23.01.2022 The next time you go to make a purchase think about whether you really need it. Could you get a NEAR new car instead of a new one (and get one of those new car smelling air fresheners instead!)? Fix a pair of leather boots instead of buying brand new ones? 19.01.2022 For some people money and finances dont come easily. The first step is to admit it, before even beginning to think of how to move from A to Z, or at least on to B. If this is you, say it aloud. I dont find this money caper easy. Then, find a solution that can become your own habit, like checking in on your savings balance once a week. Try it now and imagine where youd like it to be. ... Once youve mastered this you can move on to the next, bigger challenge. And that includes asking for help.

18.01.2022 It's come out this week that despite 300 million $100 notes in circulation the big bill is rarely ever seen in Australia. This compared with about half the amount of $5 notes existing that we see regularly. So, where have they all gone? There is speculation $100 notes are being used for tax evasion and other illicit activities. Others say that at least some of the amount might be stashed in houses and even under mattresses! If you might be hoarding some $100 notes, it's impo...rtant to think about inflation and what that means for your cash that isn't earning any interest in the bank or investments. Inflation means $100 cash under your mattress buys you less over time. So, if you were to buy a $100 bag of groceries with that money 5 years ago it'd cost you $100, but now, the same bag would cost you $112 (12% more > an avg annual inflation rate of 2.3%). So you'd actually be able to buy less of the same bag of groceries. It might seem small in that amount, but we've heard stories of people hoarding up to $30,000 or more. That's a lot of cash that isn't earning you any sort of interest in the bank or investments, and is actually worth less when you get around to spending it. Image source: lifehappens.org

14.01.2022 It's not great feeling the burden of unpaid accounts on our shoulders, but you can make the load feel a little lighter. Sort through what you owe and prioritise according to the severity of the consequences that will happen for non-payment or if you miss another scheduled payment. You can potentially save a lot of interest by ordering the repayments to be more in your favour. #debtdomino #lists #getinorder

12.01.2022 Australians couples spend on average over $65,000 on their special day! Four years ago it was $36,000! How much you want to spend on a wedding is just one thing you and your partner should both be clear about. If you, or someone you know, has just got engaged or married, maybe suggest they get some advice before the champagne bottle is emptied. - These days the cost of a wedding can be the same as a house deposit. Are you on the same page with how much the wedding should co...st? How much might each family be contributing? - What are your joint financial goals? Who is in charge of paying the bills, or regularly adding to the savings account? - When married, has everything been changed to reflect your new status and name if required? Its important to get on top of this once the excitement of the wedding has died down. Certificate, passports, licence, accounts, Medicare, tax, the list goes on! - While it can be looked at as morbid, consider wills, insurance and super - especially important if one of you will be taking time out of the workforce if you raise a family. - Do one or both of you have a home loan? You might want to refinance and if so youll need all the documentation including updated existing title deeds. If you apply for a new loan it will need your new name if you have one.

12.01.2022 Many people talk about never finding the time to sit down and take a look at their financial situation. Well we have good news! 2016 is a Leap Year - so a week from today you have a whole extra day to take a moment for yourself! Well, its basically still a normal day in every sense of the word, but see if you can spare an hour or two to write down the things you want to focus on over the next few months. What will you be doing on your extra day of the year? Share what things... you want to work on. Some ideas: getting your tax files in order, setting up a mortgage offset account, checking to see if you have the best interest rates, considering your insurance. #gettingontopoffinances #takingadvantageofleapyear #leapyear #financialfreedom

09.01.2022 Its been nearly 2 months since we all made our New Years Resolutions. How have you fared? - Diet lasted? - Booked an overseas trip? - Cut up those credit cards?... - Started a high interest savings account? - Been to the gym more than once a week? If youre one of the 60 per cent of people who broke their resolutions last year then it might have been because you didnt keep track of your progress, made too many of them, didn't share it, forgot about what you made or it was too unrealistic. Whatever the reason they're not working out so far, remember you can set a goal at any time, not just at the start of the year! Make a new one today! Let us know in the comments below if you do and what it is :) Sharing is part of making it happen! #startnow #backontrack #youreprobtheother40percent

09.01.2022 Oh oh. Its not a great sign days out from Valentines Day. A new survey from Credit Savvy has shown that Aussies are favouring money over love. More than half of people surveyed said theyd consider breaking up with a partner if they knew they werent in a good financial situation. But just how bad a bad sign is it? Thinking about more than just love when it comes to a partner - potentially someone you want to commit to long term - probably isnt a bad thing. ... If you talk about any hidden nasties sooner rather than later at least you are putting your cards out on the table early. And when it comes to getting a mortgage together down the track a partner's sneaky bank account might not hold you back. #whatslovegotodowithit #whatwouldyoudo #behonest

06.01.2022 Do you drink or drive (not together please!)? If you do, the tax man is coming for you. Tax levies on alcohol and petrol go up this week. As The Australian reports, from this week it will now cost 18c more to fill up a 60L tank (though luckily petrol is a lot cheaper at the moment than it has been!). A six-pack of beer will rise by 3c and a 24-pack of ready-to-drinks will go up by 29c. I know it might not seem like much, but every cent counts right? Especially those going ...to the tax man! Keep an eye out on what else might be rising in price around you. #taxwatch #taxmaniscomingforyou #beers Image source: movieweb.com

01.01.2022 Do you feel shut out of the investment property market? Theres a lot of attention on this topic at the moment and its easy to fall victim to the negative hype. New laws from APRA last year mean that you will now need a larger deposit as banks have had to restrict the loan to value ratio (LVR). But, interest rates are the lowest they have been ever. So, for some people it can still be a good time, and a good strategy, to invest in property - especially to increase diversific...ation of your investment portfolio. As always its important to ensure you understand the market and choose the right property and price for your situation, with a view to the long-term. #longterminvestment #propertyproperly #onyourterms #betheCEOofU Image source: news.com
