25.01.2022 With an overwhelming demand we have now sold out. We are planning to go into our hives this weekend and extract our allowance the bees have assigned for us. Each extraction is exciting as we wonder what the bees have foraged on over the last 5 weeks. The amazing flavours and colours on each frame can be slightly different of pure sweet bliss. Once extracted we like to settle the honey allowing wax particles to rise to the top leaving a semi clear product ready for sale. We will keep you posted on our progress, once again thank you all for your support!

23.01.2022 Sadly this is why we don’t have honey at the moment. Hopefully spring will bring a better outcome.

23.01.2022 Julie and I had a lovely Breakfast with international Singer Toni Childs this morning at Victoria Point. She’s a big Save the Bees advocate and general environmentalist. She’s dedicating the next few years focusing on educating and show casing the importance Bees in her Tour. She’s very passionate and loved the time we had.

21.01.2022 We would like to take this opportunity to say a special heart felt thank you to all who purchased a jar of Cornubia Gold Honey. We try to showcase the best pure natural honey our area can produce. We are so lucky to live in a little piece of paradise with the best customers leaving lovely messages in the honey box and comments on our page. From all of us at Cornubia Gold Honey wish all our lovely customers a very Merry Christmas and look forward to a better New Year.

20.01.2022 Our first extraction for the season. This is a maintenance extraction to remove old Brood frames to be replaced with fresh new stickies(newer clean honey frames). This encourages the Queen to start laying and boosting the strength of the hive for Spring and Summer. Before anyone asks we won’t have honey to sell just yet. Once the season cranks up we will have more of an idea how supply will go and keep you posted.

19.01.2022 Would have to be the worst year for Bees. Honey stocks are very low, it’s only going to get worse in the coming months.

19.01.2022 Last night we responded to a call out to rescue a small swarm. Nice and easy but I was concerned they might have been residual bees left behind from a previous large swarm. We bagged and tagged them to a new home, hopefully they will settle down to their new surroundings. Tried to find the queen but she’s either very shy or we haven’t been lucky enough and scooped up the residual field bees. We shall see how they progress throughout the week. Big shout out to Sarah for making the call out

19.01.2022 The mesmerising first cut of the cappings. It’s a quick gauge whether the Honey will be thick or runny. We don’t use a hot knife just a double sided serrated knife to remove the cappings.

19.01.2022 Morning all. Just a quick update on how we are travelling with Cornubia Gold Honey Apiary. We purchased two starter hives (Nucs) which consist of 5 frames of bees in late August from Corinne our local Queen Breeder The Bee Lady Apiaries. https://m.facebook.com/thebeelady1/ The challenges we faced we never have experienced before, drought and ultimately the lack of food for the bees. Usually by now we would have two packed Hives with 2 honey Supers (boxes) stacked on top but ...we are struggling to even fill 2 honey frames in one Super. Crikey we need some good rain. We don’t see them as challenges but a great way to learn and overcome. Talking to fellow beekeepers around the local area and the outskirts of brisbane it’s amazing how some are ok but others are in serious trouble. Anyway it will take at least another season to see any honey out of these hives, so enjoy the updates and their progress. Justyn.

19.01.2022 We have just stocked up the Cornubia Honey Box with 1Kg Jars. It’s all we have till our next extraction planned this week. Thanks again for your patience as we get into the swing of things again. Enjoy!

18.01.2022 I decided to enter some of our last batch of honey in this years Mt Gravatt show. Well with our only entry in the whole competition we came first in our class. Well done Cornubia!

18.01.2022 Thank you all for your support . We have just ran out of jars but still have honey. We will Jar up the remaining honey over the weekend and hopefully back for sale by Monday.

13.01.2022 Finally we have extracted from our hives!!!

12.01.2022 Afternoon all, The Honey Box is well stocked ready for the weekend. This latest batch was extracted on the 11th Jan 2021 from our hives located on the property The bees have bee foraging around hitting a lot of gumtrees lately. We see the pink Bloodwood trees are about to burst into flower, bees love it as it’s easy nectar but produces a runny but strong flavoured honey so we shall see what develops in the next extraction. ... We now have a PayID account for those that love to use cashless payments on their morning walks. If there’s anything you want to know about Bees or Honey drop a comment below and hopefully I can answer your question.

11.01.2022 I could watch the front of the hives all day. Seeing what they are bringing back to the hive watching their behaviour and of course a few silly landings.

09.01.2022 Inspected our hives on Wednesday, promising start to Spring and the bees are active. Checking Brood for disease and any signs of trouble, we check how the Queen is going by the way she’s laying her eggs. Are they good solid full frames or patchy? Looking at stores of pollen, number of drone cells and loading the Brood box with honey. As the weather warms up we see the number of pests increase. The never ending battle fighting Small hive Beetle, Wax moth and other predators can take over the hive and destroy it. Many promising reports from Beekeepers around Brisbane it looks like a great season ahead.

09.01.2022 ***UPDATE SOLD OUT*** Thank you for you support, I hope everyone enjoys the honey and will keep you all posted when our honey becomes available possibly September. Thanks again bee safe... In collaboration with Papa John’s Raw Honey I have acquired; 20 x 500g jars of his Cabarita Tea Tree labelled as Bush honey 20 x 500g jars of his Taste of Annerley. This honey has a sweet mango taste. John and I have been beekeeping for approximately the same time and learnt most of our skills from the Bayside Beekeeping Club in Redlands. His honey has won numerous awards including Royal Queensland Show and I highly recommend his raw honey. (Almost as good as mine ) Good Raw Honey is hard to find due to the drought and bush fires. The season has been if not the worst we have seen, so please conserve and enjoy. I will sell these at cost for the Cornubia community so please limit your purchases to two per person. Once sold out that’s it till late September when the spring flow comes on. Price for each jar is $8ea or two jars for $15. Please have the correct amount as change will not be available. I suggest getting one of each to experience the different tastes of each region. All Covid -19 procedures have been adhered to, sterilised the Honey Box and will be cleaned regularly. All jars have been wiped and handled with disposable gloves. But as always wash your hands!! Link to John’s FB page. https://m.facebook.com/papajohnsrawhoney/

09.01.2022 Happy World Bee Day!!

08.01.2022 We will be dusting off the White Honey Box and filling it up with Jars tomorrow morning. Two sizes available 500g and 1kg jars, pricing the Honey has been a big debate with high prices from all Beekeepers. It’s something I find hard to do but prices of jars, labels and Beekeeping equipment have all increased over the last 12months. Pricing will be as follows: 500g Jar $8ea or two for $15 1kg jar $15ea... So please have the correct amount as change is not available. We hope you love our first batch from our Hives located on our property in Cornubia. This region is so rich in floral varieties for the bees to forage on giving our Honey it’s special flavour. Thank you all for the support, we do appreciate it.

07.01.2022 The girls are hitting the Leptospermum Polygalifolium (Jelly Bush) a relative of Manuka (Leptospermum Scoparium). This species has been tested having higher MGO active levels than Manuka.

07.01.2022 On behalf of Cornubia Gold Honey we wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you to our wonderful community for your ongoing support in 2020. It has been a challenging year for all and for the bees. It didn’t look good in the beginning but with good rain in winter it has had a massive impact for the honey flow season. To my amazing wife, helping in the extraction process and putting up with my little hobby. Your patience and sharing my passion to deliver the best honey be...hind the scenes is so appreciated. We would like to wish everyone happiness for the new year ahead.

05.01.2022 Going to get a lot worse

05.01.2022 Results for the Honey Competition at the Ekka Royal Queensland Show has just been published. Awesome result for Cornubia Gold Honey. A First in Light Amber Class and a Second in Novice.

05.01.2022 Just a quick look in the Honey Super. Slow progress still more work to be done.

04.01.2022 Sadly we have to say goodbye to Cornubia Honey for now. We sold our last three hives last weekend to a Beekeeper in Mt Cotton and will be well looked after. From learning about Beekeeping to mentoring others in this amazing hobby it has been a great journey. They are so complex and have their challenges, no one really understands how fragile their well being is and we as a community have a responsibility to look after them. They not only supply us with sweet delicious Honey ...they pollenate flowers and trees that produce a large range of food. With family and work commitments ever increasing my duties as a responsible Beekeeper were diminishing. I have decided to have a break from beekeeping and when the time is right we will look at it again in the near future. Thank you all for you support and allowing me to share the magic Cornubia has to offer. Our area is so unique the bees can forage all year round producing award winning honey. The best part in my opinion was the lovely notes left in the Honey Box, these had a massive impact and I thank you all.

03.01.2022 The Extractor! Our small 4 frame extractor getting a work out today. You can see the Honey hitting the side of the walls as it’s flung out of the frames.

02.01.2022 I love watching this honey.

02.01.2022 Massive day in the Apiary, I would like to share with you a small part of Beekeeping The Extraction. Imagine going into a full hive of 60,000 female bees and I’m about to steal half their food they just spent most of their life gathering. My job is to make sure I remove fully capped frames without tearing or dropping them. Next to remove said angry bees that are hanging on for dear life off the frames. Now off to the extracting room for a fun filled adventure of sticky fi...ngers and dodging a bee that is so triggered her mission is to make sure you pay the ultimate fine! The best part of extraction is taking the first cut of the cappings, this tells us a couple of things 1. Colour and 2. How thick the honey will be. We don’t use a hot knife (which is easier) we just use a serrated knife and a capping scratcher (video to follow). Finally placing the uncapped frames in the extractor to spin out that thick Honey without blowing out the wax frames unbalancing the extractor like a wild washing machine dancing around the room. Once the spin cycle is complete and all frames are done my mission is to return the Stickies (extracted frames) back to the now irate hoard that even the sight of you makes the entire hive roar! Your tired, covered in honey and you are now faced with an event that can only be described as a pack of mentos thrown into a 2L coke bottle. At this stage you’re madly placing the extracted frames back into the hive while the bees are stapling your gloves to your hands. Some days are not that bad as it depends on weather conditions, genetics or the girls have been drinking some funny nectar the night before. You have closed the hives and head back to the extraction room only to find you have to clean up all the tools, the extractor and a mountain of cappings. I love beekeeping

01.01.2022 I’ve been following Mark and his son John for a while watching their light entertainment on beekeeping. This video shows the aftermath of the fires on Kangaroo Island, the resilience residents and bees can have surviving a disaster drum up motivation to move forward and get on with it. https://youtu.be/SBc5uOlLwyI

01.01.2022 Could be a great investment for Cornubia Gold Honey.

01.01.2022 Quick inspection of the hives yesterday, looking good for spring.
