23.01.2022 Are You Ready? Like most extraordinary days, this day started like so many others. Life was as it had been for as long as people could remember. For some that meant hope and joy, others faced more mundane tasks, calling it 'Just another day in the office.' And just as every life has its moments, there was some end of life moments as well. Those end of life moments are shared by the living as well as the newly deceased. There is a time for mourning. Which in western socie...ty we try very hard to sanitize and parcel neatly into a short but sincere service and a somber party afterward. Yet grief tarries longer for some souls, and for their sakes, Cemeteries are well-maintained parks with lovely landscapes and they are surrounded with monumental walls. The day seemed so normal. People were departing from the dining room, just in time for a quick clean, to make way for the next group, who were already waiting outside, having finished their service. Dotted through the lawned area were a handful of visitors, dutifully bringing fresh flowers to a loved one's grave. Five rows back from the road, and three graves in from the memorial wall a woman was on bent knees busily wiping the fallen leaves from the brass plate on her father's grave. 19.01.2022 Monkey Jars and Honey Traps Most people are familiar with the term 'Honey Trap'. It is a tactic used by less than ethical groups to control people of influence; particularly men. I recently read of an American Senator caught in a honey trap. A young intern in his office managed to seduce him. Then used his influence to gain access to military secrets. It was later discovered that she was a foreign spy. The case was a typical 'honey trap'. Monkey jars are deliberate and ...even sometimes fraudulent cases, where a person of influence gets caught with their 'hand in the till'. The term comes from a hunting technique used in Africa, to catch monkeys. Jars are partially filled with delicious nuts and secured to large items such as rocks or trees. The monkey discovers the jar and sees what is inside. They place an empty hand into the jar and grab some of the nuts. Now with the nuts firmly gripped in their fisted hand, they cannot get their hand from the jar while holding the nuts. Strangely the monkey will allow itself to be captured rather than releasing its grip on the bounty. During the late 1970's I worked with Australia Customs. 16.01.2022 Obeying God or Man? More and more, in the western world, we see laws being enacted that clearly oppose the laws of God found in the Bible. Where once, in the so-called Christian nations, the laws of the land were based on the Ten Commandments, this is not so today. In earlier decades, Christians in the west have been free to follow their conscience and to freely worship their God, to share and preach His word, to pray for one another, and to live their lives as God intended. ... 08.01.2022 The Day I Reckoned I Was Stupid. Some years ago, I got my 'BIG' truck license. I needed work, and I was taking a break from Ministry. I already had a truck license that would allow me to drive trucks. My old license let me drive trucks up to 28 tons. As long as they did not bend in the middle I was okay. But I decided to get the big one. And then I got a job driving big trucks. The company that hired me had a mass permit, which meant they could overload their big truck...s. So I walk into the office on day one and was handed the keys to a really big overloaded truck, and told where the truck was parked, and where I had to take it. It was a big Kenworth with two fully loaded trailers attached and all up it was 70 tons. Time to act on the knowledge I had been given. Ha!!! The truck I did my license in was an unloaded automatic Volvo, all up it was about 27 tons. I knew what the controls were all for. I knew how to change gears. I knew how to position the truck in the corner. And I knew that I was having a panic attack. 05.01.2022 The Normal Christian Life Walking with Jesus Part 2 Counting on God Over the past three weeks, we have been trying to understand why it is, that we find our...selves still sinning, even though we have been saved. We discovered that there is a conflict inside us as if 2 separate people were inside us. The old me who was a sinner and the new me who wants to be a saint. And it seems that the old sinner is really good at beating up and sidelining the newborn saint. We looked back and discovered that the old sinner was dead. In Christ, he was nailed to the Cross, and the new us was raised with Christ in the resurrection. That until we clearly understood the death and resurrection of Jesus to be both a historical and spiritual truth, we could not grasp hold of it. So 'knowing' was our first balancing arm in walking with Jesus.
