently here and am not baking sausage rolls and pastries in the bakery anymore. Now I'm front of house, serving you with a smile :D Which means I get to bake cakes and things when there's a chance to So if you miss my Hummingbird cake, now's the chance to pop in! Only $5.50 a slice! We are open 6am - 4.30pm Weekdays and 7am - 1.30pm Saturdays!

09.01.2022 Went to a gorgeous ladies brunch last Sunday to Hopscotch Cairns This is absolutely one of my favourite places to dine in Cairns. I definitely do not visit enough. The place has such a crisp and fresh feel to it. Staff are lovely. Meals are on Pointe. Everything is so well made, a fusion of interesting flavours with a gorgeous rustic yet fine dining feel and taste. When the owners of Mama Coco and @NOA come together this is the love child it makes We all ordered our own d...ishes but tasted each other's. I chose the arancini and the Mac and cheese. I'm not really a huge fan of Mac and cheese but I figured this one was going to be worth it. Without a doubt the best Mac and cheese I've ever eaten. Wow! They have beautiful sodas on offer. I chose the strawberry and Thyme. So pretty, crisp and not overly sweet at all. Can vouch also for the gnocci, mussels, halumi fries and calamari. Such beautiful and quality cuisine See more
