03.01.2022 UPDATED TIMETABLE NEW AT CBR SATURDAY SPARRING!! Sparring is as real as it gets. It is that simple.... Sparring requires you to use every one of your attributes forcing you to sharpen your skills and practice things like the controlling distance, timing, speed, agility and focus as well as cardiovascular and muscle endurance to name just a few. Adds a fitness element. Staying in constant motion, can improve fitness in several ways, it will increase stamina and cardiovascular fitness. It will also help improve balance, by having to make quick, sharp movements then re-centre. Sparring can help develop muscle tone and strength through repeated punching, kicking, and throwing your opponent engages many muscle groups at once. Builds comprehension. When explaining why a certain technique is a certain way or movements must be done in as specific motions, it may confuse when you first explain it. Students want to understand the why’s. They want a reason. When they see that a move works in sparring, or why something does not work when they don’t perform it the way you explained, the puzzle pieces fall into place. Help with Impact Control Getting hit can be jarring but sparring helps students learn how to bounce back. With the supervision of a coach, sparring can quickly help your students deal with being hit and learn how to literally roll with the punches. This physical toughness translates to psychological toughness as well, especially since sparring exists in a safe and controlled space. Any confrontations outside of sparring will seem less harrowing and practicing assists with recovery from disappointment or failure. Sparring will help you develop a greater understanding and application of the following skills: Distance How to control the distance between you and your partner. Rhythm How to break your opponent’s rhythm. Timing How to judge the timing of your opponent and know when to hit Combinations How to land combinations while your partner moves forwards, backwards, sideways and tries to counter Footwork How to move in, out and to the sides to strike or evade a punch. Speed You will learn how to use your speed to hit your opponent before they can block, as well as move quickly out the way of a strike. Balance You will learn to control your balance and centre of gravity while in a fighting motion. Reaction You will improve your reaction times. Focus You will be forced to keep focus and concentrate on the fight without distractions. The second you switch off you will know about it! Cardiovascular Your fitness levels will have to adapt and will improve. Muscular endurance Your endurance and stamina will have to adapt and will improve. Conditioning You will learn to get hit and fake that it doesn’t hurt so you can carry on. Sparring are run every Saturday morning at CBR Adults Supervised Sparring Saturday 7.15am - 8.45am
